I ordered them in the smaller size, expected to ship mid May I plan on wearing them around the house for a few hours before taking the tags off. The staff did say that they were famous for stretching, but weren't sure about this particular style.

I had a problem with the ponte pants- I put them on low in the dryer, which I can normally get away with, but the shrunk lengthwise. Otherwise they were perfect and din't stretch out too much with wearing- unlike the jeans.
I ended up buying another pair, but they will never see the dryer!

I've had several pairs. The quality is getting better now. The sales staff usually advises to buy the tightest fit you can stand and that is generally what I do. They stretch out as you wear them--long before washing them.

I always ask though, because some fabrics and styles don't stretch out as much as others. I haven't had a problem with ponte pants stretching.

There are several different fabrications available these days. I had a pair of jeans in a thicker fabric and they did stretch out. I have another pair in a thinner fabric and I have no stretch-out problems at all. Also, the rise on these is lower so they actually feel more modern than the older styles.

I just realized they are twill. I think stretch twill often stretches out even more than stretch denim. Let's bump this thread for Angie when she gets back. She'll know.

Because those colours are delicious!

Helpful thread! I've been wanting to try the NYDJ brand, but haven't had a chance to venture downtown specifically to check out the big selection. Hmmm...they look great and lean, but the consensus seems to be "baggy-stretchy-out-problems". Will be keeping my eye on this thread for more info!

My experience with NYDJ was bad - total stretch out. And I DID NOT put them in the dryer. Well...I didn't put them in the dryer until I started putting them in there in desperation, hoping they might shrink!!

Angie has said they stretch out, too. But I think the ponte pants have a much better reputation, and I believe Angie recommended at NYDJ skirt at one point- check the store. I would trust Angie absolutely on this stuff. She really keeps her eye on it.

Of course, complicating all this is that manufacturers change their fabrications, so this year's jeans may be truly fab, for all I know.

I know Angie has said exactly what Christieanne mentioned - never put denim in the dryer. It's the heat that causes the fabric to stretch. She indicated she hangs all her denim up to dry and then when it's dry, tosses it in the dryer just on air fluff to take the stiffness out.

I'll be interested to see what others say about the brand because I'm also looking at the pretty colours.

I noticed all the nice colors that NYDJ was doing last time I was at Nordstrom. The sales manager suggested I try some on but I told him I didn't love the brand - I had a similar stretching problem before.
He told me it because I had put the jeans in the dryer - apparently if you want them to keep their shape you have to air dry or tumble on cool at least.

I didn't end up buying any but maybe that info will help you? Green is a fantastic color!

I tried these pants on yesterday in green and loved them, but am unsure about which size to buy. I've had NYDJ in the past that stretched out so much I quit wearing them. Online reviews are mixed and I trust my YLF compatriots.
