Thank you all for such a encouraging responses. Lot of food for thought. Don’t have time to respond to all of you individually now, but I read and considered every comment more than once :)
So most of you mentioned modern colorful and classic as my style. I do wear lot of color in spring and summer but not so much in fall and winter. My problem is that I can’t easily identify what is modern, don’t know what euro style is, don’t have a clear picture what urban is, or what makes something retro or whatever. I just know if I like something or don’t. How do you all do it? How do you know if something is aligned with your style preferences? And is your style affected by outside circumstances, like climate, lifestyle, dress code, etc

Love your colour combos, in particular #3, #4, #5, #9 and #11.

Yellow is a colour that many shy away from. But you wear it to perfection. Sophisticated with grey, black and white.

You have an amazing sense of style, Anchie! I am not good at style descriptions, but I see gorgeous colourful modern classic. So many wonderful outfits! No1 is pure perfection- the trousers fit you perfectly and the colours are gorgeous together. I also LOVE no 7 - I would love to wear this outfit, what a gorgeous grey palette and the scarf is sublime.

I see a bright, soft-edged classic. Quite like Angie, but softer around the edges so to speak. (Do clothes have edges? )

... Would like to add that I agree with some others here that a sleek bob would be great for you.

By the way, I wonder why some fabbers say they are "late" if they respond to a forum post one or a couple of days after it was written. I don't think this is something anyone needs to apologize for, as it is quite natural that many of us have more urgent things to take care of than writing lots of comments to forum posts. At the other end of the spectrum, there are other (often new) YLF members who apparently find it natural to respond to forum posts several months or even years after they were written.

I'm sorry I'm so late to this ! I don't have style monikers either, and although I see their value, I have never spent time deciding upon any for myself. I agree with everything Bijou says about your beauty and style of dressing , and agree with Carla's hair suggestions . I have to be honest in saying that to my eye, your hair doesn't fit with your modern and chic way of dressing . Cut it You need to have a style that matches the confidence shown in your choices of clothing colours.

I'm terrible at style monikers . All I can say is that you rock all your outfits and the color is breath of fresh air. The outfits to me are fresh , stylish and interesting.I wouldn't go drastic with a pixie, you may end up there but I would go slow and have a few inches off first and see how you like it .

I too see something like Colorful Modern Classic in your pics. You always look sharp and well put together. The pop of color keeps things playful. I don't have a style moniker either, FWIW.

As to the hair, I am feeling the same way about mine and just scheduled a haircut. I love Runcarla's assessment and hairstyle ideas. I wouldn't go to a pixie yet. As you say, they can be a bear to grow out, and it sounds like your heart isn't in it anyway. I think a shoulder-length bob (a long bob, or "lob") would look great on you.

I love the colour of your hair and the comment that your hair was in tune with the alps in a previous post I thought was very true and a lovely comment. There is so much good advice above.

Regarding your hair, I love your hair. If you were to cut it shorter, please don’t go too short. How about just above shoulder length? I’m sorry your husband isn't more supportive in that way. However, I’m sure he has other good qualities. No one is perfect.

Of course you have style, Anchie. You don't need to have a moniker, descriptor, or set of adjectives. I find it useful and fun - but you might not. It's all good, and you're doing great!

We like the same colours, although I'll leave the grey to you :)

I LOVE RunCarla's hair suggestions. Don't cut your hair into a pixie yet.

I suck at descriptors so I’m just going to stick to hair. How about an off center part with a shoulder length bob? Maybe with a hair straightening treatment to get that bourgeoisie look that is trending. By the time the trend cycles, your hair will be long enough to get more layers if that’s where you want to go.

I see you as a spring simply because of the distinctive set of colors you seem drawn to: turquoise, lime, yellow, etc. Others here know more about the theory and practice, but here's a useful visual reference: http://cardiganempire.com/2017.....lysis.html

As for "Americana", I'm thinking of classic American sportswear in the (high end) Michael-Kors-ish vein: navy, white, and brights are key players, with some support from stripes, denim, and red. Crisp and clean is the look. Again, others may have further insights on this!

Kyle - I had pixie many times in my life and always got lot of compliments on it.

Runcarla - I think you hit the nail on the head ( is that the expression? ). My hair does feel wispy and feathery and that is exactly what bothers me. And you haven’t even seen the worst. I am a wash and go type, but now I have to use so much products and tools with mediocre results. Without it I look like I just stepped out of the tumble dryer LOL.

kkards - last 6-7 years I had the same hair style just couple of inches longer or shorter but it always basically felt the same. Cutting 3-4 inches is not a big deal for me, but probably also not enough of change that I am craving too.

Chris987 - I am limiting my color palette and that seems to help creating more cohesive outfits. But is this a style or just a style tool? Maybe I am overthinking it now. I am afraid that my DH is not really realistic and that is just wishful thinking on his side.

shevia - so glad to know I am not only one with that experience. When I stopped coloring my hair about 7 years ago I wanted to chop all of the colored hair and couldn’t find a hairdresser who wanted to do it. Eventually I found one who agreed but I had to promise her that I will not be upset with her and that I will not cry. Imagine !

LBD - Tropical Mermaid Bombshell! I am intrigued. I used to do a bit more Bombshell about 15 years ago when my style was closer to Bijou - I wore lot of sheath dresses and heels, but then I gained weight and I stopped being comfortable showing my figure.

Janet - thank you so much, it means a lot coming from you, I always admire your style and if I was not working in an office I would be dressing more like you. Color is a way for me to feel less masculine in a more formal outfits.

notsaf - I am curious to know what Americana style is? And interesting observation about me being spring. I could never tell because my hair and eyes are more cool but my skin is warm.

missvee - thank you. Jury seems to be divided on elegance;)

ChrisM - I have a similar situation at work, I have a senior technical position in IT and I work with mostly young guys that could be my sons. It is not easy to get their respect. I need to look somewhat current, and approachable. Someone whose advice young guys would accept;)

torontogirl - you are right, I don’t necessarily need words and descriptors. But I am now curious if my work and my casual style have some overlapping elements? Maybe that can point me in the right direction.

Dreika - thank you so much - unique is great. And you could be right, I think I am craving the change and that is behind all those self doubting.

I love your very distinct style. Polished feminine colorful and always chic and modern. Don’t do a drastic cut if it isn’t what you want. I quite like the long bob idea. The first photo that Runcarla showed is still soft enough for flattery but has a bit of modern to it.

Synne - I am very flattered, thank you. I am not really sure about glamorous and royal but I am trying to aim for feminine and sharp. Conservative is what I prefer for my work outfits but not sure if it is part of my style. It is getting difficult for me to distinguish what is part of my style and what I wear because it is appropriate for the situation ( blazers, conservative, etc)

Kathie - I did like layers in my hair before but because of different texture of gray hair it didn’t turn out the way it used to.

Style Fan - you are right that different texture makes difference in what works now and I forgot to take that into account with my last haircut.

Fashintern - don’t worry, I was not hurt but it did make me question what image I project. Unfortunately my hair now has more waves but less body - not a great combination.

Jenni NZ - maybe I look sharp in my work outfits because I wear blazers as part of my work ‘uniform’ but not sure if they really represent my style - I never wear blazers in my free time. And matching is my secret tool to appear more stylish than I am

Such beautiful color combinations. Your wardrobe sends a very happy vibe. I like your hair pulled back so that I see your pretty face more. Also...."your hair...your decision".....for what it is worth....maybe get a couple of wigs similar to your hair color--- a short bob at chin length or a pixie cut. Wear it around the house or plan a fieldtrip outside and see how you like the new look. Just a thought

Urban, trendy, colourful, classic. Your style sensibilities align very closely to Angie’s, so you could look at her style descriptors.

My 2 cents regarding hair: you seem very deliberate with your overall style, but your current hair situation doesn’t have the same feeling. The bangs are neither here, nor there and the length and layers are wispy and feathery - more ethereal than your sharp style. Full, blunt, sleek, and sharp is the way to go. You can still let it air dry for waves and natural texture, but it will look fuller and thicker. Just above the shoulder, if you want the option of pulling it back, to just below the ear. You have a great face and shouldn’t hide behind bangs.
