Skateboarding shoes have a wide, flat sole, and a tread that grips a little more than a regular shoe. They help you stick to &nbsp;the skateboard better. look at those shoes vs. converse. Ethan was over the moon to be part of the challenge, and he rose to it with enthusiasm! There is no possible way to put together ONE outfit that covers his rules, so I had to do more...</p> <p>Ethan's rules for dressing:<br /> 1. Always make sure it feels comfortable</p> <p>2. Wear all dark colors (i.e. dark jeans with red or grey) or all light colors together, but don't mix dark bottoms with light tops and vice versa except for white - "white can go in any outfit" (Angie's kindred spirit?)</p> <p>3. Always wear shoes that go with the outfit. The following are examples of shoes that "go with the outfit"<br /> a. Dark skinny jeans and white shirt should have grey converse, not white or light pink converse (although hot pink would be acceptable)<br /> b. White jeans with a grey or white top can be worn with white converse<br /> c. White converse can also be worn with colorful jeans<br /> d. Skateboarding shoes go with anything, no matter what color "even if you are a girl"</p> <p>4. Rules for skinny jeans:<br /> a. Don't wear really fancy shoes<br /> b. Wear just plain cons. They can be white, but not completely white - there should be colors with the white. (Red would do well.)<br /> c. Flip flops may be worn with dark skinny jeans.<br /> d. Don't wear a "skinny shirt" or shirts with super short sleeves. Shirts should be baggy or "normal", just not really "thin" (I think he meant tight).</p> <p>5. Rules for "baggy jeans"<br /> a. They do not look good with converse - "no matter what".<br /> b. They look good w/skateboarding shoes and tennis shoes.<br /> c. Lighter pants with lighter shoes.<br /> d. Dark baggy pants can have any color shoes except plain white.<br /> e. Light pants can be worn with light a colored t-shirt that is "regular sized" (not too tight or overly baggy)<br /> f. Dark pants can be worn with either a white shirt or a dark shirt, but the sleeves must end right at the elbow. (Ethan is as picky about sleeves lengths as Angie is about pant lengths!)</p> <p>6. Accessories<br /> a. If you're wearing a sweatshirt, scrunch the sleeves up just past the elbow and wear one bracelet on one arm (apparently more bracelets are too cumbersome if you get cold and need to put the sleeves down).<br /> b. If you're wearing short sleeves, it is cool to wear lots of bracelets, but you must wear about twice as many on the arm you don't write with (don't wear the same amount in each arm.)<br /> d. If you're wearing flip flops (flip flops "don't have to be all blingy") you should wear a "foot bracelet". (If you are left handed, your wear it on your left ankle.) "Foot bracelets actually look really cool!"</p> <p>There you go... Style according to an 11 year old boy. By the way, these are his actual rules for dressing himself. I enjoyed this because you gave me lots to think about. I don't think I had broken this down before in my mind, but I realize that I unconsciously do dress to play up my two favorites. I picked two because I had to... For me they are linked. My eyes and my hands. Input and output. </p> <p>I take the world in through my eyes. I love looking in other people's eyes. There is so much to see, and so much to show through the eyes. My husband once told me (when he was trying to console me because I was bemoaning my hyper sensitivity) that I am like an open camera lens. Instead of taking snapshots, my lens is stuck on open and I let everything in. I love that he explained me and just gave me permission to do what I do - and absorb those around me... mostly through my eyes. </p> <p>My hands are not beautiful, particularly as I age. They are starting to get a little gnarly and veiney, and often, if you look closely, you will see scars, scrapes, burns, blisters, bruises, ink stains or any other manner of proof that they are hard working and creative members of my body. They are the way that I communicate to the world, and give back to the ones that I love through writing, art work, or other forms of creativity. Most importantly, I use my hands to touch the people that I love.</p> <p>And so, thanks to Adorkable, I have discovered that I do actually dress to play up both my eyes and hands. As MuseumGal mentioned in her challenge, I tend to wear open necklines with no necklaces. I love this particular black dress so much because it has a deep V neckline in the front (as well as in the back) and I am so happy that my new shorter haircut allows my hair to be pushed back from my face. </p> <p>I also favor three quarter length sleeves. I feel that they are the most flattering and allow me to wear bracelets and/or rings - thus drawing attention to my hands (not something that I thought about before this challenge!). I don't ever wear fingernail polish, partly because I am too hard on my hands and it would never last, but also because I really do prefer to leave my hands as natural as possible. I felt that way even as a little girl (although I went through a very short lived dark nail polish phase in the early nineties).</p> <p>Thanks so much for this part of the challenge! I have a complicated relationship with this one. I will completely admit to feeling flattered when people are surprised to find I'm 41 years old, but I have also struggled all of my life with feeling that it's hard to be taken seriously. There is a part of me that really wants to fit into my age bracket... So this was a fun challenge. </p> <p>#1 - As you have requested, the first look is throwing caution totally to the wind. I have picked the one thing in my wardrobe that skews the youngest - short, no sleeves, hot pink. On top of that, I've styled it to be as young as possible. </p> <p>#2 - I styled the same dress to fit a little better into my comfort zone, although it still doesn't go in the direction that I am hoping to take my style these days.</p> <p>#3 - This is an outfit that I wore yesterday and felt wonderful in.
