Thanks Inge, I'm going to go read that post again from Angie. I agree that patterned tops seem like a particularly good bet.

K- thanks for the pinspirations - that is great! I esp. liked the middle two.

pil- thank you for thinking of me regarding natural fabrics and I for the link to the linen top.

The tanks sound like an excellent idea, at least until you find something you like better. Especially since you already have some. I was thinking of a sleeveless blouse like K suggested. Without knowing anything about Uniqlo, the orange might be fun with the blue. And it is linen - I know you prefer natural fabrics.

You know, I was just pinning several Gap looks with a similar blazer. I have one and have been having a hard time matching it up. The looks all showed scrunched sleeves and button downs underneath and they looked great. Would a sleeveless button down be workable for you? They also showed one with a patterned tank, so I think your idea is great and so do the Gap stylists! ;)

Love the blazer, and I also love the striped top that is on the way, textstyle, they will be lovely together. I bet you can make several of the other tanks in your closet work too as long as you use at least one sophisticated piece in the outfit. A bit like Angie described in her sneaker blog post:
http://youlookfab.com/2013/03/.....ated-edge/

I second Suz's colour suggestions (and I too love the idea of patterned tops), and will add: yellow, orange, cobalt blue (I wouldn't wear dark jeans on the bottom with that specific colour combo, otherwise my thumbs are up for dark jeans with the blazer), khaki and olive, coral, teal, purples, cream, mint...).

chewy- lace is a good idea. I only have one lace top right now and it is a weird warm grey but I could look for another.

Suz - thanks - I think raspberry and taupe are two of the colors on my list of "need to buy something sleeveless in this color" lol. I don't own many patterns and I'll have to see how light the wash is but I'm hopeful it will work with dark jeans as well as with other color bottoms. I will go back and check out the links on nancylee's recent thread.

Navy, black, white, ivory, rose or pink or raspberry, some greens, reds of all kinds, tan, taupe. Stripes, florals, other patterns. I'd wear it with dark jeans if the wash is light enough.

I recently ordered a chambray blazer (haven't received it yet, small
pic below) but now I am wondering if it is going to be flexible enough.
I wanted to replace a more military style chambray jacket I've used for
a couple of summers with something a bit more classic or feminine I
guess.

I think the blazer will pair with my bottoms well enough (white, tan,
black, dark blue) - but I'm wondering about tops under it as I can't
wear sleeves with a blazer in Texas summer. Is a simple ribbed tank too
"basic" and unstructured for me? I am not a youngster any more. I don't
feel fab when I wear them on their own, that's for sure. But I do have
a drawer full of them from summers past. Tees are an easy yes - white,
red, striped I guess. I really don't wear yellow, orange or pastels
except blue so those colors are out for me.

I also have this jcrew striped tank on order (pic 2 below) and wonder
if it might go together. I think I need to find some more sleeveless
tops that are just a bit more interesting than simple tanks. Seems so
many are polyester and I don't do polyester.

What colors would you pair a chambray blazer with? Would you wear it with dark jeans as well?
