Joy: this is the kind of thing they do very well at COS. If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can also find great examples by smaller designers. But at the top end, the impact comes from the quality of the materials and craftsmanship, which never comes cheap.

I have to say though that I'm not overly impressed with the examples shown here. These very statement-y silhouettes look quite challenging to wear, the kind of exaggerated pieces that don't mix well and easily overwhelm the wearer.

I don't think there's any substitute for knowing what you like, what suits you and how to put it together. When it comes to business wardrobes, I think there are ladies here on this forum who do a better job.

I read this in the WSJ and imagined that powerful women in business do need to find wardrobe items that set them apart. The architectural simplicity of the outfits is appealing. I'd love to see more of this sort of style at lower price ranges.

A very interesting article! I do like to make outfits out of one "interesting" piece like a special sweater or jacket, keeping the rest simple. In a professional environment this can be a challenge. Nothing too dramatic or architectural! Also the special pieces seem to work best - i.e. special not kooky - when, unfortunately, more expensive - the quality does show.

Thanks for sharing this! Makes me wish I worked in a more creative environment (along with the sky-high salary necessary to afford such designer beauties).

Yes, that's mostly what I want - workhorses that are interesting but not showy, still somehow subdued. I have to note though, I'm not much for tying and wrapping. I find that involves a lot of fussing, retying and rewrapping. I also don't know that I go for clean lines that much.
