For that kind of urban hiking (on asphalt as opposed to hiking in the woods), I always wear my Privos. They work with socks or without.

Brianna, unfortunately, I can't picture the Eccos with socks and I don't think it would be wise for me to do that much walking without socks. Converse (I've been told) aren't to be worn with clams or shorts at my age. Unfortunately, for me cons are not comfy enough, even with an insole, to do that much walking.

I agree with everyone else, although if you could afford the Ecco skimmers I'd totally go for those above the Merrils (I love the yellow ones). Are Cons really not comfy enough if you wore them with an insole?

No worries, Maya!! You make complete sense and I didn't take your post to be too harsh at all.

I'm planning to wear walking shorts/clam diggers and knit or mesh sweet pea style tops so hopefully my shoes will be the only thing that I wouldn't wear at home on an excursion out and about on a regular basis.

Oh, I would never encourage that Dani! But like Merry said, wearing clothes that actually fit will keep you miles above the rest from the get-go. Some well-fitting jeans, knit tops (ideally sleeveless), a stylish bag for all your stuff, and some shoes like the ones Kendra wore, and you'll be right where you need to be.

I re-read my post and I suppose I spoke more harshly than I meant to: definitely don't chuck fashion all together and look like a slob, I just meant you might have to dress down a lot from what you're used to. As long as you look put-together, clean, and well-groomed (which I know you will), you'll look great. You may not be fashionable, but you'll be stylish. Does that make sense?

Another one here saying go with trainers. Comfort is of utmost importance on an excursion like Disney. And for the style quotient, if you are wearing clothes that actually fit you, you will be better dressed than at least half the people there If the rest of your outfit is fab, you'll be far ahead of the rest.

Like Maya said, you can switch to something nicer for dinner in the evenings or any side excursions you might take during the trip.

Thanks guys. Maya, I will wear socks (very low cut ankle socks) with the second one's I posted where they completely didn't work with the very first pair. I can walk for miles in Merrells.

Thanks for the perspective check! This really is a time to be concerned about gear and proper footwear. I don't think I'll be chucking all my fashion sense out the window, but I didn't want to end up on one of those do's and don'ts websites either. I'm definitely not going to be wearing a fanny pack!!! My next goal is to find a bag that will allow me to haul stuff and ride rides without succumbing to the dreaded fanny pack.

I actually don't see much of a difference between the first shoes you posted and the second two. Wouldn't you be wearing all of them without socks?

I'd just wear sneakers. It's Disneyland, an amusement park, so I don't think the style quotient is going to be all that high. You're going to be doing lots of walking and activities, which tells me now is not the time to be concerned with style. It's like working out--you need to wear the right gear.

Don't ruin your trip with blisters and painful shoes. Sometimes fashion is an inconvenience (sorry Angie!). I think Kendra has the right idea with the shoes she chose. They're not overly athletic but not as nonfunctional as Cons, and you can still probably keep the rest of your outfit looking cute and casual without having to resort to sweats. You might get a chance to wear something nicer in the evening, out to dinner perhaps.

I would also just go with function and just wear trainers, but maybe to make yourself feel better buy a new pair of trainers that are a little more stylish than basic running shoes but still have alot of support.

I actually wore trainers the whole time in Disneyworld and was glad I did. No one could care less what I was wearing there and I HAD to be comfortable to last all day.

We seriously walked for 10+ hours a day. I had to have my socks, orthotics and gear shoes---(sorry YLF!) to keep up with my teens!

Even my stylish teen daughters wore cute trainers.

I obsessed over this before the trip and was glad I went with function once I got there.

Ok, I promise to get my mind onto other things besides shoes! I have a problem...I'm going to Disney and will be walking all over creation and am looking for a shoe to look decently fashionable but still be comfortable. I have these:

http://www.onlineshoes.com/pro.....cid=142117

I love Merrells for the comfort factor and I didn't think these were too bad but then I started to consider walking for hours on end in these shoes without socks and started to have nightmares about possible blisters and other problems.

Should I throw fashion out the window (somewhat) and go with something like these:

http://www.onlineshoes.com/pro.....cid=132965

http://www.onlineshoes.com/pro.....cid=132871
