I bought some shoes, pointy toe flats with interesting sparkly lines across the toes. Along with a pink top with lacy yoke, black chiffon pleated/crinkled skirt, and red tagua nut cluster necklace, I think I may have a good option. The earrings are a possibility but I'll have to try them with the whole outfit, not just the necklace (and whatever top I had on that day).</p> <p>This was a proven (worn and I liked it and felt good in it) combo in the past. I am delivering my quilt collection to the gallery on Wednesday (hope to get all the finishing touches and tags made today) so Thursday is set aside to visit a few shops and boutiques. While the jeans outfit does feel more dressed up or “edgier” than my usual, and probably would stand out in my geographic zone, I can see where I could take it to the next level. I love the idea of a quilted jacket or even attaching a bit of your quilting on the back of a denim jean jacket. Look for graphic tees and jewelry you like at art shows. The quilting crowd is a pretty casual bunch for the most part, so take your comfort style and tweak it to make sure they know that YOU’RE the one to congratulate!!</p> <p>A little dressier shoe, coordinated with your pants, or as an accent would be nice; a crisp topper, maybe that comes down longer to provide some drama; if you already have a wearable art piece that you’ve made that you love, excellent! I usually pull out a statement jacket, dramatic top, or other distinctive piece for these occasions — if I don’t want to be too bold, I’ll keep the outfit pretty simple and add a really fab scarf or necklace. I generally keep pants simple and neutral, and go with shoes that make a bit of a statement but are still comfortable for standing around for hours. </p> <p>I often wear something that coordinates or complements my work somehow — for instance, I wore a top with an icy-watery print when I showed work featuring a lot of images of icebergs, etc. </p> <p>I always dress “up” a little more than I have to. Needless to say, I am thrilled to the gills and honored to have been invited to show my quilts.</p> <p>I have successfully established a retirement daily dress code and corresponding wardrobe, however the special occasion selections are sparse in my closet. That is probably&nbsp;because when I have a special occasion, it happens once. (No need for a wedding guest dress capsule when I attend one wedding every 3-5 years.) And the evening out choices are pretty easy when I go to friends' to play cards, basketball games and casual social events, so I don't have cocktail party clothes.</p> <p>I've come up with what I'd love to wear if this were pretty casual, but I'd also like to have a more dressy-party-worthy choice. This white jeans, black oxfords, olive tee, linen jacket and chunky tagua nut necklace feels like my style and colors, but maybe not as festive as I'd prefer. I prefer to add a little quirk or edge to my outfits, just so I don't look like a "sloppy artist-quilt lady". I wouldn't object to a dress, if it is not cold shoulder, skimpy, tight, or super expensive.&nbsp;I know you all have fabulous and creative ideas. Any advice? Thank you so much!</p>
