Stacey and Anne:
Thanks for the tips re the "sightseeing shoes". Too bad we don't have Zappos in Canada. Sigh. Will look for this brand you mentioned.

Nice to know I am not alone out there re my feet. Also not alone not being able to find basics that work.

I have two ongoing wardrobe holes:

* Summer dresses (for work or play) that cover enough but are still cool on very hot days
* Perfect layering tees

*sigh* such simple requests....and so impossible to find!

Blue jeans. Funny for the gal who used to have dozens of pairs. Now it seems I do not have one single just right fitting pair. I have one too snug, one too low of a rise, one with blingy pockets and one that gives me slight pancake butt. I did just buy a BF pair off Denise, but have not put them through the paces at work to know how the fit will be at the end of the day.

I have figured it out: shirts to go under my scoop neck sweaters. I can't remember how I used to wear them (maybe I wore turtlenecks more?), but it's not working for me right now. No matter what my mother says.

Mia, try the Ahnu Janie. I have feet like yours, and I've been very pleased with this shoe. The strap is key. No idea if it's too gear-ish for you, but I don't think gear is the worst thing when you're sightseeing and practicality is key. It comes in plain black, too.

The sightseeing shoe for sure. I just spent a frustrating hour today trying some on. With a narrow heel and medium/narrow forefoot I cannot seem to find anything. Ecco falls off when I take a few steps. I probably should post and ask for suggestions. Someone else must have "weird feet" like me.

Layering tops under jackets and blouses. What's funny is that this was my problem when I joined YLF two years ago! I had only one plain black stretchy t-shirt that I wore regularly. Now I have a few variations of that same black shirt, but still not a whole lot of options. NO PROGRESS!

My current annoyance is that I don't have enough really hot weather dresses - I have two and I don't like one of them that much but it is too practical to discard. I am trying to buy a sundress that is ethically made and fits my style and is suitable for hot weather wear.

Longer term, I'd like a closefitting WHITE turtleneck sweater for winter, not cream or ivory. I have been wanting this for months.

I'd also like to replace my 4+ year old denin skirt with one without a front zip. A tall order to buy even without trying to restrict myself to certain retailers.

Perfect knee length puffer. I have been looking for one for the past two years, and am yet to find it: it has to be very fitted, sleek, not mid-thigh and not under the knee - true right-above-the-knee length. No fur trim. Ideally a removable hood. Black is just fine.

I did find one but at $700 it was way out of my budget

Tops that go with jeans & dressier pants are hard to find. I don't like tees. There are so many around in cheap fabric that feels awful & doesn't drape well.

The elusive bag too, I need something really light. I was tempted to lay out the money for a nylon Prada because I've been looking for 2 years but the reviews are really mixed & the one I wanted has sold out.

1. Comfortable non boot, non sandal 3 inch wedges so that I can commute in my work trousers without hems dragging. I have boot and sandal versions, so cold and hot weather is covered. But early fall and late spring, when it's too cold for sandals and too warm for boots - I would like to fill this hole.
2. Long tuxedo jacket or vest to wear with black ponte pants which almost fit like leggings. Must be 29 to 30 inches long to cover the biggest part of my thighs, if a jacket must be petite to fit my short arms. Not black as I don't care for all black outfits on me. I have tunics, a knit vest, and an open cardigan that I wear with these pants, but would like a dressier option. Tried a cream vest from Nordstrom, but the smallest size was too wide for my shoulders and waist.

Weekend wear has been really elusive for me so far. I've recently discovered an assumption about clothes which I never realised I had. It's so much of an assumption in our culture that I never even questioned it before. If it was one of the ten commandments, it would read "Thou shalt dress casually at weekends".

And this is a problem for me. The thing is, I've never actually liked dressing casually. I hate jeans and T-shirts. I've only just reached the conclusion that weekends for me are when I'd like to dress up MORE than I do in the week, not less! Hence the wardrobe holes. It's been fairly easy for me to assemble a working wardrobe - a few different tops in a few different colours each paired with three skirts in rotation. Done. However, I want my weekend wear to be a bit more special. The long sleeved solid coloured tops I wear for work won't cut the mustard. Therefore, I must be picky and patient this year in selecting my weekend wear.

I could definitely use several more pairs of comfortable 8-hour walking shoes that are stylish and have a 1.5" heel.
And perhaps not a need, more of a want: a flared or full skirt that hits me at the bottom of my kneecap. A true midi would be fab too.

Mander, I think I own your mythical perfect walking shoes. Hope a recommendation is welcome!

http://www.dkny.com/shoes/shop.....ybrid-flat

They're not *too* sparkly (i.e. don't look cheap), they're cute, and they have sneaker soles. They rub (on me) in one teensy tiny spot but it is quickly getting softer and then they will be perfect. Also: not too expensive. Only drawback is that they might want orthotics or something for a LOT of walking.

For me that item is the perfect white blazer. I need the right shade of white, a shape that is flattering on me, and a good fit. It has proven elusive thus far. Fun question!
