I second all the ideas mentioned above and add one more -- keep an eye on the website where you first saw the coat. People return things, and you never know -- you may be the lucky beneficiary of someone else's second thoughts!

I second the Ebay idea!

For the coat, unless you are going to freeze without a new coat, I vote to hold out for a yellow one. It will definitely make you happy in those cold months.

That coat is gorgeous! Holding out for a color you adore in a coat is worthwhile, as it is an investment and something you'll put on often.

If you are sure the shoes will fit you can save an eBay search. When they show up you will be notified.
I would be more flexible about a coat than shoes. I get fixated on shoes!

This seems to happen to me all the time: yay, I finally found a style I love and think would work for my body! Then inevitably, the item is sold out/discontinued/unavailable in my size. What do you do in these situations? Wait for the item to (maybe) appear again? Find something similar (but maybe not quite as ideal)? Or just give up and hope for something just as good to come along someday?

Here are two things I'm looking for (and in the case of the boots, have even been saving up for)--but can't get because they're sold out! I don't currently own any boots, or a trench coat, so they are basic items I was hoping to add to my "core" wardrobe :

Unbelted trench style/walker coat for winter. I love this one (#1-2, these pictures are from here http://sammydress.com/product36226.html--not of me!) because it has no defined waistline (I'm an apple), it has modern asymmetrical details so I find it fresh and interesting-looking, but it also has a nice retro flair; it is feminine but not fussy---and it is YELLOW, my favorite color in the world! I have never been a fan of red or black, and so many winter clothes come only in those colors!
For similar items, I have come up with this
http://www.bluefly.com/Tahari-.....detail.fly
And this
http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp......86.ref.CJ4?

I love the shape of the black, and maybe black is fine (very elegant and practical), but I do love bright colors in the winter. And I like the green too, but it is lighter and more raincoat-y, and not as structured. Do I settle for one of them anyway?

The other item is the Frye Rory Boots. http://vip.zappos.com/frye-ror.....ge-leather I know many of you have them, and I love them for their heel, toe shape, and lovely scrunchiness! But I cannot find them ANYWHERE in my size (9). I assume they are not making them anymore (they're not on the Frye website). I tried the Frye Cindy slouch http://www.amazon.com/FRYE-Wom.....B001VNBUMM and they just don't work for me the same way (I don't like the smaller heel or the pointier toe), nor do the Veronica slouch. I hear frye boots are the best. Do I wait and hope for a similar Frye style? Or what?
