I love those dresses on you especially the first one! I love bold geometric prints!

The skirt I think would look better if the slip were the same length--the half slip makes it look like you accidentally wore a too-short slip underneath.

Thank you all for your great input! Yes, I am now sure - this skirt is heading to the tailor. I am thinking of making it into a midi and changing the slip full length, different shade.

@Meredith, @Mellllls, @Morethanbeige, @Sveta, thank you for the compliments!

@Joy, I am afraid I can't return it; it was from a small boutique and their return policy is stricter. Also, I have worn it already a couple of times. But I am happy to tailor it.

@Angie, thank you for chiming in. I,ll tell my DH he got a 10 on his choices from you!

@Christieanne, this is a good idea, but it would be such a pitty to loose so much of the pretty fabric! I will try midi length first, and if that doesn't work, then I'll go shorter. But thank you for the suggestion, I keep it in mind.

@Diana, you pinpointed the problem. The white slip is supposed to be "cool"; ends up being gauche. And yes, a long slip. If the tailor asks me for too much money, that's what I'll do. Thank you for the idea.

@Teeandcee, two great suggestions here. High-low: something to discuss with the tailor. Also different footwear is to be explored.

@Midwest Girl, thank you for seconding me in the white tunic choice... I think it will be very pretty with a midi.

@Deborah, @Jjsloane, @Kiwichick, thank you for your frank and honest opinion. Much appreciated, and very helpful too!

@Suz, that's it. With warmer temperatures blowing this way, I wanted to fulfil a little girl's dream of being free-in-the-wind, artsy, romantic... (I was a little girl in the 70's). DH has his feet on the ground and knows I'll be busy teaching in offices this summer. So I'm okay wearing them, because I won't feel out of place. I could not imagine myself teaching in stern government offices wearing any of the first 3 outfits. Thank you for the boost about the colour! I love it myself but people around me all say the colour is blah (on the rack). So your opinion confirms my choice!

@Claire, yes, gamine is my style. As a teen and a young 20 something, I was very influenced by the Mod style. Sometimes I try to steer away, but it always ends up stray away. So I'll keep it in mind.

@Makrame, thank you for the compliments! I was attracted to that geometric print too. There is something very crisp about it, even though the dress is shapely.

@Janet, yes, those dresses were at Costco in a little stand away from the clothes section. These are private companies who rent a booth space from Costco and stay there for a week or two. I grabbed those dresses that were half the price at least of what you would pay retail. DH loved them so much he suggested to get me more (!!!) but when we went back Friday they were already gone.

I'm with Joy and Diana -- I can very much see the appeal of the skirt itself -- it's a lovely breezy style and pretty print, but the underlayer is bothering me. It looks a bit like an errant half-slip. If they had made the underlayer in a color from the print in the skirt, it would have been much more appealing, I think. The white is just too stark.

That Costco dress is great! Costco, who knew??

Edited: autocorrect is so helpful! Changing underlayer to underwater, LOL.

Sorry although I love maxis I'm a no vote on this one. You seem quite petite & the volume & pattern seem to swamp you.

Krish, I'm with Suz and Angie. There's got to be a way for you to incorporate some boho without it overwhelming your frame. Maybe the silhouettes of the two "conservative" dresses with a 70's inspired print or cut. How do you feel about the Mod look? Gamine? Those might work better on you.

Hmm. I see. Hubs wants you to veer towards Modern Classic. YOU want to veer arty-boho, especially in summer. It is two aspirational styles in conflict!

I must say, I adore the colours of this skirt, both in general and on you in particular. And you look stunning in the rust and coral tops you've pictured with it. You just GLOW!!

I am afraid I have a bit of a poison eye for non-formal maxis. So even though I like the idea of this, I'm not wild about the length. But it is a personal preference. I would love it as a midi. I wonder if that is possible?

The other dresses look terrific on you - really lovely fit and colours. But the question in my mind is if you LOVE the skirt, how are you going to feel wearing those dresses?

Krish I have to say I am with hubby on this one. The two dresses he bought you are gorgeous but the maxi is just not doing it for me. The half slip is quite distracting and overall I just don't feel it flatters you. I do understand the attraction tho. The pattern is so pretty.

Would hemming it into a hi-lo work? I've seen some super pretty skirts that are quite long in the back vs. their front lengths and immediately thought of that when I saw this skirt.

I like the print and shape of the skirt (I'd do a volume on volume thing with it, like in #1) but I don't like the visible white underlayer. It's obviously supposed to be a deliberate look but to me it doesn't look deliberate ENOUGH, if that makes sense but more just like your underwear is showing or something. But there is an easy fix - just wear a long white slip under it.

Can you have the skirt hemmed to meet the bottom of the underlayer and then wear with top #1? I think it is too much volume for you as well as a long skirt. It's not as bad as your DH said though! I do like the new dresses.

The short very white layer under the sheer skirt bothers me. I'd like it better with a long white layer or a pink or coral underneath. My DH (and I suspect most men) has a poisoned eye to long casual skirts in general, but he's a leg man.
I really like #5 best.

Again, I am asking for your advice!

Last week I fell for this maxi skirt from a little trendy boutique down town. I loved the print and the fabric! It talked to me of summer, vacations, being carefree, etc. I think it might be too young for me!!!

When my husband saw me in it he stopped me right there and said I looked like a mad woman, for heaven's sake, to remove it. Because it is see-through, with a fitted, short white underskirt, and bunches at the waist, he says.

Well I think my husband is what we call in French "old game" (vieux jeu), meaning that his clothing tastes are too conservative. Anyway.

What do you think?

Yay - Keep
Nay - Toss

And if I keep, what top would you choose?

1 - With a short sleeve rust colour seethrough knitwear.

2 - With a short sleeve coral colour slightly longer, slightly less seethrough knitwear.

3 - With a white boho style tunique, loosely tucked.

Or do you have another suggestion?

The next two photos are dresses DH bought me immediately after seeing this skirt, he was so traumatized I think. We found them, believe it or not, at Costco!
