100% linen bedding is not for everyone. It can be expensive. It creases a lot of course. I'm ok with the creases and I'm not into ironing. On the expensiveness.... it does last a very long time so it kind of pays for itself eventually. Nice selection here: https://audenhome.com/

OK, my apologies it took me so long to get back to this thread.

Beth, thank you again for linking to that article. WOW, they really did very thorough research. A lot of great information there, and more good suggestions and helpful info in the comments.

Thanks for linking to the ones you have, Traci, and sorry to hear your first set didn’t last very long. And interesting, I’ve always heard that linen holds up the longest, but then again in Beth’s article people do mention that linen quality isn’t what it used to be, so that’s something to keep in mind. I agree with your description on “linen feel”.

Greyscale, what a great idea to use a linen sheet for this! And I hear you on the pricing.

Debora - How very sweet of you, thank you! It’s very helpful, I hadn’t heard of that brand yet.

It’s funny, Belgian linen is often considered the best quality (and me living in Belgium:-) I have been looking at Libeco, a Belgian brand that everyone raves about, but they are pricy (around $400-$450 for a duvet cover).

I thought I’d test out something at a lower price point first and then take it from there, so I bought the Ikea Puderviva duvet cover and fitted sheet. I'd been looking at it for a while, and when I read Liz liked it, I bit the bullit. I’m quite happy with how they feel, perhaps a little more scratchy than I’d imagined, but it actually doesn’t really bother me. The one thing I notice though is lint all over the bedroom. I washed the set before first use, and have washed again once, but the lint keeps coming. I did see someone in Beth’s article mentioning that she had experienced the same thing, but that it got better after several months of use. So we’ll see.

Thank you again so much everyone, this is very helpful. And don’t hesitate to continue to add your thoughts and suggestions.

I have a linen sheet as a top layer over my blankets to protect the blankets from the cat's hair, claws, and occasional bathroom mistakes. I needed something I could wash frequently, and I thought linen would look nicer than a regular cotton sheet. So, it's not against my skin, but I've been very impressed by the texture and it's stood up well to washing so far (only two washes in). I might consider linen sheets for general use, even though the price is a disincentive.

I converted to linen sheets over a year ago and I don't know if I can ever go back. They feel so good on your skin.

My first set were from West Elm. They were light and thin and soft and delightful and the fitted sheet split after about 6 months. I went online and bought a replacement fitted sheet of a heavier weight that cost almost as much as the whole WE set. We upgraded our master bedroom bed to a king, so I bought a new set off amazon. I researched and found a much higher quality heftier set this time. They are much sturdier, but also rougher which I don't mind. I don't think linen holds up as long as cotton. This is the set we have now. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....#038;psc=1

One thing I found very interesting is the linen feels very different when you put your body in it than it does when you just rub your hand across it. The roughness and wrinkles your hands feel seem softer and more enveloping when you slip into them. I can't explain it, but sliding into a bed with linen sheets is a pretty remarkable feeling.

I recently got a backup set of linen blend sheets at Target for about 20% of the cost of a 100% linen set. I'm not sure my husband can tell the difference. The blend is pretty nice, but not the full experience.

Love your duvet, and I might pick up a set in green next time I'm at the store.
Cindy - I bet linen sheets will be wonderful for your hot Texas weather.

I need new sheets desperately and I'm thinking of springing for linen sheets. Texas is hot, and DH runs hot, so anything to help him feel cool at night would be wonderful. Thank you for sharing your experience with linen sheets, ladies. It makes me more confident in my choice to look for linen sheets.

We have a very nice 100% linen duvet/pillow set from Ikea and I must say I prefer them to cotton in the humid Dutch summer.

They wash fine and are holding up very well after a year or so in rotation with a couple of other sets. As far as I know they don't do regular bedsheets though.

I was hoping you would chime in, texstyle, Thanks so much!
Your sheets sound amazing. And yes, the price is the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I was nodding along with what you wrote: why not spend a bit more on a quality item that you use all the time.
I just had a look on the Garnet Hill website: did you get the Eileen Fisher linen sheets?

Mine feel great - I think they breathe better than the cotton ones I was using (those were a tight weave, the linen has a slightly larger weave I think).

I got mine from Garnet Hill. LOVE them so much. They were incredibly soft the first time we used them (machine wash and tumble dry) - so I'm not sure they could get much softer! We loved them so much we ordered a second set. They are expensive but you spend what 8 hours or more a night on your sheets, right?

Hi everyone,

Reading texstyle's comment about loving her linen sheets on Laura's thread made me remember I've been meaning to ask about linen bedding. I'm thinking of switching to 100% linen duvet covers (+ fitted sheets + pillowcases) and would love to hear about your experiences.

I'm perfectly OK with the crease factor :-)

Was wondering about things like:
- Does linen bedding really get softer with each wash?
- Do you tumble-dry your linen sheets?
- How do they hold up over time?
- Which are your favourite brands/stores for quality linen bedding?

Thanks!-)
