Aha! March 30, 2010 Angie defines "false plains," which I just asked people to define for me! This is why I have been reading every post with a fine-tooth comb!

Right, Rabbit. I look at the "Must Have" lists each season and think, does that turn into "Must Edit" a few seasons down the pike?

I've been doing searches of the forum and blog when I have a fashion-related question, and it's really interesting how several poster's style has changed too.

It makes me wonder how long something actually lasts when we 'buy for permanence' rather than at a more mid-range price point (taking into account discounts/sales as well - I consider buying very discounted items that were originally marked higher as mid-range buying). At every Goodwill are rows and rows of leather women's shoes, that fell out of style before they ran out of wear.

I feel like there are processes of expansion: trying new things, expanding options, accumulating a wardrobe, and processes of contraction: winnowing down to one cohesive look from the options in the closet. I can see that during a contraction phase buying fewer things but often at a higher price point (because you are being very selective to fill a very specific wardrobe hole, and get more mileage out of each new acquisition) makes sense. But I'm not sure that it really makes sense, for me at least, at the expansion and experimentation stage. Especially if my cost per wear goal is under $1.

It is fun to watch Angie's personal style changing. I remember the first "picture of Angie" post showing a photo of herself (the old blog interface featured a drawing of Angie walking Jasmine and Rosie rather than photos.)

Maybe you should read in reverse order? Then you'd have a sense of when things had gone from current advice to more of a historic reference.

I did not have to do that with YLF because I found it very early in its existence (lucky me!), but definitely have done that with new blogs I really like. It's fun!

I have been rereading a lot of Angie's posts lately. I have read her blog for years. There is so much wisdom and I am paying more attention when rereading old blog posts. I did a Google search on how to build a capsule for warm climates and one of the top results was this post from August 2012. I remember reading it then -- great stuff and fits my lifestyle!

Well it's been a history lesson on American and global fashion since 2006. And it's been fun to see how Angie's evolved in her accepting skinnies and mixing metals for example. But I would like to be in the current year soon!

But even over the years Angie has changed some of her advice to reflect currents trends. I'm not sure of the benefit of reading everything.

I am chuckling. I did something similar -- but I was less systematic. In fact I went at it quite haphazardly -- but in my own peculiar way, I read almost every blog post before I joined the forum.

I kept peeking at the forum (in those days you could see photos if you were not a member) and I could not make head nor tail of it!! But finally I saw a thread that really made snap to attention -- it was a plea for help from a very stylish member who is blind -- and I saw the character of the people in this group, their kindness, sensitivity, and intelligence. And that's when I joined the forum.

For a while my blog reading remained scattershot -- i read it every day or almost every day, but not necessarily that day's blog entry! Now I am "up to date" and follow along, and I must say, it is extremely helpful to be able to do that.

I have been reading Angie's blog since Day 1 for the past several months. I'm only up to Feb. 2010. Has anyone else done this? Has fashion changed much since 2010? I keep plugging away trying to catch up to today and just wonder if anyone else out there has done the same?
