Thanks to all for reading and commenting.

pil, thank you, I am finding that jeans are super-tolerant of more shoe "looks" than dress pants, so that's where I'm having trouble.
Diana--you're right, my little voice told me these were too light/reflective. I've tried several nude/tan styles but just haven't hit the right ones, but they look better with dresses overall, so maybe one day.

Thistle, and Raisin, I think you are right. On the one hand I confess I sometimes hold back enthusiasm if I'm unsure of something that is pushing the envelope because I'm shy that I might be way off. So I will be uncommittal.
There is an element of that to these shoes, including that these could be one of several pairs, don't have to be "the one and only". But actually trying them at home and now posting and getting some feedback has been very helpful to me. I think it is rather like Mochi's dress. I have tried a lot of oxfords, and each one had some pros and cons and got me closer to understanding what I like and why.

It has also caused me to look at more slipper flats (just returned a Hego flat that I loved but is sold out in my size) and even re-examining "ballet" flats (though the less ballet-like) because they seem to be able to do something that isn't happening with oxfords, especially for dresses and skirts.

I think CH is a brand to watch because I've had a good fit in 3-4 styles. But I'm going to return these. The comments here have helped me see that. I am hoping that as Thistle said, the right ones will come along and I won't feel uncertain.

I love silver and I would love a silver pair of shoes. I'd like to see them paired with some lighter color shorts tees and skirts or dresses. I do really like them on you, but it sounds like you don't like them so much.

I think these do work, but the question is, will you reach for them?

You just don't sound excited about silver footwear, even mixing it with your outfits in the comfort of your home. If you are nto excited about it now, will you ever be?

While I like them, my thoughts are to wait for something you love.

I have a pair of CHEEP, CHEEP, CHEEP shiny metallic oxfords from the Rack that look similar to the Skylar. They are most definitely a => LOOK AT ME <= shoe. I ALWAYS get comments every single time I wear them. So just a warning. In addition to lighter colored pants, I wear them with skirts so then they are really visible. As replacements, I just bought the silver Tildon oxfords which went on sale at the Half Yearly sale since they are more wearable with skirts.

Note: My first => LOOK AT ME <= footwear was a pair of TJ Maxx bright blue faux suede booties which were under $27. Good price point to learn how it feels to wear attention getting footwear and whether it discourages me from wearing them. My feet are too wide to wear the Skylars or the silver Sam Edelmans Angie featured.

They do seem a bit too light with the outfits shown here, although I like the overall style. Might I suggest you try a gold or a nude instead? It's still light, but warmer and more neutral, and I find it much, much easier than cold white or silver since pretty much any light color will bookend it sufficiently, as will your skin.

I wish I knew enough to offer suggestions. I quite like this shoe on you and like them better than the other pair with the pink (?) soles, maybe because they are more substantial. They would look terrific with jeans and your white Catherine's if you decided to keep those. What about a picture with your lab coat to see if that makes them more palatable to your eye?

Thanks liz--it seemed like I just had to try them and I have to be careful because I'm anxious to add some comfortable, updated footwear. But the nagging thing is as you say, these are probably not really "me". I'm not sure that my durable footwear is easy to keep ladylike--but maybe more PPP is needed. I am trying to work toward refined and modern footwear and the comfort factor isnt' always there, but I also know that I'm not one for a "look at me" look.

i think they look good, and these outfits work with the possible exception of 3, but they don't strike me as particularly you.
caveat #1 - i haven't seen your other oxfords. i seem to remember seeing you in more feminine footwear.
caveat #2 - they don't look particularly silver in these pictures, so it is hard to gauge the shininess from these photos.
so are you trying to push the envelope with these? do you want your footwear to be noticed? if so, give them a try. if not, maybe look for something lower contrast.

Angie is the Skylar reflective oxford queen, so perhaps she will weigh in later. But many of you fabbers have light- colored footwear this season.

I was not remotely interested in these to begin with because 1) I wear mostly dark pants including black and 2) I’m brunette so light footwear doesn’t really bookend.

After many oxford misses, I went to a local dept store to re-try some of the Cole Haans for fit and color. Again, had nixed the light grays offered and did not want the neon soles. Tried the Skylar in a size too big just for fun and still said, too light for me. This even though they were on sale elsewhere (Nordies). But the CH fit is quite good for a pretty serious workday shoe in several of their styles and TTS. Also the comparison of several styles proved to me I like the dark sole better than the neon sole—no one would care if I wore lemon or pink soled-oxfords but it is not a goal for work.

Then I began to wonder if I were missing an opportunity and should at least try the Skylars at home and make a final decision—maybe it would just be a clear “no”.

Here are some results and my issues: One minute I worry they could look clownish, since they stand out so much, and the next minute, could look fashionably sporty-refined for my purposes. My eye is just not used to light footwear with dark trousers. Very light footwear at work is NOT a real style goal, nor are total metallics like true silver, so I’d be trying to think whether these are somehow right for other reasons—saved by some elements of the black soles, overlap perhaps with sport shoe in a good way, meaning, something different about “reflective” vs. metallic, and that the message is serious foot comfort for hard work. The sole is rubbery which is actually better for busy workdays than the hard leather clacky sole of some very nice Italian oxfords. Also not shown is the ubiquitous white coat, which may mitigate the shock of light footwear somewhat.

I’ve tried to show “worst case scenario’s with my FFBO’s, using several somewhat overly-wide trousers that I’m still wearing. Of course the shoes look much more modern with a tapered pant or ankle pant, but I don’t have much of that for work, now. I have shown tops that include some gray, white or cream, and jewelry, to "bookend" a bit

So to be really useful, they probably should work right away, with outfits something like this, including several colors shown and not just black. Then doing outfits with jeans, white jeans, track pants or some new tapered pants would be gravy. (not shown are 2 straighter-leg trousers, at the tailor). Also, ideally they should not be “dated” for about a year--say wearing into next spring—beyond that would not be a problem at this price point if I wear them to work regularly.

The final issue is that I began to realize CH has made a LOT of other colors in their oxfords, even the Skylar style, just not available now, and so I could wait and see what comes out, and skip summer.

1) AT black trousers with cardi 2) BR sweater 3) olive-y trouser 4) taupe colors 5) WHBM tweedy flare 6) skinny pant 7)Gray bootcut

Yay --they work with dark pants and brunette (+/- more styling efforts –e.g, if bookending better with lighter tops or jewelry would help.)

Nay—they look weird. Stick with darker colors.

Comments and suggestions welcome.
