Mary I'm going to give you a run for your money in the "literal interpretation" category ;)</p> <p>Outfit description and interpretation:<br /> I went the super literal route and am sporting all white. I am wearing a white drapey tee semi-tucked into white cropped cargo pants. I've got a black belt and black banded heeled sandals to imitate the black bands across the figure in the painting; I put my dark hair only half-up to imitate the figure's black outline. Since I don't have blond hair, I moved the yellow down and wore a mustard necklace. I added blue and green bangles (for the leaves and curtains), and wore bright coral lip gloss and left my nails red an extra day in tribute to the apples For outerwear I added a blue and green scarf (with sparkly gold threads!) along with my creamy white bucket back and giant sunglasses.</p> <p>Final thoughts:<br /> While the painting is certainly bold, it feels very organic to me so I was pleased that my outfit ended up with a boho-beachy-natural vibe. I have not paired accessories in *gasp* 3 different colors before, so this was a Fun Thing. I've also not worn a necklace+scarf without a coat on before. AND this is my first time wearing white pants! Love how this challenge inspires us to try such new things :D</p> <p>(OT1: KELLY! Something was off, strange, I couldn't pinpoint what. When you know it must be right in front of your eyes yet you can't see it. So I took a long hard look at it. </p> <p>The painting inspired time off, vacation, relaxation, freedom even because of the nudity, yet there was something dark, austere about it. And suddenly I started to see how this painting is all about binary oppositions and contrasts. It's a perfect painting for bold color blocking or stripes.</p> <p>The body is white and nude, yes, but all the same contained, restricted by the black stripes or shadow that fall on it.<br /> The model is young (blondness) and the bust represents old age.<br /> The model is a woman, the bust a man. </p> <p>The face... something about the face... upside down, an unnatural position... and the skin of the model... white... bluish purplish white... maybe the model is not sleeping there, maybe she is dead? And around her, the contrast of living plant... fruits (of life) on a plate (yet dead nature, in French nature morte...).</p> <p>Finally, my eyes moved back to the face. Let's look at it differently. You know those illusion games where in one profile you can see another profile? Look at the upside down profile of the nude model ignoring the body, now imagine those line represent an upright profile facing right. You will find the upright profile of a man. Reclining. With a very satisfied expression on his face. And below.. can you see it? The woman's thumb becomes... !!! </p> <p>Is it me who is obsessed or what? Yet I'm sure it`s not by chance that her thumb is sticking out like this. </p> <p>Anyway, on to today's outfit. </p> <p>Since the painting has both a carefree and a dark side, below are two outfits. </p> <p>In the first photo, how I had planned to dress according to the painting. (And as DH notes, "you're nude under your outfit!") I had planned to also wear my nude pencil skirt but the weather didn't cooperate.</p> <p>GREEN LEAVES on scarf, gift (shamrocks: they're not just for St. Patrick's Day any more!). You can't really see it, but this scarf also has the wide black stripe motif from the painting. And the leaf-green top underneath is from Talbots.</p> <p>BUST is the cameo brooch that I purchased specifically for this outfit and had overnighted from Amazon.com. Totally worth it because it just tickles me to death! Plus the lady in the cameo has the ponytail action of the lady in the painting, so she's a twofer! LOL (And also, I have a, you know, bust.)</p> <p>I wanted to add the red and orangey tones, so I have my red Dooney bag (I know it looks orange in the photo, but it's red) and my cognac Steve Madden pumps.
