Oh can I relate to your feeling of being left out of many fashion options due to size. I am in between "plus" and "average" sizes and have yet to figure out what any of that means. I do like to shop at the gap because of their size options. The Kut in a 16 is sized down compared to a gap 16 sadly. No consistently at all in the marketplace.
Plus, not every style is right for everyone. I have figured out that the BF is not right for me. I am more confident in a slimmer leg myself and content with rolling a straight leg jean to get a variation on the look. Big pants make me feel just ....big. Not what I normally want to rock right?

On another topic - I love your blouse! You have a nice flair and can work so many styles that choosing a few to opt out of shouldn't cause stress or grief. Hang in there on the shopping front!

Oh Chrizzle, big hugs! I've seen some of your WIW's and think you have a fab style and looks and you shouldn't be ashamed of your body at all! The Catherines I linked to do come in size 16's. But I understand what you're saying and I wasn't trying to make you feel bad at all, I'm so sorry! Don't give up on fashion because you've got style in spades!

The problem with shopping around for other styles and brands is that I wear a size 16 or 18 and most of the jeans brands I like do not deign to carry my size in store. I'm getting pretty tired of having to order everything online, in multiple sizes and washes. It's expensive and time-consuming and my life is busy and stressful enough as it is. (Should get back to work now, in fact, so I probably won't check in again until much later.)

I'm feeling like a second-class citizen in the fashion world because I've gained weight. I do want to drop some pounds, but even when I have gone through phases of eating very little and exercising a lot for months at a time, the smallest I have been as an adult is a size 12 (the size I look and feel best at, IMO). I'm beginning to feel like my newly restored interest in fashion is depressing me by making me feel ashamed of my body, and shame has never worked for me as motivation to get healthier. Perhaps I need to step away from shopping for fashionable clothes for a while and focus on stuff I like about myself.

I agree with everyone, I think you definitely can wear boyfriend jeans, but I'm totally with you in preferring a slimmer fit and more butt definition myself (so what if that makes them more of a girlfriend jean!)

Have you looked at the Kut from the Kloth Catherine slim boyfriend jeans? I ordered this darker wash:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ku.....tback=1284
I haven't received it yet, but it looks like it would be more my style than the baggy Gap ones.
The lighter wash is also on sale and is the one that Sveta has:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ku.....sultback=0

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments! Vicki, they are Gap Sexy Boyfriends, with the pocket flap. I believe they would look better lower on my hips, but I think I'll be returning these without trying other styling variations. The fit looks ok from the front, but it's really unflattering in the back. I have a somewhat flat butt to begin with and these make that worse. I'm not comfortable with the amount of whiskering. I agree with Beth Ann that something about it is distracting. They would look much better if I had them tapered below the knee, but I'd like to try another brand that's already more tapered.

I think we're all kind of on the same wave length that you can positively wear BF jeans, but these need tweaking.

If these are a Keep/return, I'd probably suggest return and try another brand/size.

If you own these, I'd loosen the belt (or get a longer belt)t so they don't bunch up (see next to the zipper in #2) and can sit lower on your hips. I'd taper the leg (beginning around the knee?) so the calf fit is almost, but not quite, fitted.

I like where they are rolled up to, I just think the bottom part and rolls need to graze your calf circumference . . .

I'm with Jeanne and Shannon -- bigger belt, maybe even a size up, but a style with more tapered legs. I would also look forward a more even wash -- something about the whiskering and uneven color is a little disracting to my eye. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding an alternative in the stores myself.

Don't think you can't wear this trend, though! You absolutely can!

I think you can absolutely wear BF's - like Rae, I suggest sizing up so they sit lower on your hips. I bought two pairs in my regular size and a size up and I much prefer the larger size. Because I have short legs though I will be taking them to my seamstress (a.k.a. Wonder Woman) to shorten the legs and then taper them from the knee down so they aren't so wide. This might work for you as well.

I agree with Rae's assessment, just not quite the right pair/style/size. I think you need a slightly slimmer or tapered leg and for them to sit a little lower on waist. .

Based on these photos I think you can wear a boyfriend cut jean. I think these may be rolled to high? What happens if you unroll them once? I do agree that they are meant to sit lower on the hips.

I think maybe size up and try the petite length. These are sitting up too high on your waist to my eye, and I agree with your assessment that the leg openings are too wide. My "sweet spot" for boyfriends hare falling off the lowest part of the hip and hugging the calf. I don't think you should give up, though!

I think this style would work for you Chrizzie. These jeans look best to me in pic 3 where they are a little shorter. Somehow they are not showing much taper when longer in the first pics, and they appear to be a little wider in the lower leg than others I have seen.
Maybe you need to size down or try another brand?

I don't think these work for me. I've worn boyfriend-style jeans all my life, but perhaps I no longer have the right kind of looks/body to carry them off. Pics 1 & 2 show them the way they came, pic 3 shows them rolled one more time. I think the hems are too wide in 1-2, but not sure I like 3 either.

Had to cinch the belt a bit too tight, because I didn't have time to look for a bigger belt. Should I try them again styled differently (lower on hips, different shoes, different top, rolled more)? Or are these just a no for me? Tell me the truth - I can take it!

Edited to add: These are Gap Sexy Boyfriend flap-pocket jeans. The leg openings are much wider on me than they appear on the model:
