My worst wardrobe day as my first day in court as an attorney. It was an UNSEASONABLY WARM March day with POURING rain. I had a suit but I did not have an appropriate overcoat to wear considering the weather. I had assumed I would wear my winter coat but it was too warm and I couldn't go without a coat due to the rain. I did rectify this situation with a long H&M fall/spring weight coat almost immediately thereafter.

Nothing like yours! I am drawing a complete blank. I think this means I have very run-of-the-mill days. Office days. Meeting days. Conference days. Field days.

I must say, I feel amazingly well prepared. A couple of years or so ago, tho, there was the flamenco shindig I had to dress for. I'm sorta more geared for fine dining and the opera and gritty clubs. So that took some pondering, but my closet was up to it. However, I realised I had nothing, just nothing, to wear to go clubbing along the disco line of things. No cheap-but-not-easy outfits. I rectified that

Gosh Annabelle that is a full on day!! I do not know what I would wear.

i also have attended camping weddings!! Non iron fabrics are definitely your friend.

I did have one day recently going straight from a tangi ( Maori funeral, including standing graveside in the pouring rain, and wearing culturally appropriate and practical clothes, to heading directly to open an Art Exhibition and giving a speech.... I ended up with a black blazer, knit merino tunic, black ponta leggings and flat black moto boots, and adding a necklace at the last minute, and washing mud off the boots!

Angie, time for a hauling bags of trash after dealing with HR issues capsule!

This thread has me chuckling. So good to see a real dose of reality.

The best I can come up with is in my first summer dating dh, he invited me to a friends wedding. We camped. So I had to dress for the wedding in a tent, with no iron, mirror, etc. All good! Although I'm not sure i was very impressed when the idea first came up...

Wow, that is a tall order for the day. I don't envy either task, but I think it will serve you well. My tallest wardrobe order would be finding dressy enough shoes for a formal event that don't make me feel like I'm crippled after 10 minutes. I have a very painful bunion and am avoiding the surgery to fix it!

Waving to my fellow Coloradans! Layers and walkable shoes are our friends. Always keep a rain jacket or umbrella in your bag. My life is pretty boring compared to Jenn, Elly, and Annabelle's, though. The most I've had to think about versatile clothing lately was when I worked a 1/2 day at my desk job and went to my son's baseball tournament from there. A casual skirt, striped tee, and sandals (with a denim jacket for the cold office) did the trick.

I had to dress for the wake of my grandfather, an avid hunter and prospector, while also be ready to go moose hunting via snowmobile in -20C weather. Draped waterfall cashmere cardigan flapping in the wind for the win.

Luckily my day to day is a bit more predictable

As a fellow Coloradan, I have to take Elly's rules to heart. I was just complaining to Aida on another thread about needing to be equipped to stop for a hike on the way to a social event.

Annabelle, this Easter I had to come up with an outfit suitable both for Easter dinner at the in-laws' and for the decent chance we might want to play a round of disc golf after.

Sorry to hear about your icky day. Gosh-- I honestly think that one of the reasons that I have such a hard time shopping is that MOST of my days involve some impossible combo of tasks. On any day I can end up carrying 50+ pounds of mining drill steels up 4 flights of stairs, spend 2 hours on a ladder, AND be the person a donor looking to give our organization $100,000 worth of art speaks to-- and that is just at work. Add 1.5 hour commute, dog walks, walks for coffee, a SO that dresses exactly the same for grocery shopping and dates, and snow shoveling and things get crazy. One thing about living in CO, I think, is that people expect you to be ready to go on an adventure or handle anything at a moment's notice because so many people wear gear at all times and you never know what the weather will throw you. Beyond that, I've been dressed for gallery openings and have had to move broken concrete before I go.

My rule of thumbs are:
Embrace denim
Don't own uncomfortable shoes (secure flats and low heels for the win)
pick durable fabrics
leather and nylon are your friends
everything should be washable or wipeable
flexibility is your friend-- not being able to kneel or squat in a skirt or dress is a deal breaker, as are snug shoulders in jackets and blouses
layers are good--- being able to take off a blouse and wear the tank underneath or add a "in the car" fleece has saved many outfits

Many of us know our standby interview outfit, date night outfit and appearing in court outfit.

Today I had to pull together an outfit in which I felt comfortable both (1) reprimanding the boss of and possibly terminating an employee who'd wielded a knife on someone, and (2) hauling bags and bags of trash to an icky dumpster.

I have a small wardrobe, and I ended up choosing a tidy, collared dark but relatable color washable cotton top for credibility, with hacked blue denim, and functional shoes.

What is the wildest outfit demand your wardrobe has gotten you through?
