white jacket...adorbs.

also interesting color theory on what to wear to convey subliminal messages.

blue=loyal, trustworthy
red=power "i'm in chg" color

so i go with a blue button down or navy suit with red (very) short nails.

Thanks Molly and Suz... Just back from collecting the suit from the alterations people and I am still in happy land... Molly, I had very dark hair and was very much a winter and find I still seem to work with bright colours and you are right, more whites and green and pinks seem to work now. I like navy too but to get enough base pieces in my fitting is problematic hence my love-hate with black... Suz, yes home in a few weeks - remember before I left I was so excited - it has been amazing but I so miss my family after nearly 3 months. DH has been painting my wardrobe, repositioning the mirror etc so hopefully better photos when I get home... I will go to the shop who does have some fixed wrap tops to go under the suit so might grab on or two - I am wearing a wrap top now in fact :-)

Jen, the linen suit is GORGEOUS on you. Absolutely fabulous. What a lovely cut and colour. You will look wonderful in that and any one of the tops you've suggested. I also really like the look of the white jacket.

I wish I could see the other things better, but from your descriptions, this all sounds great. And I like the mix and match possibilities with what is at home, as well.

The need for accessories will depend on the style of the tops and your tolerance for same.

Do you do wraps well? Maybe a wrap top, in that case, like some of Thistle's recent purchases? But really, a simple shell under the jacket (or button down) would be great, too.

I am not sure I agree with Molly that you are a "spring." Of course it is difficult to say, because we haven't been seeing you in proper light for quite some time, LOL! But I was thinking you are cool toned.

Further to this, on the subject of colours: I've just discovered a clothing company called Kettlewell who make clothes according to the principle of colour analysis. I reckon you're a Spring (but again, I'm not a qualified colour analyst, just an interested lay person, so use your own judgment). Anyway, this is a link to the colours that will supposedly suit you. From the colours listed, the ones I think would go best with what you already have are Teaberry, Grass Green, Azure and Blue Hyacinth, with Cream as a neutral. You may or may not want to purchase from them, or just use the colours as ideas when looking in other shops. Anyway, have fun!

The ink blue/white patterned top and lemon yellow tops are great. IMHO, black is not the best colour for your skin tone and navy would be a better neutral, but feel free to take that advice with a pinch of salt. Suggestions re: tops - more tops in warm, light colours in styles that are comfortable for you to wear, with off white as a light-coloured neutral. Just my £0.02!

End of next week I start about a week of conference in London. I need to be comfortable to do 14 hour days but at the same time there are some big situations for me - renegotiating book contract, taking over international Chair role, important presentation to people I don't yet know... I have been looking for a new power suit on trip to no avail. I have just discovered Long Tall Sally - an entire store of clothes and shoes that fit my 5'9" size 16 frame with 43 shoes... Here are a few outfits I made up with a new black and white linen suit, a new pair of crepe slouchy pants, and some of my things I bought. Importantly I found a pair of pointy toe low stilettos a la Angie that fit! (and pantyhose but there is another story!)... I have to get the pants and cuffs hemmed but what do you think? Sorry about the photos - its very dark here in Scotland even inside!

#1 the suit and stilletos (yes to be hemmed)... Realise I need a top to wear under. I have black and this mauve is just an old navy cotton top. Perhaps a white tank? I have a white button down with french cuffs which could be another day? But look Ma - the waist hits the waist!! wahoo
#2 crepe slouchies with a print silky top and my jersey jacket (YLF retro top noted)
#3 slouchies with black tank and white leather Danier
#4 black skirt, off white peplum top (new) and black jacket
#5 black skirt, black wrap top

I also have my black wrap dress that I will do an Ingunn to with a hermes look silk scarf etc. Also got a very dark wash pair of jeans and some nude smooth leather flats so could do with a jacket dress down on prep, last day etc. There is also a lovely white jacket at the store which I might go back and get (See pic) ... then I can endlessly match black white greys... At home I have cobalt boyfriend jacket and magenta cropped jacket. Oh and have a denim jacket with me as well so I can mix some more things up...

Any suggestions for tops which I think I need more of - styles colours? And I know camera is in the way but think I need necklace/accessories for the tops? Here are a few options - again I am in puppy-heaven that waists are on waists and the knits are long and roomy enough but still fitted on the shoulders...
