Great stuff! While you're at it, Inge - get peppa dews sold in a jar too. Mega yum.

Lena, our huge Asian grocery store has started stocking Indonesian Dutch products as well. But I get exactly what I want through my Dad who lives in the Netherlands so I guess I’m sorted there. But good to know in case I run out.

Looking forward to those recipes!

Sure Tam, go for it. You might need to add a spot of apricot jam. SA chutney is very sweet.

Christie, chutney is a Cape Malay thing. I LOVE making Cape Malay food too. But that’s very laborious so I’ll hold out till you come over to Seattle for a cooking day.

Vani, you do things chop-chop! Okay. First recipe will be out by tonight.

Thanks Angie. I've actually eaten very few chutneys, save for those they serve at Indian restaurants. I had no idea there was such a thing as South African chutney. Is this because of the significant Indian immigration early last century?

I'm excited for your recipes. I made chicken salad last night for today's lunch (both Greg's and mine). Thanks for the continuing inspiration.

I haven’t forgotten about the start of the YLF recipe exchange! Just been swamped. But things should ease up for a little bit.

I have a few DEAD SIMPLE recipes coming your way, but they all include South African chutney (Greg’s favourite condiment). This is easy to get in Britain, the Netherlands and Australia because of the thriving SA communities in those countries. It’s also available in British grocery stores here in the US. Failing that you can order online, which is what I end up doing after the stash my precious MIL supplies us with is finished.

These are our favourite brands:

http://store.fastcommerce.com/.....31932.html

http://store.fastcommerce.com/.....108fb.html

SA chutney is unique in flavour. It cannot be substituted for Indian chutney or anything else. (Well of course it *can*, but the flavours and results will be different). So I’m giving you a heads up before I begin the recipe cycle. Hope it’s doable. Lets cook!

Angie
xxx

p.s. it wouldn't be YLF without the global element :0)
