I am going to go ahead and order the floral one online. Even with shipping, I figured out something with a coupon code that will end up saving me a few bucks. (Plus I have to admit I find the SAs at my WHBM kind of scarily insistent so I'd rather not go back to the store, LOL.)

Junebug, it's actually the back neck piece that is too wide. It's hard to tell in the photos b/c I had a hard time taking a photo of my back! I could either lift the shoulders or just move the button over a bit to fix it. I am actually wearing a regular bra in the photo and it does not show at all, which is another plus for this dress. I actually love the cutout back shape but usually they are too droopy and show my bra. The online reviews actually suggest that this particular dress runs small in the rib cage, which I agree with (since I had to go up a size).

I know everyone seems to like the white one... I'm still not in love with it though. It just seems very white and kind of too stiff/wide in the skirt part. I think I like more drape.
Diana I'm not too crazy about the cut of the red lace dress, but as for the neckline being too high, it doesn't seem to be a problem as it's lace and doesn't look crowded or heavy.

In the patterned White house, Black market dress what do you mean by the back being too big? Is it ill-fittingly big or just to wide? This sort of a design on the back seems to be a continuing trend from last year and I have a dress like that and I find it annoying because my bra strap (the main bottom one) is visible after a few hours of sitting down and then standing up. Also it leaves a gaping hole sometimes..I would think this back on a dress is perfect for someone who doesn't need to wear a bra at all!

For the black and white dress is #6-#7, the dress is gorgeous! It also seems to fit you perfectly and is very flattering! I would think you could wear this for a wedding but with a cover up of some sort so that you don't appear too white! It's just that the dress is so pretty on you!

I sort of like the last dress but the cowl portion seems to have it's own separate existence! I don't think you should get it!

OK, the floral one just went on major sale (from 180 to 80). I agree with the above comments that it's too casual for the rehearsal dinner but do you think I should get it for the day-after brunch and luncheon? (This would be the garden-party style event).
Interesting. There are yay votes for all four of these, and not-so-enthusiastic votes for all of them too. I guess none of these is a runaway hit the way the wedding dress was, but a couple of them might make good backup options...

Anyway I just found the coral hi-lo dress I posted above in my size at NM (where it costs more but oh well) so I think I'm going to order it to try.

My top fave is the black/white one. Love that A-line silhouette on you. In my neck of the woods, though, it would be too much white to wear as a wedding guest. But those ideas are regional and you know what's appropriate in your area.

I'm not feeling the all-over red lace one. It makes me think of Miss Kitty in Gunsmoke. The floral one seems too sweet for your style. The length of the last dress makes it seem more like a happy hour dress than a cocktail party dress to me.

After a little alteration, I love the black and white dress, and see no reason why you couldn't wear it to a wedding!

I find the orange and the blue dress a tad short - especially when you sit down. The second floral dress is very pretty - but casual. So it would need a casual event.
Hmm, OK, it sounds like none of these is the one. I agree that the floral one is OK, but I'm not excited by it. I will keep an eye out for the blue/black one in a larger size.

Suz, someone else (not me) has actually asked on the website whether they are getting more of that coral dress, and the answer was no.. but I know returns always keep coming in. I think it's actually the same cut as the white dress from Angie's picks last week, only in chiffon rather than jersey (so dressier.)

There is also this one, which is also not available in my size. Angie told me to try Tadashi Shoji dresses, unfortunately most of them are black.
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/t-.....origin=sho

ETA: C1, I did check out Anthro but I didn't see either of those dresses and I didn't find any that wowed me.

Suz, I think you've put your finger on something that has been bothering me with the dress search. It's that fit-and-flare styles (like the 2 WHBM ones) fit me well and look conventionally flattering, yet I'm just not excited by them. I don't know why. I think this is why I keep trying on things that fit poorly because they have straighter skirts. The styles (like the last one) are just so much more interesting to me. Now I'm also not really interested in your typical sheath or wiggle dress, but I like drapey things with straight skirts, apparently.
I am not wild about the lace dress, but it's a bit hard to say for sure because of the photo angle and missing your pretty face. Plus the lack of shoes. If it felt good (or you felt good in it) it might be worth another look and try on, especially if you can think of future uses. I can see lace working well with your overall style.

#2 is figure flattering, yet I am not personally drawn to it. It feels very girlish or even twee. I know you are able to do a bit of that and incorporate it well into your eclectic outfits. But with a stand-alone dress, I'm not sure. It also seems a bit more like a garden party dress than a cocktail type level of formality, but the fabrication may make it more formal than it seems from the pic.

#3 is va-va voom and seems like a sundress to me. It is very pretty but I am not sure I would wear it to a wedding.

#4 I like the idea of this one more, although the fit is off, as you say. The colour is beautiful and the cut seems more sophisticated. I don't know about the cowl, though. Maybe seeing it in your actual size would help.

Hmmm. This doesn't sound like ringing endorsement from me, does it. I apologize. I just know how great you can look and feel as if none of these is quite meeting that mark.

Definitely #3-5 for the garden party event! That dress is SO flattering on you, and I love the back keyhole. I also like dress #6-7 for a more cocktail type event; again, very flattering. While I love lace dresses, I don't think dress #1-2 is fab enough for you because it doesn't show off your shape.

Here are some dresses I tried on today. Are any of them worth going back for? Just as a reminder, these would be for wedding-related events - I am going for cocktail-ish level formality. (There is also one other event that would require a more garden-party type dress).

First (photos 1-2) is a red lace dress from Zara. This is one size smaller than my normal zara size (which they did not have in the store). It fits OK, surprisingly, although the sleeves are a little tight. I'd order it in my regular size if it's a yay. This requires a strapless bra. I'm not sure I like this neckline on me, although since it's lace it might be better than a normal high neckline.

Second (3-5) is a floral dress from white house | black market. Fit is good, although the back neck is too big. (Size down looked good but I couldn't breathe). I think I could fix the neck by moving the button though.
http://www.whitehouseblackmark.....=570070490=

Third (6-7) is another dress from WH | BM. Also too big at the back neck. According to the SA, this is a super common problem with their dresses, but she showed me that taking up the shoulders would fix it. Question: could I wear this as a wedding guest? It's not too white, is it? I would not want to only be able to wear it once. I'm not sure I like the waist sash but it is removable.
http://www.whitehouseblackmark.....=570075444=

Last (8-11) is a dress that arrived today from Last call. It is too tight at the hips so is definitely going back, but I'm wondering if it is worth tracking down a larger size. What do you think of the style? A larger size would hang better and would be longer since it wouldn't get stuck over my hips. The cowl neck sticks out a lot - is that weird?
