Never been a fan of the shape or material, but could see trying their other styles for gardening. OTOH I wear Birks all the time to hike, but mine are the more streamlined x shape.

My mother wears the traditional clunky ones inside and outside and I am constantly terrified she's going trip/slip and really hurt herself. It has happened.

I am not a fan of the traditional Croc, but Crocs has made some surprisingly cute sandals. I have a couple of colors of the sandal below - years old now, not sure if they're still available. Very comfortable, light as a feather, and sort of cushy when you walk.

Also, their flip flops are great.

I think you should give them a go. I have some EVA Birkenstock Arizona's that I wear at the beach, doing housework and washing the dog. Having waterproof, comfy summer footwear is useful.

The key is always in the styling - I am sure that Donna absolutely rocks in her white platform crocs and so will you.

I have a pair of fancier crocs that I wear as boat shoes. In many ways, they are excellent for this - I can wear them to get out of the tender, but they also look ok if we go into a bar onshore. BUT, I realised after I bought them that they are not so good for Australian conditions, as they literally melt in the sun. Leave them out in the sunshine, and you will come back to a puddle of plastic *Ask me how I know lol* . I bought a replacement once, but probably won't again...

Given those things I’m a yes, I think it could be fun to try them. Perhaps just be mindful of cleaning them often so they don’t get stained like mine!

If the clog style feels like too much, you could always experiment with their sandals. Also, there's company called Native that makes shoes of a similar material but in more conventionally sneaker-like styles. You could also look at the Birkenstock Essentials line, which are made of easy-care EVA foam and good for beach/pool/garden use.

I know a lot of people who love Crocs for camping/backpacking and for food service and lab/nursing work, but I've never found them comfortable. Like Birks, the footbed has too much contour in not quite the right places for my feet. But they are super practical and can be cute in a quirky way.

I think what makes those looks work is that they are white, or at least have a white sole. And of course deliberate styling. I would be cautious of assuming it will translate into other colours. Black crocs in particular look like work shoes.
I have one of their other non clog sandal styles in white with a blue pattern and the white got pretty dirty and I haven’t been able to get it off (need to try to bleach/baking soda concoctions next). I didn’t wear them in particularly dirty situations, just around the cottage etc which is exactly what I bought them for. So I’d say they stain easily and aren’t all that practical for a plastic shoe. I don’t know if they are the exact same material as the classic clog tho.

Synne, I’m not going to argue with you—I’m just repeating their claim

“Crocs™ introduced an innovative shoe made of a revolutionary material called Croslite™. Croslite™ technology held unique characteristics that allowed it to perform on both land and in water, characteristics new to the footwear industry. The company was given the name Crocs™ after the multi-environment, amphibious nature of Crocodiles.” https://www.crocsaustralia.com.....crocs.html

“ Boedecker shared Seaman's passion for sailing. In 2002 they came across a new boating clog produced by a Canadian Company, Foam Creations, Inc. The Quebec company's closed-cell resin allowed the shoe to be lighter than traditional, rubber-soled boat shoes, and because it molded to the shape of a person's foot it was even less likely to slip on a wet boat deck. In addition, the material absorbed a minimum of odors and the clog design insured that it was well ventilated. While on a sailing trio from Islas, Mexico, to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in May 2002, the two friends discussed improvements on the Foam Creation's design and decided they wanted to market this ideal boat shoe. When they returned home they brought in Hanson and acquired the rights to Foam Creations' manufacturing process through Western Brands.

Seamans tweaked the design of the shoe while Boedecker took over as chief executive officer and lined up a host of small investors. Hanson set up most of the operation and oversaw the running of it. As a name for the shoe they settled on Crocs, an abbreviation of crocodile, because the attributes of the animal fit the product: comfortable both on the land and in the water, strong, and long-living. Because they also wanted to convey a sense of fun, the founders played on the non-slip properties of the shoe to coin a initial marketing tagline: "Get a Grip." This playful attitude would also lead to the various colors in which the clogs were offered.

Early 21st Century Debut

The Crocs clog made its debut in November 2002 at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show with its first model, "The Beach."

I also find crocs very slippery! I think they are banned as scrubs-wear in hospitals and institutions in my country, becouse of how slippery they are (on concrete floors). I had a nasty fall my self many years back, in the dishwasher room of a restaurant I worked at. Haven't worn crocs since. And I don't quite see them as gardering shoes either? Wont dirt and bugs crawl through the holes? To me, Crocs are beach wear, what one would wear as a tourist in the summer on Mallorca I see them being worn alot "ironically" in bright colours to make a statement. They are absolutely statement footwear. I don't think there are many neutral opinions on Crocs

I see the Croc/Birk link cmh is talking about—big clunky shoes, ugly by conventional standards, have become cult faves so now they have their own aura, with people wearing them in “new” ways.

JAileen, weird that your friend slipped in water wearing them. They were originally designed to be boat shoes, with soles that would not slip on wet surfaces, hence the name and crocodile logo; they’re amphibious, like crocs. I guess your friend would tell us that’s a crock, lol.

I don’t have anything original to say, just one more (altered) cliche—if they feel good, you should.

I have very mixed feelings... See, at work they bought us a very well made imitation of Crocs for when we have to change back and forth from lab shoes. I find them really comfortable, right width, right support, sometimes I change into them just because, always use them when I have to do something in production departments, including standing for a very long time. That said, they can reeeeally ruin my look - I look like I am about to do some house tasks. Once a guy asked me what happened to my outfit (I was wearing knee-lenghth dress whith these shoes).
In any case, I guess It depends on the look you are going for. Mine is clearly very mismatched with them. The pics you published show instead very cohesive ensembles IMO. At the end, I am not of much help... It's up to you!

Well to be perfectly honest I do think they are much uglier than Birks, which I don't find ugly. But I have worn them, they are brilliant for the mud and with the right attitude you can absolutely pull them off. Although I don't think they have great traction for all situations as mentioned above.

I like them, but the original croc toe is too slanted for my feet and they don’t seem to make their round toe version anymore. Not the one with the holes. They were good for the bakery and camping. Generally I think they’re for rustic situations, but I’ve seen some fashion forward cyberpunk looks that are cute.

I bought a pair of highlighter green Crocs at a thrift shop for a skit in which I was supposed to dress as on shipboard. They have been helpful to wear doing yard work because I just chuck them into the washer with a few old towels to get off mud and worse. They are super ugly especially because of the color. My usual shoe size is comfortable it look huge. They live by the back door to slip on easily and quickly. I go out with the dog after dark to scare off wildlife like coyotes and raccoons. It may be the Crocs that look scary.

But everyone’s needs for comfort are different. I say if your interested and intrigued, give them a try

Same category as Birkenstocks seems accurate, practical and positive fit aspects for many people, although much too wide for my feet.

Not for me, not because of the look but because of the fabrication.

Personally, I am not a fan of them for myself. I don't like any shoe that straps over my achilles, though.

I have a pair outside the back door for working in the garden. A friend wore hers inside and slipped on some water her dog had spilled, and wrecked her knee. She had to have surgery and was on crutches for a couple months.

I say when going fugly go all out. I asked for and received these platform Crocs for Christmas. They instantly resolved my hip pain and slight PF!!! My toes have Reynaud’s so it’s too cold to wear them outside other than a quick check on my mail delivery. When temps go up I plan to wear them out with the right outfit. It has to balance their bulk and would probably be similar to what others might wear with white dad sneakers.

If you mean Crocs “ classic “ clogs with the perforations , I’ve never been a fan of them for anything other than garden/ yard work . But they are one of those looks that are polarizing anyways . Some people love them and others don’t !

I personally love my Croc clogs, but only as house shoes for when I'm cleaning and stuff, or when I'm at my sister's lakehouse and I need watershoes that are good on slippery surfaces. However, I think they are fairly on trend right now, and so can be worn casually as a bit of a statement! I will admit I find them ugly, but they are what they are, so I enjoy them my way!

I do think the Croc slides are as nice as any other sport slide, if not a little nicer - DD has white ones and I am patiently waiting for her to outgrow them so I can claim them
