Love you in those citrus hues! Now do tell, are the ribbon bands part of the dress/skirt or did you add those? The colors are just awesome together, and the purplish band with the purplish shoes looks amazing. This is a fab more is more look!

Late entry! I took the picture on Thursday, but then was too crazy busy to load my pics until now. I didn't have a chance to do anything for Friday, but I'm happy to have been able to do 4/5.

This was the picture I was most looking forward to outfitting. The photo was so bright and overwhelming, so I wanted my outfit to be the same. For me this photo demanded a more is more outfit.

Vani, I loved reading your Walmart story, it must have been quite the shock! Lovely dress, plays off the colors and chaos in the inspiration photo wonderfully. The extra additional white elements look fab. Also must say that your hair looks super cute!

Jenava, LOVE this! The black and white gingham is such a great nod to the stacks of goods, and also is the perfect anchor to the rest of your colorful outfit. And those shoes! So awesome!

WoW! I am blown away by all the deeply insightful interpretations here. I feel like a little bit of the cheat with my outfit! I just took the photograph very literally and ran with the ALGO theme My very first glance of the picture reminded me of the first time I stepped into a grocery store - Walmart - as a FOB grad student. I was SO overwhelmed by all the choices for even the very basic of necessities. I was coming from a household where the milkman delivered fresh milk to out doorstep everyday and here there were 4 kinds of milk to every brand! Hence the strong association with ALGO.

The dress has a lot of lines, though none are really horizontal, and, lots of bold pattern and color. So I added a few more pops of white with the watch and ring. To add more bits of color, I wore my hoop earrings with transparent flat faceted glass beads in green, blue, yellow, orange and red. Unfortunately, I don't have a decent shot of them.

Aida, Ornella, AJ, cjh, Heather, rae, Sveta and others - I have thoroughly enjoyed your commentary and perspectives!

Thanks also for your lovely comments on my outfit!

Suz, I don't have much yellow either! I found that all my yellow is contained in 2 tops and 2 scarves. It's not one of my primary (heh get it?) colors, though I've been feeling more and more inclined to wear it lately.

Ornella, the watch was working last I wore it several years ago. It must have stopped while sitting, neglected, in my armoire. I found the idea of it being stopped just so perfectly ironic for today's challenge.

Sveta, it is always interesting to break down outfits that are artistically inspired. When one reads the process it sounds mechanical, but when the outfit is viewed as a whole it's so much more organic. I LOVE being able to play on both sides of this line

cjh, great subtle print mix! I really love #5 with the red belt! If it's too intense though, how about a blue or white? You could also tuck the top in and wear the red belt without the paisley topper. I agree with O that shortening the skirt just a bit would make it super, super cute. Must also say that your smile in #5 is just the best :D

Kim, definitely presentable! I think the casual top works nicely with the dark bermudas, and I just adore the stacked necklaces. I think it looks great, though it is probably a bit more casual than what we usually see from you :)

Heather, this is such a pretty, SOFT interpretation of the photo. Like someone threw a 50's female actress soft focus filter over the photograph and said, "Hey, calm down. It's cool." I adore your plaid shirt and turquoise necklace!

AJ, using the gold accessories is a lovely subtle way of incorporating the yellow from the photograph. Fab print mixing, and you look great in that tomato red!

Jjsloane, great dress and those black elements you paired really stand out nicely. A bolder combination than the nude/metallic in #2, and both work quite nicely.

Marley, that is such a cuuuute gingham top!! It IS a lot going on, but it works nicely for the challenge. I think you could easily modify this to wear out as a simpler outfit, if you wanted; you have great elements here that can be mixed in different ways!

tracina, this apple green is so pretty on you! And it looks very nice and crisp with the white long shorts. FAB beaded shoes, a perfect small dose of lots of color!

Sveta, I love the dark, somewhat muted colors in your top paired with the bright, golden skirt. They work surprisingly well together! The red shoes and teal bag are perfect additional splashes of color.

Rae, VERY nice blocked outfit! This makes me think of what we'd see if we zoomed waaaay in and focused on just a tiny area in the photograph, or if we turned the photo into oversized pixels. The proportions of the cropped jacket+midi pencil skirt are so awesome.

Kari, you did a great job interpreting the photo on a less hectic level. I love that you have several colors, yet the only print (which is subtle) is in your scarf. The minimal accessories (no specs, earrings, necklace) works perfectly with the simplicity you were trying for with this outfit. Nicely done!

(Whew! Lots of participants today, that's awesome!)

It was a treat to see all the lovely outfits inspired by today's photograph. The cacophony and chaos led to some of the most diverse interpretations yet, very fun to see. I'm tickled that several of you also thought of going monochromatic with this :D

Suz, clever use of primary colorblocking to portray ALL the colors! Love the way you've tied your pretty scarf, and what a perfect handbag for this challenge.

Joy, both your skirt and scarf have gorgeous prints! Paired together they certainly evoke the chaotic mood of the photo. I like the sound of your usual skirt outfits, and think that scarf would look smashing with an otherwise all neutral look.

Bella, I love this (somewhat) subtle pattern mix! The purple being in both the blouse and skirt makes this a much smoother transition than one might expect. Good on you for mixing when you usually don't!

Mary, this is one of my favorite outfits I've seen you post ever. Seriously, those colors are DELICIOUS (literally, so citrusy and yummy looking!). The pops of turquoise/teal are just perfectly paired, and the white blazer/purse keep everything looking super, super crisp (love the plastic bag nod).

Diana, on first glance the colors and print here work perfectly from the inspiration photo. But the close-up of your outfit is what I really love, it shows all the different textures you've got going. And the idea of jingly bracelets is super!

Lynne, pretty monochrome interpretation! I really like the idea of using a small print to emulate the "noise" one sees in the photo.

Ornella, loved your 2-part saga! Your top's print is subtle, and makes me think of how the photo looked when I squinted at it; everything blurred together and actually looked rather calming. I especially like your close up; like Diana, here is where we can see that you've got several interesting textures going on. (Fun story about the jewelry too, the Black Hills are really magnificent looking. Last summer we stopped by Devil's Tower out there, it was pretty incredible!)

Okay, so my first reaction was - YAY! Color!

Yellow, red/pink, and white were the predominant colors that stood out to me at first glance in the inspiration photo, so that was the base for my outfit. However, I challenged myself to take the hectic-ness of the inspiration photo and transform it into a cleaner outfit. I may play for Team Maximal, but boy do I sure love a beautiful, semi-minimalist look once in a while, too.
Also a departure for me - I'm only wearing a scarf and a watch. Nary a pair of specs, earrings, or a necklace in sight.

Yellow pencil skirt, white blouse (double cuffed), printed silk scarf, periwinkle handbag, burgundy pumps, white watch.

I think this challenge should get a reward for the highest number of participants. Everybody is so creative!
Suz, I personally love that white skirt on you. It is the perfect canvas for all these colors, isn't it? Love the scarf and the tote!
Joy, what a lovely skirt - and lovely to see your pictures 4th day in a row!
Bella, this skirt does echos the picture - in spirit if not in color. A perfect pattern match here!
MaryK, that was an easy one for you. Love the white plastic bag and teal "9s" association!
Diana, I like your "consumerism" parallel.
Lynne, you look ethereal in this ditsy print - and that denim jacket is such a perfection with this dress.
Ornella, your continuity theme is genius! I like your subdued interpretation - this is how you do ALGO when your are on Team LIM! Lovely story about that necklace and those bracelets are perfect for this challenge.
cjh, this skirt will look great with higher heels. I like #5 with the red belt.
QM, I hope you dared to leave the house in this outfit because it is fun!
Heather, love you outfit and that necklace is gorgeous! I am not much for plaid myself but you rock it.
Aida, love you interpretation, so feminine and "engineering" in the same time - and your reference ti time is sublime!
AI, these are really lovely colors on you.
Jjsloane, you do look French chic!
Marley, I am glad you went out in this outfit because it is so much fun. Love that purse - you should get together with Mary K and do purse - shoes combo.

Late submission! The strongest impression I got was of the red and yellow colors, the lines, and the white. I might have gone a little crazier, but it's not Friday yet! Also, I don't really own that many prints... hmm...

I have to come back and comment on other outfits - this week was crazy busy for me...
Quickly posting my version. This picture was the busiest in the challenge and I selected this blouse for it: it has the busiest pattern I own in multiple colors. Yellow skirt, red shoes and teal bag reflect the most common colors from the picture.

Today was harder for me. I used to have a knit top in a confetti print that had those exact colors in it. I liked the top but not the fit and just recently donated it.
I do have a stripped button down that also has pretty much those colors and I tried it and decided it is going into the donate pile because of the style not the print. I am a fan of color blocking only in small doses. I love the colors together in that photo but I don't really like the business of it.

I really feel like a fool in this outfit. Just way too much goin' on for me! But I'm wearing it today! I am trying to show you that the bottom of my shoes are yellow in the 2nd photo!

P.S. The purse is an old Kate Spade - I think it matches MaryK's Kate Spade shoes!

Wow what a great inspiration and so many fabulous interpretations. I chose my inspiration from what I saw as the dominant red, white, and slivers of black for my outfit. I was tempted to add yellow shoes, but it looked clownish on me. For contrast I'm showing this dress in #2 how I would normally wear it, but I'm glad I added the black accents today for something different. So the challenge challenged me! I even felt a little French in it.
Dress: Pippa (found on amazing discount at Bloomies sale) is a print which I thought was red and khaki, but is really cherry red/hot pink and peach?
white Jacket: Talbots
skinny black belt from some dress
Small colorful wooden disk necklace (gift) has all the colors
Shoes: nude with black trim shoes Arturo Chang

I immediately noticed three things: the color red, horizontal lines and the compactness of the products.

I happen to have a tomato red striped shirt so that was my first item. I played around with different ways to interpret the tight spacing of the store items and then it dawned on me that my avatar skirt would fit the bill and add some neutral colors. I toyed with the idea of adding some yellow since that color stood out to me as well. In the end, I decided to keep the accessories simple (gold stud earrings, gold chain and pearl necklace, and nude wedge sandals) to add some polish to the bold color and pattern mix.

I likey! Thanks Bella!

@Aida, I am once again blown away by the insight that went into creating this outfit. That AND, of course, the fact you picked up on the lines too!
The time in your outfit - that element is just out of this world. (Should I even go that far and ask why 7:02?)

Aida, love the idea of tying the scarf around your bag. I, too, was struck by the red and yellow...and only had one (partly) yellow scarf to represent that colour in my entire closet!

This was an interesting photo to draw inspiration from, because for once, I am not inspired by the colors; instead I am inspired by the geometry, a minor dose of color, and the idea of time.

_Geometry_
When I look at this photo as a desaturated image, what really strikes me is the geometry; there are lines everywhere! I've based my outfit around that. Every piece I'm wearing except my purse is patterned: my top is boldly striped (specifically representing the shelves), my skirt has a vertical tone-on-tone stripe pattern, the scarf at my neck has a painterly grid pattern (specifically representing the stacks of items), the scarf on my purse is floral, my shoes are houndstooth, and even my sunglasses have tortoiseshell frames.

_Color_
There are so many colors, and in such small doses, that the overall effects is blended to me. Since this is a photographic challenge, I took that notion of blending colors and came up with white (as opposed to paint where we'd get black). I reflected this in my skirt, which also has little silver threads running through it to further play on that idea of light. Even though there are a lot of colors, red and yellow both stand out to me as the most strongly represented; so I wore my red purse with a little yellow scarf tied to it. Also wore a bright coral lip gloss.

_Time_
The vast number of products really make me think about time; time spent manufacturing, delivering, shelving, consumers browsing the store, items sitting in their homes waiting to be used, and finally refuse sitting in a landfill... So I decided to wear a watch today, which I haven't done in years. The hands are frozen at 7:02
