I practice Yoga few times a week & I prefer to be in

activewear for a better performance & ease. You don't need to spend a fortune on yoga clothes, but it's good to have a set of clothing that you dedicate just for working out. For one, you're going to sweat in them a lot & other it's also helpful to just get into the mindset of working out.

All that said, certain fabrics are better at wicking away moisture. In terms of exercise, this means keeping your sweat off of you. This helps prevent chafing and rashes.

When I started yoga, my instructor made it clear that I needed to wear clothes that allowed her to see my form, so she could correct alignment as necessary. Since then, I've realized that I really like yoga tops for yoga, because they are long enough not to show skin in back no matter what position you're in. But if you're going for the first few times, put on some gym shorts and a babydoll T and ask the instructor to correct you, and if they can see well enough to be able to do that. Probably my favorite yoga teacher wore plain white crew neck T-shirts/undershirts. When he moved, we all wore them for his going-away party.

What Becky said. I find clothes with stretch and moisture-wicking most comfortable for yoga. (My favorite recent addition is a jumpsuit.) I like to have something that’s tight-fitting to my knees and with some fabric on the upper calf to prevent slipping when I’m in Tree pose (as I can’t always get above my knee.) Wear what you feel comfortable in!

Absolutely not. I have been doing yoga since 1989 and can't abide the restrictive feeling of tight clothing. I usually wear a ribbed cotton stretch tank that's fitted enough not to fall down during headstands, and loose, lightweight stretchy pants from Athleta that are marketed as wear-anywhere. One of my favorite yoga teachers always wears the more traditional style of Indian yoga gear and looks fantastic. Here's an interesting article about what "real" yoga clothes look like. http://https//mic.com/articles.....-look-like

It depends on what exercise you plan to do. If you are just planning on walking- no you don’t need special clothing but you do need supportive shoes. If you are planning to do yoga- again you don’t need special clothing but you do want something comfortable and that won’t get in your way

I too prefer yoga wear simply because it is easier to check your form to make sure you are doing the poses properly. Plus the active wear I purchase wicks moisture away from my skin so that I stay cool and comfortable during my workout.

I prefer to wear yoga wear (or other stretchy athletic wear) when I do yoga or other exercise because it allows you to fully stretch and doesn't move around when it's not supposed to. I only wear sports bras for yoga for the same reason.

I'd have a hard time doing yoga in street clothes! You don't have to buy fancy yoga gear certainly, but there is a reason we wear more form fitting attire when doing yoga. Don't want your top falling up (down?) in downward dog, or your pants constricting you from warrior poses! Personally I don't even like to wear sweats for yoga. I like a legging and a long-line sports bra. Which is similar to what I would wear to a spin class (I'd pop a tank or tee over), or a run (I'd add a more supportive bra), or weights (I wear shorts rather than leggings actually!) I actually have a pretty large range of fitness attire, geared (pun intended!) to what activity I'm doing. But if you are new to exercise I think having a couple appropriate to your workout pieces of gear is a good idea.

No. I actually could do yoga in a majority of my actual clothes because they're THAT comfortable. I tend to use activewear just to help my mind know "now it's time to burn calories" and switch to regular clothes to signal my mind "time to get things knocked off the to-do list"

No. You can exercise in your prom dress if you fancy. There's also a book on how to yoga in the nude. In general, anything not too hot, not too constricting will do.
