I snapped my picture yesterday morning, but am only getting around to posting it now. I apologize for my tardiness! It was far too hot to keep the cardi on, but I'm including those pictures because for some reason the dress looks too green in the third photo.

It's especially interesting how people do it, whether hunting for something literal (like I did) or being inspired by it to go in a different direction. I'm having such fun!

You ladies are incredible! All outfits are inspired by the same painting but yet all have its own special flair. Wonderful! I think this challenge is a complete success!

Jenava, my wardrobe is full of blues, violets, whites - but almost no autumnal colors because they just make me washed out! So this was quite a challenge for me. Finally, I settled on the scarf which was the closest I had to the sombre tone of the painting.

I can't wait for the next challenge and hope even more ladies decide to join in!

heather: the blue flower pin is self made, while the apricot one I found lying around at home (I guess it's my sister's back from the eighties/early nineties).

This is so much fun to see all of yours interpretations! Am I too late to join in the fun?
I am afraid my interpretation is not very original with denim dress but that was the first thing which came to my mind for this picture. Instead of flowers with earthy background I went for brighter coral scarf - just because I feel like that!

OK! Here's mine! I wore a loose pale orange tee, a pale mushroom/gray suede vest with a cascading front, and a bright forest-green scarf which I draped around my neck. The scarf is sheer with a satin border and applique satin floral pattern. The pattern includes a tiny bit of dark reddish-orange and bright lemon yellow (both colors in the floral background of the picture), but is mostly white and grey. It is from the National Gallery in London and is made after the background of a Medieval painting.

I wore long, narrow pale distressed denim and muted olive green suede lace-up heeled booties.

What a fun thread! I went with the color tones in the original painting. I wore this to an outdoor college graduation ceremony. I was dressed very casually because it was threatening rain and I knew I'd be wearing a rain coat all day. It turned out to be a beautiful day and I ended up wishing that I had dressed up more. I felt comfortable in this combo but I wished that I had dressed better to honor the importance of the occasion.

I'm late to the thread as I just arrived home from work, but fortunately had time to snap some shots before I left this morning.

I was also inspired to create a denim-on-denim ensemble (chambray button down shirt and dressy denim pencil skirt.) Mainly, I was inspired by the touches of soft red and white in the background of the painting, so I tried to bring those colors in with my double strand of pearls, white watch, and burgundy pumps. If I hadn't had a formal meeting I would have wanted to add my brown pleather bomber jacket instead.
At first glance the pumps are pretty basic, but up close have a very pretty curvy/wavy pattern in the leather that kind of reminded me of the texture of the background of the painting.

I had a meeting this morning at work so added the black blazer for added professionalism, and rolled up the cuffs so that I could show off my watch. They aren't visible in today's post, but I'm also wearing Oroblu nude microfishnets.

The floral background reminded me of this cotton scarf (background in photo 1) and vintage necklace (#1). The leather strap bracelet (#1) kind of matched so I wore that too. Based on the blue the boy is wearing, I wore these J Brand Jeans along with a Rachel Roy jacket (photo #2). The wood of my house bears some of the same colors as the painting as well. I had fun! But struggled with the lighting today.

LOVE all of your outfits, they are wonderful! It's so cool to see all the different interpretations, and I love that they are all distinctly different yet clearly rooted in the artwork! Very inspiring.

Here is my take, much brighter than the muted colors of the painting. Each piece has a description and why I chose to wear it (copying your method, Heather ^^):

Dress - A faux-wrap with Grecian-styled draping on top, in a painterly medium-sized print of turquoisey-blue, navy, and white along with small bits of tan, charcoal and olive. It feels abstractly floral to me and echoes the many roses in the painting, as well as the boy's all blue outfit.

Belt - Muted red belt with double-layered brass grommets at my waist. This is the boy's rose garland, moved down from head to waist.

Cardigan - Bright tomato red cardigan with 3/4 length sleeves and not-quite-cropped length, left open and mainly added for warmth. Picking up on more of the roses' color; had I not needed the cardigan I'd have worn my red purse.

Boots - Below-the-knee marled brown slouchy boots (a rich warm brown with cognac tones) with buckle hardware and a wooden wedged heel. These pick up the painting's background warm oranges and browns. Wearing nude microfishnet tights as well.

Earrings - Brass stud-stud earrings to echo the metal in the belt grommets. Wanted something small since the subject is a boy.

Ring - Flower cocktail ring with two layers of light blue, crystal-like petals edged with gold. I wanted one literal flower element :)

Hair - Up in a high, fanned bun since the subject of the painting is a boy.

Purse - Creamy white bucket back with studded detailing. Picks up on the few white tones of the roses and helps keep the outfit looking springy.

Yay, how fun! I love seeing everyone's interpretations. Reading Ornela say " never in a million years would I come up with this had it not been for the challenge. Fun factor for me: 10/10" really made it worth the effort. This is what this is about!

'That 70's Painting'

I thought I would give the Boy with a Pipe a seventies groove. ;D

Blouse: Tucker for Target--The background of the blouse is cranberry and it is covered in flowers about 2 inches in diameter. The flowers are comprised of the colors pink, red, marigold, ivory and olive. It is flowy and buttons down. The elasticized collar is a crew neckline and the sleeves are 3/4 length and elasticized as well. The blouse is tucked into my flare leg denim.

Flare leg denim: Flying Tomato--The denim is very soft and thin and a medium to dark wash. The denim trousers sit on my hips and are PPL. There are two side pockets and two flap pockets on the rear that button (not pictured). There is a brown leather belt holding them up.

Belt: Abercrombie and Fitch. Brown leather belt that I have had and loved for a very long time. It has a silver oval metal medallion belt buckle that is 3.25"x2.5". It has delicate filigree etching.

Necklaces: There are three. One is vintage and is composed of silver rods and balls with olive asymmetrical bits of stone spaced evenly in between the bits of rods and balls. The other two necklaces are from PacSun (random, old school for sure). They are both wooden. One is olive and the other is sage.

Heels: American Eagle Outfitters: I am wearing 5 inch brown espadrilles.

My hair is in a bun on top of my head. In the last two photographs, I have on a camoflauge jacket. The sleeves are rolled up to my elbows.

Missing from my ensemble: the Peace Pipe. ;D

I'm playing but unfortunately my picture is not from today, I wore this repeat to duty at playgroup (25 under 5 year olds) so flat shoes and comfort was a priority. This shirt is probably too short for skinnies but it also boxy which I think helps a little with the proportions. Also the fabric looks as though it is pulling at the chest, this is not the case in real life. Thank you so much Bella for resurrecting this challenge. It has been fun.
