When I was a kid it was pandas, though mostly stuffed animals, and then later ancient Egyptian stuff. I don't really have a motif as such now, though I do like jewelry with rock art motifs on it (since that's my specialty!).

Dragons! I have liked them since I was a kid. I am just very, very picky about them as I want them to be "cool". I bought an orginal dragon painting from an artist in Poland. And I have a few unique figurines (only dust catchers in the house). The only clothing I have is a sterling silver necklace made by a silversmith in California.

I really like that bicycle belt!

I've never thought of dressing with a motif, but years ago I did try and start to wear something red everyday...so I had a red purse, red shirt, etc. (not all at once tho) More of a signature than a motif, I guess.

Sadly, this idea sort of petered out after I had children :(

Could that coffee foam bicycle be real?

Motifs - quite a number over the years: Flying pigs, lambs (the hebrew meaning of my name), corgis (like my mutt Lilypup), owls (school mascot), umbrellas/parasols (my archetype), ladybugs (my totem), sugar skulls (my neighborhood insignia)...

In terms of clothing and such - I had an owl sweater (moths got it), umbrella and lady bug earrings... oh and a skull and thistle scarf (I guess I can add a thistle motif for my Scottish grandma... ;))

I don't remember wearing prints in my 20's, though I think I may have worn bright florals on a black base then.

This time around (in my 30's), my current motif is abstract "water-like" prints or graphically "worn" elements. Still in high contrast, of course!

I don't think I have one. I do like trees/vines/leaves motifs (in addition to the typical floral), but I wouldn't call that a signature motif. I always liked plaid/checks and stripes, but that doesn't cound as a motif I think. As a child I did like sheep and I had (still have!) a Shaun the Sheep handbag. I loved Wallace and Gromit.

Mine is actually pigs! They've been my favorite animal ever since I was a kid. They don't really make much in the way of non-kitschy clothes with pigs on them, so clothing-wise I really only have them on things like socks and t-shirts. But I have lots of piggy things around the house -- kitchen tools, mini pig figurines I find while traveling, stuff like that.

What a fun post and to read about all of these. I love the bicycle theme.
I am a sucker for a lobster anything. It's obviously very preppy, but also has meaning to me and my family as our Christmas Eve traditional dinner and growing up in New England Lobster was always the Celebration meal. I could (and probably should) make a book of photos of everyone in our family plunging one to its end in a big pot of water (sorry if this offends, if it helps they were all quite delicious)
I admit I keep it mostly to the kids' clothing, but am always on the hunt - I'm tempted by this at the moment.
http://factory.jcrew.com/women...../48693.jsp

I like paisleys, florals, chevrons, kitty prints, perfume bottles, animal prints and some tweeds, plaids, and stripes( I can be very fussy about the last three) . There are other motifs I like and may end up getting more of down the road but two definitely NEVER ever EVER ones would be monkey prints of any kind and Precious Moments. If I'm ever seen in either of those things you Know one of three things has happened
1. It is me and I'm in dire need of medical attention ( stroke, dementia, lost a bet?)
2. I've been kidnapped ,replaced a la some action movie theme The Net?
3. There are pod people and Earth is being invaded! Run ! Save yourselves!

Interesting! I don't think I have a signature motif, but I am really drawn to fleurs de lis. I just put three embroidered ones on the back of a pair of pants I made (on a patch that serves as an oversized belt loop--an idea I copied from a RTW pair I have). I really liked the skeleton key trend a few years back, too, and I have a long necklace with one on it. Come to think of it, I have a multi-charm pendant necklace that has both a skeleton key and a fleur de lis on it!

Fun question!

Speaking of dragons, they were a thing for DH for a long time (we are each a Year of the Dragon), but right now he's not doing a lot of motif-y wear. I have added a jade dragon pendant recently, though.

@MuseumGal, I discovered that I love paisley too (after being averse to it as a kid) and have enjoyed adding it to my wardrobe over the last few years. And I really like Mod as well.

But the closest to a motif that I have right now, probably, is in the "ancient Egyptian" theme (*points at avatar*). Of course, this shows up mainly in jewelry. And has been a lifelong interest. (Also, it turns out that my first name is actually from the ancient Egyptian for the very flower in my avatar. Ironic perhaps for someone who's not really into florals? :))

However, I have added a couple of forest-themed items lately...I wonder if that will become a thing?

Such an interesting topic! I don't really wear a lot of prints but if I had to choose a motif it would be palm trees, for my love of the beach. I have a small pendant with tiny diamonds and another larger pendant but no clothing. Though I was tempted by a clutch I recently saw in a magazine that had a photographic print of palms.

I used to have paisley everything, but then I purged nearly all of it - and am kicking myself for it! So I'm slowly trying to bring paisley back into the fold in a meaningful manner, because I do love it. The other thing I have a lot of is skeletons. Not the pirate or jolly roger type, nor the biker look, but anatomically correct skeletons and skulls. Because I'm actually an osteologist, I'm very very picky about my skeletons, but a surprising amount of stuff has passed all of my criteria - in addition to jewelry, I've got bowls, glasses, a shower curtain, watch, and other sundry items with some sort of skeleton motif. It's definitely a signature for me.

I've collected a lot of pieces that have anatomy-related things on them -- not so much the traditional skull-and-crossbones (although I do have a couple of those) but more like prints with anatomical skeletons or body parts, like anatomical hearts. I get a lot of stuff from this local company that silkscreens weird things onto their clothing, often related to biology/science/math. Right up my alley! I also really like owls. I have a few things with owls printed on. I have lots of owls and anatomy-related things around my house, too. Bones fascinate me.

As a kid/teen for me it was a rabbit, although I didn't actually have that many items with a rabbit on them, I drew them all the time. My sister was the same way about tree-frogs.

Now when I look at my clothing, I'd have to say it's 'things with wings' butterflies, moths, winged beetles, birds, a winged rabbit etc.

gosh, never thought about a signature motif. i've been drawn to butterflies since i was a kid. and i do own a tee shirt, maybe 2, with butterflies on them. and i have a really nice blown glass paperweight in a butterfly. but thats it. maybe i should take this to the next level.

for a while in my 20's I had smiley face everything. Watch, earrings, shirt, socks, bra even. I suppose it embodied my be happy mind set.
I also collected frogs, but not to wear. Figurines and plush toys, etc. The bathmat downstairs in Tahoe is still a frog

Leopardluxe's recent beetle post, and the popularity of a recent cat print shirt has got me pondering the idea of a signature motif.

When much, much younger (teen) I liked pig motifs, in my 30's I developed a love of a tree motif. Recently I've been drawn to the bicycle motif, and bought my first T with bicycles on it. Eldest DS has adopted the giraffe motif (started with his first stuffed animal, and now on several T-shirts.) Youngest DS has adopted the bear as his motif. My mother gravitates towards anything with a swan on it.

Do you have a signature motif? And what does it mean to you?
