@MandipaM - The tunic may be doing most of the work, but it was the perfect choice! The color is beautiful on you and the shape gives you a long, sleek line. The brown layers and accessories are nice finishing touches.

@Ana - So creative to capture the mood and shapes instead of the colors! LUV your outfit!

@Diana - FAB selection of colors and textures! The jewelry fits nicely with the theme. Waving hi to your little friend! What a cutie!

@Joy - SQUEE! What a FAB interpretation! The sheerness of the cardigan is a great representation of the early evening sky! That necklace is oddly beautiful if you don't mind my saying that.

@Ornella - So good to see you pop in! Wow, your MOTG style is just as FAB as your office looks! Luv your whole outfit! Have you modeled before? Your pose is excellent!

@MaryK - Luv how you still sneaked in a pop of bright in a muted color outfit! Can't keep a color happy gal down! I will automatically luv any outfit of yours which is styled with that FAB blouse!

@goldenpig - That plaid skirt and textured cardigan are perfect for this inspiration challenge!

@Rae - Ooohhh, I likey!! You look so effortlessly cool and stylish! Luv the reflected moons of your accessories and shoes. Nicely styled!

@Kiwichik - The different tones of grey and rose are lovely on you!

@Carole - Regardless of the colors, there is a light, floatyness in the layered tops that captures the same feeling of the pinks in the evening sky. The shoes were a great choice and they remind me of elephant toes too! YLF!

Stopping here for now...more to come.

Everyone looks so good! It's so fascinating to see all the different interpretations, our outfits really reflect the aspect of the photo we responded most to. For me it was colour, for others texture, for some it was the vibe of the photo as a whole. What's most interesting to me is how despite the great variation in our outfits, they all make sense in connection to the photo!

Woke up this morning all agog to see everyone's (overnight, for me!) interpretations. Thank you, Bella, for all the excitement and insight and sheer rollicking fun!

Denise, Sveta --- I'll take a bow! Thank you ever so kindly for the compliments! Funny thing how that pretty ancient tunic feels so much more 'ME' than many other newer garments I own; guess that's why it stays and survives umpteen purges, as a placeholder in my 'style sweetspot'...

Suz and Denise and Amy, love how you managed to get a line-up of elephants and not just the solitary trunk! Really makes a difference, I think, because in a sense we're looking at a group photo, imbued with a sense of community which repeating the motif manages to convey so well.

Astrid, love how you picked up the distant green in the photo. I'd been struggling to find a way to do that! While most of us went for the sky, I think you're the one with the most 'down-to-earth' interpretation of the photo, with the sand and the trees and scrub foregrounded. Such a great about-the-house outfit too! I'm definitely taking notes and saving this for future inspiration!

Bella, how could anyone forget *that* dress. Like the memory of elephants, it is legendary! But what you've come up with instead is so perfect, I can't say I'm missing the dress at all when I look at you. Those grey pants are just so spot-on! And I love how you interpret texture as visual rather than tactile, which is of course entirely true to photography as an art! So amazingly inspiring! Thanks for the reminder.

Suz, I love your scarf so much, and the way you've draped it to hang down the front. And your *Sand* booties too are picture-perfect for this!

Denise, blown away by that blouse!! WOW! The sheer fluidity is amazingly evocative of both sky and water here... And I'm a little misty-eyed (to match the haze) at your musings about your mother's pendant --- whose organic quality also matches the mood. You look as beautiful and poignant as the inspiration Bella set up.

And Dianthus has easily the most poetic interpretation of all so far. Way to capture the mood with no reliance on palette and texture and pattern! I'm so impressed!

Jonesy, you do good painting. Loving the sound of your outfit, especially the vest.

Love the colours and shifting colours of JJ's pants, and the rugged associations of that jacket, the reflective silver-grey sandals. JJ, take care of that leg.

Aida, I think you have the most novel interpretation --- straightened hair! By the way, how do you straighten? It doesn't look completely flat-ironed...though I have zero experience with these devices. You look beautiful, and so touching to salute your mother and your heritage this way.

Marcy, I hope you wear this outfit out of the house! Why wouldn't you? Love it so much --- the layering of colours is, to me, the best interpretation of the changing colours of that darkening sky. Divine, in and of itself, particularly with the tint of your hair.

L'Abeille, so good to see you, *and* your mom. Love your outfit, one of the most casual, easy, laidback interpretations... and can I say you're beautiful? And admiring your mom's creativity --- this is a stellar lesson in SYC, isn't it? If you don't have something in your closet that's the 'right' colour or shape or texture, think laterally! LOVE what she's done there, focusing on just one pivotal aspect of the photo (place), and spinning everything else (time, 'persons') around to suit HER wardrobe.

Jenava, beautiful ring! And perfect shoes! The colours of your outfit tone so well with the undertones of your complexion and eyes too. Pity about the sweater, but maybe it can be mended?

Sveta, that is SMASHING! All the textures and even shapes are so evocative of the elements in that photo, down to the beads and round metal rivets. And it's a very *Sveta* outfit, on top of working with the challenge too. I bet you could wear this to work or evening out equally well.

Amy, so admiring your talent for making your own 'haze'! You clearly had fun posing! (I'm thinking we all had great fun with this --- Bella, can't stop thanking you --- and Amy's obvious playfulness really shows it.) Yours must be the prettiest, sweetest interpretation of all. You look enchanting. It's the kind of easy, breezy, feminine-detailed outfit that would make me smile all day.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! Can you guys? Maybe I'm just extra charmed and excited and awed because this is the first such challenge I've actually seen *in action* since finding YLF --- but I can't imagine this getting old.

This community is so amazing, and this is such a great reminder of that. (Thanks, Angie and Greg! Hope you're proud as peacocks and pleased as punch with the success of this party you're hosting!)

I'm simply bowled over by how fab all of your outfits are. I'm late to the party, but better late than never, right?

My interpretation of this photo is rather straight forward.

Colors: Shades of pink, brown and silver

Figures: Elephant earrings!

Textures: Shoes and "pebbled" silver bag reminded me of elephant skin...in a completely romanticized way--but the photo is rather romantic in feeling, don't you think?

Light: Dark colors that absorb light (skirt and blouse) offset by a reflective surface (bag=moon)

"Haziness" provided by silk/mohair shawl I knit last year.

I am so late to the party but better late than never, isn't it?
There were two things which struck me while looking at this picture: color combination and texture mix.
This color combination is one of my very favorite: pink and grey. However as much as I like it I don't have anything pink to work with so I decided that my purple-red silk shirt is the next best thing: even though it is more saturated that colors in the picture it is in the same family. Fore grey I used my wide leg trousers.
There is also a rich texture mix in the picture: rough of the elephant skin and shine, reflective surface of water. Again my silk shirt fit the bill providing a "reflective" surface while tweed texture of the trousers and especially the textured wrinkled leather of the jacket played the role of elephant skin.
Now my duty is done and I am off to see the others!

Girl X, I am drooling! I haven't looked at everyone's contribution yet, and am excited to go back and have a look! Here is mine. I went with two shades of the pinkish color, grey straight-legs (with crotch issues...sigh), and lavneder suede booties. My ring (yay, team ring!) is kinda like an elephant's tusk!

This wasn't my favorite outfit. for one thing, I discovered a tiny hole in the back of my sweater. And the pants aren't a great fit. I do like the tonal pinks, though, so I think in future I'll be inspired to match colors in the same family that don't "match".

I'm posting this on my mother's account, since she is working all day today. We're both trying the nature inspiration challenge this week.
Mine is inspired by the photograph's colours, and I'm wearing a velvet seed bracelet I bought when I was in Kenya.
Hers is inspired by african animals at a waterhole, only it's zebras and blue sky, rather than elephants and pink sky.

I can't say that I would actually wear mine out of the house, but I tried to capture some of the range of sunset colors, and the grays and taupes with the jacket and booties. My silver pearl necklace-worn-as-a-bracelet is supposed to evoke the water and the moon.

(OT, I feel like my hair styled straight shows my Armenian side much more strongly than normal, which comes from my mom. I'm definitely looking more like her today!)

I took my inspiration from the varying shades of the same colour family in the photo. I don't have anything elephantine (pachydermish?), so played with the belt a bit to give my outfit a trunk.

SO many great additions.

Here's mine before I maimed myself with a tent stake in the ankle. Yes it hurt a LOT. Mostly because I am now limited to flats for work all week.

The colors reminded me of my new madras patch capri pants (JCrew via ebay - they have zippers at ankles and pockets so a little cool factor, but I know are for preppy me and not too many others). I added a crisp white tunic button down (LL Bean iron free), a consignment denim jacket (more fitted and like a chambray weight with a little stretch) and my Clarks wedges that remind me of elephant skin.
DH reminded me "It's only Sunday" so I changed out the button down for a slouchy white tee and did a demituck but the photo is unflattering and I've had enough humiliation the last couple of days.

Here's mine. Boy, this was harder than I thought!

Pearl stud earrings to represent the moon. This top was closest to the pink in the inspiration photo that I could get. The belt represents the elephants and their wrinkly skin texture. The charcoal grey skirt is their reflection in the water. I wanted to bookend the pink so these dark fuschia sandals was what I came up with, but now that I think about it, I should have used my mauve snakeskin flats. Oh well, I tried! : )

These are all so fab! Ornella, how wonderful to see you again! I hope your packing goes smoothly--how exciting!

I actually wore something that was inspired by this gorgeous pic, but I didn't snap a WIW because it's so dark and gloomy here, and I was all wrinkled and cranky by the time my hectic day had ended :).

Maybe this will paint a picture (I acknowledge this is pathetic): White and purple paisley button down, gray soft slouchy trousers, black tailored vest, black booties, silver belt and bracelets.

So many great interpretations. I am not going to mention them all because I am sure to forget a few from the first page.

I was thinking about the story of the picture. It was the end of the day and I was thinking of new beginnings. I tried to incorporate the colors but also decided to shed winter and change over completely to spring today. Sadly it was quite cold (7C) this morning so I did have to put a jacket on.

I wore the pinky red dress with a grey/blue cropped sweater, the grey pearls, and the new grey shoes.
