These are both excellent choices IMHO! I just bought two pairs of jeans myself, a skinny (Hudson Collette from NAS) and a slouchy BF-ish pair (COH Emerson). I think both are current and more importantly it seems like all styles are in at the moment so you should wear whatever you love.

Suz, high five! I guess we both have good jeans taste...and similar body shapes, too, I think. I'm so happy to hear your raves about those jeans. My Racers are about the same tightness on me (wrinkle at the ankle, wrinkle at the knee). My Dres fit just like yours, too -- not baggy, but a little loose. Good to hear they ease up a little more, even. I actually like giant rear pockets because I've got a small derriere, so anything that makes it look bigger and rounder is welcome.

Okay, first of all, you have awesome taste in jeans!

Disclosure -- both those pairs that you show are currently my favourite jeans. Like, EVER.

I got the Racers on sale in the winter and just adore them. Like you, I sized up (by one size) and they are definitely a skinny but not a flesh sucking skinny. Love them. The comfort is unmatched. Mine are a different wash -- the Patina. It's a sort of mid-wash, very versatile. Not long ago I rolled them BF style for a YLF mini-meet on an unexpectedly cool night. I felt like the voluminous top needed a skinny so that's what I did.

I also adore the Dres. I have them in the Bradford wash. They are plenty BF on me after five minutes of sitting. Not super crazy baggy, but no one will mistake them for skinnies.

The problem some people have is with the pockets. They're huge. For some, this creates an unflattering rear view. I don't know what it is about me, but when I put them on, the YLF crowd in Boston (where I bought them) all crowed about how fabulous they looked on the rear side. No joke! This is what we do to amuse ourselves on meet ups. Buy clothes, try them on, and rave about them. :)

I think maybe they work best for women with relatively narrow hips, where the fit is already on the loose side. If you wear them more snug, they might be unflattering. I don't actually worry much about the rear view anyway, but nobody has made a negative comment about them, including Mr. Suz. So I take it they work on my shape very well. To me, the large pockets are precisely what gives that slouchy boyfriend look. But they have to be a bit slouchy to achieve that. Not super baggy. Just...easy. You know? And for some body types I think that is tough to get in denim, period.

1. Racers rolled.
2. Racers full length.
3. Dres rolled.
4. Dres full length (actually, I turned them under a wee bit there...I didn't bother to hem because I sometimes like wearing them with a visible cuff at full length -- it's a nice option. (I am 5'4")

Rae, the Racers work well on my body. Out of curiosity, why do people have problems with R&B with the rear view?

Mo, that's what I'm thinking. It's hard to let go of a pant that fits well and looks good, especially since jeans shopping can be such a challenging endeavour sometimes. It's just that I had assumed I would come home with a more typical pair of boyfriend jeans -- the loose kind that look like they're going to fall off without a belt -- but I tried on a bunch of pairs of those and didn't love any of them. Do you think "boyfriend skinnies" count as boyfriend jeans?

The Racers have been amazing on so many people! They were a super best seller - if they work for you, I love them to death. The R&B have been more problematic for people in the back view.

Ultimately I think it's up to you if you want a more slim or a more loose jean right now. The BF trend has become saturated enough that it is not Fringe fashion anymore; I think both are completely current.

Pic #1 doesn't show. I'm not quite sure as to your question . . . do you mean should you follow current trends more? I think if you love the fit of a pant, go with it!

Sorry about yet another post on the topic of jeans. :-)

These are the pairs that came home with me (but the tags are still on):

#1: Citizens of Humanity Racer low rise skinny in Renegade wash. I am finally getting on the distressed jeans bandwagon. In fact, distressed clothing seems to be everywhere at the moment -- it's not just jeans. I like these ones because the shredded bits are small, and the thigh holes are patched from the reverse side. So you get the slightly grungy look without the fear that your (@#&%ing expensive!) jeans will fall apart after two washes.

I know I said I was going to buy jeans in a more current silhouette (i.e. higher rise, looser leg) but dang it, these jeans just looked so good on that I couldn't resist. They are not quite so tight on me as on the model -- I sized up -- but they are still, unquestionably, skinny jeans. I feel like the distressing is a nod to the upcoming trends, even though the low rise and skinny silhouette has been mainstream for many seasons.

#2 Rag & Bone "The Dre" slim boyfriend jean in Bradford wash. These are definitely looser in the leg, although they still taper toward the bottom. They are not cropped on me. Even rolled up, they go right to my ankle. This is not unwelcome, though, since it means I can wear them with flats and not look stumpy. They fit really well and I like the colour and fading. They are more of a mid-rise on me than on the model, but the rise is not so high that it is unflattering.

What do you think? My main question is that I'm wondering if I should hold out for looser, more "boyfriendy" boyfriend jeans -- but these R&B "slim boyfriends" really do look good and are very comfortable. It's hard to take a pair of jeans back when they fit so well.
