Hello all!! Got back into town and it's been utterly nonstop and chaotic. Anyway...

Thank you all for such insightful and helpful comments!! It seems the majority of you love them for me. A few of you pointed out you don't love them on me and why.

My top concerns after reading all your comments is the sizing and the fabric. And honestly, that is why I'm most unsure about myself. Surprisingly, I misread the label and it does contain 1% spandex. Nevertheless, they're still very stiff. It feels like I"m wearing a pair of heavy, stiff curtains. I don't know if sizing up will mitigate that.

As for shoes, I actually don't mind wearing bottoms with heels. It's more the stiff fabric and snug fit and sizing. These are actually my usual size in City Chic, but they're more snug than usual. That could be due to the fabric, as Angie and others pointed out.

I sooo want to wear flares/bootcut pants, but I don't know if these are MY pair. Even for denim, I need something with a bit more flow and less stiffness.

Instead of flares, I'm thinking of harem pants or another pair of drapey wide leg pants, photos 1 and 2. I'm also considering knit jersey flares, photo 3, in a heavyweight jersey/ponte.

I am sorry but I agree with Jenni. You don’t look comfortable which could be due to tightness but I think more likely because it isn’t really your style. This is the first photo I have seen of you where you don’t look absolutely stunning.

Hi Ket, missed you! So glad your boy is better now.
I’m sorry, I’m being a “spanner” (in the works), as Angie puts it, about these. I think they look too tight, and I realise they are not styled here, but I don’t think they look Glam. Only one opinion, but I am voting Nay.
I think you have plenty of other options where you DO look Glam.

You've gotten great feedback on the flares and I'll just echo comments about perhaps trying a size up and considering the shoe implications. If those check for you then why not try these and see? They are a different look for you but that can be a great thing and since you're intrigued there is something to explore there.

So sorry about your son and so glad that he's recovered. Very scary and stressful

I love the flares on you, Ket. My only question is whether the fabric is comfortable. You mention that they are stiff, and I can see some stiffness in the way they hang. They look super fab, so if they feel good, I'd vote keep. After you've washed them a few times, you can see whether you need to hem them to go with the heels you want to wear.

And gosh, what a scary ordeal with your son. I'm so glad he's all better, thanks to your quick response and the doctors' expertise.

I love the way the curves of the jeans echo your curves in a flattering way. The style looks great on you IMO. If they don’t feel comfortable (ie if you will put them on and then take them off again!) play around with sizing. But overall style is on point.
Glad all is well with the dental situation. Scary!

Wondering if the size is right. They look a little snug up top, but might be dead right if they stretch out a little. In fact, I think that might be the case. You're the best judge of that so let us know. Perfect length on statuesque you!!

Welcome back, Ket. So sorry to hear about your boy--how old? Tooth stuff is incredibly scary, and I know others who have had similar problems. And when I had my wisdom teeth out, they messed up on the recuperation and I could barely hold my head up until they found out what was wrong. Glad it was taken care of.

Fun pants, I, too, am wanting to try new silhouettes. I think the interesting thing about flares/bells is that they look great on straight bodies and curvy bodies, but very different on each. I don't think you look wide in them, but I do think they would look better with a shirt like what the model is wearing, something like a bodysuit.

Bellbottoms are a great silhouette for curvy women--look at Selena on stage, or Dolly Parton in the Seventies.

Coming from a fan of flares, I think this style is really super on you and does play into your 70s boho/glam leanings very well!

How do they feel? I would spend an hour or two in them around the house to make sure they do give a bit. They look a little snug across the hip to my eye, but that’s a fit area I’m very sensitive to, just out of my own bias. I’d make sure they’re comfortable to sit in for a while. That’s often the big test on fitted jeans and pants with no stretch.

I’m sorry your son (and you!) went through all that, but so glad it was caught quickly and he’s ok now. How frightening!

Firstly, this is a quick try-on before we leave town for the weekend. I didn’t realize my blouse was askew on my shoulders.

I am surprised at how HUGE these City Chic flares are! They’re bellbottoms imo. The sales photo showed a moderate flare. Maybe it’s my tiny ankles? The flares are giant-wide IRL!

I actually don’t hate them, which surprises me. I don’t know if I adore them. And yet… I’m intrigued by them nonetheless.

1. Denim is stiff, mid to heavyweight with no stretch/elastane/Lycra.
2. They’re a bit snug in the rear, but I feel that’s partially due to the stiff denim. My woven pants all stretch and give after a wear.
3. They will require heels for ease of walking alone. Period. I’m okay with that. Except for college 25 years ago, I’ve never worn flares or bootcuts with sneakers and rarely with flats. I had to go up on my toes for photos so the fabric didn’t pool.
4. One theme for my autumn/winter wardrobe this year is Glam 70s. These do fit that, especially with my new satin pussy blouses and 70s-esque sweater knits.
5. Do I look wide and huge in them??? I feel like I have legs for miles AND wide and huge in them all at the same time.
6. Are they even me or just too retro?

Would love your feedback! Can workshop them when we get back. So let me know if you need more outfits to decide.

Sorry I haven’t been around much. We have had a very busy summer. Family visiting for two weeks. Lots of projects. And then… Our son ended up in the ER on Father’s Day. A filled baby tooth become infected (rare and unusual as the tooth was filled in January). The infection spread to his cheek tissue overnight. Woke up and his cheek was 4x its normal size. Dentist immediately sent us to Children’s Hospital ER. Thankfully we got in just before it spread to his eye or went septic. It was incredibly scary. In addition to the pediatric team, they have DMD (dentist MDs) on call and I’m so grateful. They extracted the molar, flushed out tons and tons of pus, and then he had a large round of IV antibiotics. Sent us home with more antibiotics for the week. He’s healed up beautifully and is back to normal this week. Only 7 weeks until school starts again… what a summer. :}
