I'm late in replying to this thread because I wanted to wait until I was reading from a computer to see the colour properly. Loooooove #3, although #1 is a close second. I can't wait to see how this dress turns out!!!

Hey, thanks for the bump- I'm not usually around on the weekend and I wouldn't have wanted to miss this!

#3 is also my choice, though the blue (#1) looks stunning with your hair/skin. I love that shade on brunettes. The turquoise looks awesome with your multi-stand necklace, hopefully it will work with the finished dress!

I did a few Illustrator sketches last week, but it does sound like Tania has you sorted, design-wise. Sometimes (well, often) it's easier to work with someone local for these kind of things! I did have a couple very "Michelle" ideas (though one would work best in a knit fabrication) so I hope that one day I can make something for you!

One thought I definitely had- are you thinking of any particular sleeve detail? The dress I wore to my friends' wedding in October had a great one that I think might work for you. The sleeves were a longish short sleeve, a bit above elbow-length, and were a two-piece pattern. That means that instead of one seam connecting the sleeve under the arm, there are two, one at the lower front and one at the back- a lot like a tailored jacket. The back seam, instead of being closed, was open for the bottom 2-3 inches and cleanly lined/finished inside, creating a little vent. On Angie's suggestion, I added a little detail here- I had some covered buttons made with extra fabric and sewed them to the top of the vent.

The fabric you have might be a bit too drapey for this to work (especially if it isn't being lined), but it's a sweet retro detail that allows for ease of movement when in sleeves and provides interest to the back of a garment.

My first feeling was that the blue was the prettiest on you, #1.
I am now leaning towards #3 because it is much more calm and soothing on you.
I have always been a lover of emerald green so I gave that one some thought too.
In the end, they are all gorgeous, and I feel #3 is best but if it cannot be found the other 2 would be beautiful on you too.
Actually I think you need a couple of dresses and new tops made of these fabrics!! They are all so pretty. Tania really knows her colors doesn't she!

#1 would look outstanding on a cool-skinned blonde...which you are not. But I know you mentioned you were thinking mostly about the fabric. I don't know much about formal fabrics so I will leave that one to Ele.

I didn't get a chance to weigh in on the other thread but I think you're so smart to be doing a custom dress given your rash of special occasions! The blouse Tania made was so pretty on you.

Anyway: #3 as well for me! Though I do like the green on you too, #3 is the winner by a mile.

[The blue of #1 is pretty but looks too bright for your skin...though I wouldn't rule out incorporating it as an accent if things evolve that way.]

All the ladies who responded to my previous thread where I suggested designing a cocktail dress for the absurd number of weddings I have coming up already know that I was thrilled with their suggestions for help! For those who weren't in on it, people produced style prototypes, colour suggestions, style tips and even a voluntary offer to do up technical drawings! Can this community be topped? Didn't think so!

So I got the ball rolling today when I went to visit Tania (turns out I've been over-slavic-o-fying her name). She already had a few fabric samples there awaiting my tactile approval. The one she liked best was a sort of weighty, drapy silk, and I adored it right away. If she can find the right fabric in the right shade, that's what we're going to do (and yes, Angie, it will be lined).

The next task is selecting the exact colour, and here's where I'm going to enlist you. Below are three colour samples, and I'd love to have you rank them according to preference.

1. A fairly vivid blue, from what I understand (this is the fabric we're thinking of so far, though not necessarily in this colour):
http://eyeronic.files.wordpres.....tion-1.jpg

2. Green (everyone's least favourite so far, but speak up if you love it):
http://eyeronic.files.wordpres.....tion-2.jpg

3. Turquoise. Sorry the sample size is so much smaller (it's the part draped around my neck):
http://eyeronic.files.wordpres.....tion-3.jpg

For the record, both Corey and Tania have registered votes for the blue with turquoise a very close second.

Once we've collectively nailed down the colour, or at least given her a couple of options, I'm going to email her the verdict plus the prototype dress that Sandy found. Tania has a number of ideas of her own, including a slightly different silhouette for the skirt (still fairly straight, but with a little bit of asymmetry at the hem). She's also thinking of creating a deep neckline and adding touches of fine net (feels like tulle) in the same colour as the main fabric to add some texture. She's promised to email me some shots of what she's thinking so I can show them to you guys, but I did like what she showed me (she was wearing a skirt in the style she described, and she traced out the lines she's thinking of so I could feel them). Elbow sleeves and a tailored, waist-defining torso are absolutely on.

So, budding designers, fire away with your thoughts on these color samples and any other suggestions you have. If you hate it all, speak up. I'm listening to any and all input and super grateful for every word of it!!
