How many trash bags do you think your wardrobe would fill? My MIL recently died and I bagged up her clothes to take to Goodwill. We have 10 full black trash bags (the big heavy duty ones for yard trash) and that doesn't include the three very large boxes we mailed to my SIL after we put her in a nursing home.

Yup, yup. In our house, it's always the dark items that seem to go missing, but I've also found Christmas presents years later that I bought early, stashed away, and then forgot.

Static was the culprit in my most memorable case of a lost item. I was in a meeting at work years ago, felt an odd sensation near the bottom of my pants leg, and pulled out a lacy black thong. OMG.

I am currently missing my glasses... Went into the shower and when I went into my room, I thought to myself, "oops left my glasses... got dressed and went back to search and they are no where...checked the clothes I'd taken out of the bathroom, trash can , EVERYWHERE! I am totally bewildered and beside myself... wearing my old glasses and missing my bifocals... It's been 5 days...

Yes, all the time, and it is ALWAYS a black basic. (Leggings, a layering tee, a sweater...)

The culprit is that on week days I get dressed very, very early in the morning, before my partner is awake, so I need to keep the lighting dim. It's really hard to tell black pieces in my dresser apart from one another, and I always "lose" the one essential layering piece I need to complete my outfit!

Well, this is too funny and ridiculous.
Of course I had riffled through the hangers multiple times and " looked" on the floor underneath.
But today as soon as I actually pulled out s chunk of hanging items completely, there it was on the floor next to the wall.
My story is, it JUST recently must have made its way down there while being hung up somehow!

I have been searching for a lost pair of black lace boyshorts for six months. I have asked (grilled) both of my daughters and have searched high and low. I do not have a large wardrobe -- so that's not the only culprit. But it has been driving me crazy! They were a fairly new pair and a new style and I loved them and one day -- poof! -- they were gone.

But then, yesterday, I was going through the box of things I had put away for the winter, and there, clinging to a pair of tights, were those boyshorts!!!!! HAPPY DANCE!

I just hate losing things, period. It's like my whole world is out of balance.

Yes this has happen to me too...I have a Christmas present that I bought early in the shopping season for my sister in law...probably 10 years ago...never to be found again.

Currently I am missing a pair of summer work wear cropped black pants that I LOVE...missing...dry cleaner swears they don't have them.

Also, a brand new tube of MAC lipstick in my favorite color. I have looked in all purses, under the seats in my car, jacket pockets...nothing...sigh...

Oh! I recognize this! Yes! It hasn't happened since my closet has been cleared out and redone, but, I did recently leave a necklace in my purse. I must have mindlessly dropped it in there when I was at my Pilates session and then forgot. I spent a good hour hunting for it before I opened my purse to get my cell phone and the necklace was draped around my sunglasses case.

I hope you find your new top! Usually my misplaced items turn up when I stop looking.

Oh so frustrating!!

I don't have a huge wardrobe but this still happens. Often with socks and undies that disappear into the vortex of the dryer never to be seen again --- unless I find them in my daughter's drawer a year later, that is.

It also sometimes happens with newly purchased items that I haven't had time to put away. I put the bag somewhere in the closet and then forget where I put it, and sometimes my husband moves it, or -- worse -- tosses it! That last thing only happened once, I think, and luckily we got it before it ended up donated.

Sheesh!!

I hope you find your new top!

Arg! So frustrating. I find things get lost when they somehow get "stuck" to another piece of clothing during the laundry cycle. My other issue is my husband cannot tell the difference between my clothes and my daughter's clothes. (she is 12...I am 51 and have a few pounds on her so... WHAT?). After he does the laundry, we have to spend a couple days handing each other our clothes back!

I am so stealing Diana's reasoning...my wardrobe's not too large. My closet's too small!

Actually I haven't lost anything in my wardrobe, but I'm incredibly OCD about my closet. However, my teenage son manages to completely lose 4-5 pair of pants/year. Like gone. Not in the house. What the heck are you doing with your pants, son?

When this happens to me, it's usually because it somehow ended up with my husbands shirts after laundry day and put into his dresser, which has no organizational structure whatsoever. So he looks through four separate drawers full of shirts/pants/who-knows-what-else and gives it back to me.

Or (sometimes) I never pulled it out of the bag I carried it home in...

The only times I've had this happen, it has turned out that 1) it was an item that got folded with the laundry and put away in my husband's stuff, 2) it was something like a top or tee and it got put away in my pajama drawer because it was folded in between some pajama tops, 3) one of my stepsons WORE it! (yeah, it's kind of weird, but one day my 6'5" stepson walked into the kitchen wearing MY jeans, and what's weirder is that they fit!). I think one time something fell behind my bureau too, but I realized it pretty quickly.

My niece has a problem with things disappearing because her cat likes to carry things around her apartment and hide them.

Hehe, this happens to me a lot too. In my case, it's not really a case of my wardrobe being too large (although it is large, I don't think it's too large...) but more a case of my actual physical closet being too small and poorly laid out. My closet is small, deep, and dark (typical of an old New England building) and multilayered (I have shelves and baskets on the floor under the hanging bar) so sometimes something will fall off a hanger into the laundry basket, or into a basket of socks, or behind a shelf.

I'm also an "out of sight, out of mind" type of person, so more often than not I'll forget I even have the item (unless it's a particular favorite) and only remember when it turns up in some weird place 3 months later!

Yep - in my case it is almost always in the laundry hamper or the dry cleaning bag.

Yes, it's so frustrating to lose something. I currently can't find a running skirt. I know I wouldn't have gotten rid of it - it was in perfectly fine condition. I've looked everywhere I can think of and it hasn't turned up. I'm planning on emptying and tidying all my drawers when I switch my summer and fall clothes in a few weeks and I'm hoping maybe I'll find in then (although I've looked in said drawers already).

Oh heavens, YES! Usually it's something I later remember I gave away. So I'm left with the double whammy of missing an item and worrying about age-related memory loss.
