The only gear items I have are truly stuff that I wear to the gym or for outdoor running, so no, none of mine would cross into my everyday wear.

This jacket doesn't look "gearish" (is that a word?) to me at all and the colour is just amazing on you. I say wear it and love it!

Thanks, everyone! It is nice to be sure that I'm not ruining my fashin cred. I did have to expand my idea of sports to see my own sporty side. I used to think of the "sporty" look as tennis shorts, sneakers, wrist bands, and sweatshirt material.

I see very a very fashionable and on trend Rae. Thumbs up from me. I do like the sporty element for you and your lifestyle.
As for me, well, I don't own any gearish stuff, other than sweats and yoga pants, which are my stay home clothes. Walking around NYC is my workout and I guess I do it in heels ( or boots!)

Yes, this looks more like "the sporty trend" to me than just wearing gear on the street. That jacket is cut so beautifully, you had me drooling over it yesterday when you provided a link. Love it, wear it, but I doubt you'll wear it out any time soon. Enjoy, because you look so fab in it!

Told you, you had a sporty streak to your style :)

To my eye - the blue parka looks fashionable enough NOT to represent gear. The Zella toppers often do too. Even stuff at Lulu Lemon. You look fab, and actually quite on trend - a nod to the Sporty Trend!

No to your question for my own style, but I have clients - often casual SAHMs - who wear stuff from those retailers daily.

Awww Suz i love your examples!

I don't see anything wrong with the jacket Rae. If you love it, rock it. I wear my favorites over and over too. I have a pair of purple leopard print skinny jeans, bought this winter, that i've been wearing to death!

I'm trying to think if i have any gear in my closet...i started going to a gym in November...i wear it around the house but not out. But a jacket is much different than a pair of workout pants lol.

Those $200 and $300 plus Ash wedge and $500 and $600 plus Golden Goose and Isabel Marant sneakers come to mind, too as "gear-ish" being even high fashion in the year of the gear.

Rae - I love the jacket. The color is beautiful and just sings against your goregous skin. I agree with the others that it doesn't readily read as gear to me, which is why I think it works so well with your outfit. I have a few yoga and running tops that I have worn in instances other than a workout. For example, last summer, I paired a silver shimmer yoga top with a pair of dark jeans, heels and cropped blazer for date night with the hubby.

I think that gear these days is being designed to be "cute/stylish" as well as functional which aids in in transitioning to everyday life and looks.

This looks great, Rae!

I think more and more we see gear that can potentially work as street-wear for those with the right style. Typically you'd need to combine it with other pieces, as you've gone here.

I wear my red puffer vest as gear and as streetwear. It's from Land's End.

My puffer coat is made by a gear label (Lole, out of Montreal). It has gearish details, like the hand warmer cuffs, the number and placement of pockets, the type of coat hook it includes. But I like it anyway -- or maybe because of that. It's super practical. And genuinely, as opposed to notionally, warm.

I must have missed the post where you bought this one! Looks good. I actually just tried this jacket on in black yesterday. I would use it exclusively as gear, for running in the cold, but DH did point out that it looked really good as just a jacket. I think LLL makes a lot of gear that's very easy to cross over to normal wear.

I don't think that jacket looks gear-ish so much as sporty, actually --- which is very on-trend, I gather!

My sole pair of booties have certainly been voted gear-ish on the forum. But I'm rather fond of them and still wear them plenty---with tights and tunics, with jeans and trousers, with skirts. They've been a sole-saver this winter, when I've been avoiding heels as well as buckles and laces.

I actually bought a red jacket recently, one that is sold as workout gear and LOOKS it (the kind you see team blazons and advertisers' logos on all over sports events), but it's been first too warm and then too cold for it this year! There's also my navy and red anorak that comes out when it's cold and misty/drizzly --- definitely also in the gear category rather than just sporty.

That jacket is too cute to be just relegated to hear status! I wear my puffer on cold days. It's not a particularly fashionable jacket, but it's not too bad either.

That's why I bought my jacket even though it's summer. I knew when winter came I wouldn't be able to find what I wanted. Although it does come from a fashion label so I can say it isn't really gear:) I hope I love it as much as you love yours.

I think if the aesthetic appeals to you there is no reason to use a clothing item only for it's intended use. I love the slimming effect of most running tops and jackets. There was a zip up yoga cardigan I bought 3 years ago and I wear it over tank tops during the summer because I loved the look. I say do you -- it looks cute.

Most of my gear is technical and sport specific. Hiking boots are permanently caked with mud, so not a good look, but it is common in Seattle. Rain and ski pants aren't really good for everyday wear.

You're probably sick of seeing this jacket already, but I'm in the throws of this season's jacket love affair. I wore this outfit to one of DH's favorite swap meets yesterday (not a good clothing deal to be had for me, sadly) and wore the exact outfit with a navy sweater instead of the citron today. DH was very pleased with this look!

Suz recently discussed how she will wear certain favorites over and over during the season, and I know I tend to work the same way. Last year, I could not get enough of my fishtail parkas, but it's been too cold for them this year. This year, it's the Zella and the new blue Lulu. I guess I am feeling sporty for '12-'13, because both these jackets were designed as workout gear.

Do you have any gear that crosses over into your daily wear? I know it's generally frowned upon here, but I can't help it.
