Mine is folded in a suitcase and stored in the basement. It's the only wedding dress I tried on - I saw it on the cover of Modern Bride, found a boutique that sold it, and the rest is history. It's a mermaid style with a flounce at the hem and huge pouffy sleeves (1989 style pouffy). I had a huge pouffy veil and long gloves to go with it!

I want to take the beaded bodice of mine and have it made into a top. That would presume I could fit into it again. It's a beaded halter affair that was perfect for a beach wedding, I can see (in my rich fantasy life) wearing the top with black cigarette pants to a fancy dinner with DH. For now it's hanging in a closet in our city apartment (I think).

I kept my first (big fluffy) one until I was divorced, then donated it. The second one was a fairly casual white lace blouse and midi skirt, and I actually wore it a couple of times after the wedding. It, too, was donated after the divorce.

Still hanging in the closet. I actually tried it on a few years ago and it was too big. I had gained a lot of weight at my wedding and barely could it into my dress. LOL!! I"m thinking of keeping the lace overcoat and dying it black.

White lacy confections are not at all my style and it never made sense to me to spend a lot on a dress that I would only wear once then not know what to do with. Our wedding was casual, and I chose long colorful sleeveless sheath dress for $69 at Coldwater Creek.

Nine years later I still wear it as a summer dress. My 'veil' was a small piece of white tule I wore in my hair that I folded up and store with the cards we received.

I've only been a bridesmaid once, in a homemade red velvet dress that has since been repurposed as the velvet lining for a french horn case.

I paid a small fortune to preserve mine and it's in my off season clothing storage closet. It was silk but looking back I think it was slightly short for me (I was worried about dragging it on the beach and I bought it off the sample rack) so I'm pretty sure even if DD wants it it will be way too short for her. I did get to wear mine twice since we got married on the beach (Hawaii too Thistle!) and then had a reception at home. I also have the white eyelet sheath I wore to the brunch after wedding and my Lao wedding ensemble hanging up in the same closet. Those might be useable by DD and I don't have space issues. My shoes were nothing special (beaded flip flops for the beach and silk mules for the other evens) and I"m not 100% sure I still have those. I have lovely photographs and memories so if I donate it I'm fine.

I've had two. My second dress I donated a while ago. It was an inexpensive summer maxi from Banana Republic. It was white with a soft grey pattern. I really liked it, actually -- but felt no pang at donating!

My first dress was my mother's and I still have it. It is 64 years old now! I wore it and loved it and maybe my daughter will wear it in time. It's now ivory (as it was when I got married, too) but it's still in good shape. I don't do anything special with it. It's all folded up in a blanket box in our living room. But it's a very simple dress. Plain satin with a mandarin collar and a lot of buttons. Sort of medieval looking.

Mine was a day length silk dress that I always hated. Found it a year or two ago and donated it. But somewhere I have my mom's from over 60 years ago. She didn't offer it to me when I married; she thought my DH wasn't good enough for me even though he has always bended backwards for her. Dunno if DD would be interested in dress assuming she gets married somewhere down the line. She is shorter and probably smaller than my mom was, so it should fit with alterations.

I actually took mine apart earlier this year (married in 1990). I am planning on making earrings from the lace for my DD at her request and a christening gown for the future if I ever have grandkids. Also, trying to see if I can transfer an image to the satin, a photo from our wedding and one I hope to take next year after our 25th anniversary and frame it.

Never married ,but I have a bridesmaids dress from my brother's first wedding. Not sure what to do with it ,especially since it didn't work out. Donation? Sell it? Refashion it into fun costumes for his fiancée's first grade daughter? ( I suspect I could make a Cinderella gown and a Princess Jasmine outfit for the kid - the dress is a size 22 after all) I just don't know if it would be recognizable / bring up bad memories for my brother. But the CPW for that bridesmaid dress is $ 180 for one wear -Ouch!

Sylvie- that is so practical of Indian fashion. And the few Indian wedding dresses I have seen when I was over at our Indian office made me think they were beyond stunning. The colors, the elegant drape of the silks, the soft shush of the silk when the women walked. So pretty!

I got married 37 years ago and my dress has been in the dry cleaners box ever since. I have no daughters to pass it on to, not that it is in sync with today's styles, but I can't get rid of it. (It would still fit, too...might even be big.) I got married in an era of not great bridal fashion, 1977, and I just happened to see my dress in a brides magazine, called Priscilla of Boston to see if they had it in stock, and drove to Boston and bought it first chance I got. Only one I tried on. I still love it.

Thistle - I like the idea of having it made into dresses for your DD's. Maybe for a special occasion like Easter or a family member's wedding, professional pictures or just for dress-up. I wore my sister's wedding dress so what to do with it is her problem!

Cary, that's funny. Last year my sister gave me her last "wedding" dress (she's been married four times) -- a pretty blue/turquoise patterned sheath. She's not emotionally attached to it at all, and it's too small for her now, but it fits me perfectly!
