I honestly have NO idea. I purchased a lot of new summer things last year (remember my mock competition with Suz?) and this year I seemed to forget, and did it again... maybe in a desperate attempt to bring summer here after a VERY snowy winter. So I'm lucky if my clothes have become a Player, let alone Most Valuable! Yes, I still have several tops with tags on. And I'm on vacation next week... and aren't' included in my "hot and sweaty capsule" that will be going away with me.

I'm sensing a wardrobe goal for next summer....

Mine has definitely been neutral linen tops and my cotton ikat print shorts from Loft. And a couple of cotton dresses from JCrew and Gap. That probably comprises 25% of my summer wardrobe. I guess the theme is natural fibers? Lots of repeats this year but they are all comfy and look good in the heat, so I'm really happy with them.

My MVP is most definitely my faux-birks from Kohls (I have brown ones). I have worn them with everything, and they're so comfy. I was thrilled to see them come back as I loved them in the 90s too!

My MVPs for summer are linen shorts from Pointe Zero (several years old), black slouch pants from Billabong that I bought in Florida this year and black linen wide legged pants from Louije Bean (several years old).

I don't have a picture of the linen shorts. They are about 8 inches above the knee and have a drawstring. Loose and baggy. Very comfy. I saw a dark blue pair recently that I think I might buy.

My MVP is coral tops! I bought a couple of short-sleeved T-shirts and a tank top in coral, and have worn them obsessively all summer. I'm especially loving them paired with white bottoms and turquoise-colored jewelry.

Coral has such a warm, tropical color pop, and I'm discovering it goes well with a lot of other colors - denim blues, olive, white, turquoise / aqua, khaki, brown, gray, taupe - as far as mixability, coral is almost a "neutral" in my wardrobe.

It is good to see these threads. I also remember Staysfit in those sheaths; stunners!

Carla, that bike tee is perfect for you! I would like something similar. I am yet to see it though.

My MVP for our winter has been my pewter sneaker boots. They do have ALGO (a lot going on) but I have worn them 2-3 times a week. They are fun and lift a simple outfit. My blush sweater has also been a pleasant surprise- I have enjoyed wearing it a lot although it is not a colour I expected to suit me.

Cheryle I asked my husband and he said it is definitely used in Australia, though mostly in sports that come from the US - eg Basketball. For Australian Rules Football and Netball they tend to use "fairest and best" - which is a phrase I'm certainly familiar with.

I'm enjoying seeing this thread - always good to see ahead of our Australian summer.

Stayfit I'm particularly glad that your patterned sheath dress has been a winner because I loved it so much on you when you first showed it.

I will have to think about this. Our summer is mild so I don't dress that differently. I just picked up two pairs of shorts to replace older ones that I purged earlier. I would say my BR tees have gotten a lot of use. I find myself reaching for the fluid fits this year over the more fitted tees I favored in previous seasons.

A pleasant surprise were my Fly London Yesks. I loved them so much I Purchased two more in different colors which are in regular rotation.

Next on my list are two dresses. The first is a Current Elliot shirt dress. It's soft and fits perfectly, The second, a BCBG fit and flare dress, is the only version of this silhouette I have ever loved for myself.

I would include the 3 Current Elliot muscle tees, which I love because they are substantial and they fit well. I have grey, white, and an interesting navy/white pattern. I wear them almost exclusively on weekends with casual skirts or shorts.

Finally, my list includes the two sheath dresses I purchased, along with the long cardigan sweater I love to wear in air conditioning.

Silky shorts and skirts were winners for me this summer. Light and breezy feel but a more dressed up look than my standard cotton shorts. The BR skirt is much longer on me than in the photo. The maxi skirt was a wild card for me. I didn't think it would work on someone my height, but I ended up loving it.
I agree with Suz - Loft was great for me this year.

This summer has been cold and I have stuck close to home much more than normal. But when I go somewhere, it's almost always been one of these two dresses. Weird, since I haven't worn dresses since maybe 3rd grade, but I'm getting lots of wear from them. I haven't had my white jeans out once yet and that was all I wore last summer. Mostly I wear them with these gearish sandals, an accommodation to practicality since we walk around our little town on gravel roads.

Two new pair of Arizona birks - black leather and suede taupe. My feet love birks and I like the hefty appearance of them. Those Zella capris have only been in my closet a couple of weeks but they have been worn several times already - so light!

I'm on my iPad so I don't have a find for the black birks.

I have worn my white jeans more than most of my wardrobe this summer. I find my striped VC tube skirt is still among my most worn items for the second year (maybe third). Last would be the pewter sandals that I bought last year.

It's fun to see these MVPs! Mine turned out be the pale gray slim straight Resolution jeans from the Gap, and several things that played well with them: a dreamy cotton gauze oversized shirt brushed with gray; a pair of Born spectator brogues in light gray and ivory; an old raspberry linen oversized pullover with patch pockets; some old cream cotton loose trousers; and cardigans--a slouchy new raspberry pink one, and an old orphan gray waterfall front. The soft gray, cream, and pink palette seemed just right for our cool, misty early Summer, and then cool and comfortable for the recent hotter weather. Many of the things will work for months to come, and I will add pale cashmere, silk and leather to the mix, too.

Anne-- Most Valuable Player, wardrobe stars/workhorses!

My surprise was the graphic tee pictured below-- I bought it for weekend use, but I get a surprising number of compliments on it and it makes a casual appearance almost every week. Another is the stripe tunic tee-- a rayon piece (about the time I'd sworn off rayon) that is holding up well and providing another silhouette, especially when combined with the navy sweater pictured for use in the AC. The sweater will be retired at the end of the season, but I'd like to replace it with something similar. It reminds me of how much I like the longer look- even over bootcuts which could be a new direction for me this fall.

My BF shorts and slouchy skinnies both rung in a second season as major workhorses. The rolled hems, loose comfortable styles and strategic fading all say summer to me. I'd love a pair of BF jeans.

The black chiffon top rings in at 5 seasons as a favorite. It is starting to feel and look a bit tired, but might have one more summer in it (and has inspired experimentation with non-cotton fabric and sleeve styles).

My red sneakers are by far my favorite and this will be their last season (and are no longer available). They do remind me how important colored shoes are to my style-- I have a special soft spot for red.

Weirdly enough-- I'm doing more shopping at the end of the season than I accomplished at the beginning but will limit myself to items that are HEWIs and fairly disposable articles, like tees.

Anne, an "MVP" is a "most valuable player."

Carla, those are fantastic items -- and I can see why they are MVPs -- they would be in my closet, too. First off, patterned shoes are a surprise super win, in my books -- esp. for those of us with modern classic closets and a preference for solids and stripes. They inject some fun and "trend" without going overboard. I wear my patterned footwear a LOT.

(And I love my leopard print sneakers, too).

Ditto the pretty shell and floral skirt -- they are just unexpected enough to add something special to your closet.

And the bicycle tee is just plain fab!!

My MVPs this season: blue and white tee from Loft, old white shorts (so what else is new?), the new dress from Loft, the gingham shirt from Loft. Actually, my Loft buys were pretty much my only summer additions (not counting footwear and a few spring items) and they were in heavy rotation.

ETA -- do you have a Find for the pointy toe sneakers? Love them.

What is an MVP? I have searched on the forum and seen we have been using this for years, and I must have missed it!

I have taken to wearing dresses over short leggings, which has brought new life into my dress collection. I need to take some pictures!

A quick appreciation of summer trends is in order before jumping into fab fall fashion.

This year I picked up a pair of slip on sneaks as a replacement for last year's Birks wannabes (worn into the ground by the end of last summer.) Then I bought another pair, and then another! (See #1) Super comfy. Worn over, and over and over. Loved this trend for the summer, and I see wearing the pointy toe version with flare jeans when the weather turns colder. They will be good as house shoes in the winter, and hopefully will last to go with me when I escape someplace warm in late winter.

The bicycle signiture T (Joe Fresh from the grocery store!) was another favourite that has been in heavy rotation. (#2)

And from the navy capsule, the floral scuba skirt and the navy windowpane top. I reached for these items frequently, mixing and matching them successfully with different items from my wardrobe with a consistent high happiness factor. (Below #3 a rare picture of them worn together.)

What were your summer MVPs? Any surprises from the trends?
