Anne -- might not be worth it, or your gifter might be insulted....but how about making a scarf from the skirt fabric? Because the pattern and colours really are fab on you?

Hi Anne, thanks for playing and incorporating the suggestions. Much better, but I vote pass. (Still) Too much work to make it work, IYKWIM. Keep the pattern and colour at the back of your mind as something that looks great on you, but save the wardrobe space for something better.

Vix -- that's a good point. There are some that work. But notice in the pics -- hers has a collar and the V is not wide and low. That makes all the difference. I would wear one like that myself. It's the collarless, wide V versions that become tricky.

I agree the pattern and colours are great on Anne on this dress.

Thanks for the new pics. I'm a nay vote with Suz. I find the frock a tad tight, low in the front, and too short. Wraps are hard, and need filling out on top especially. (I look AWFUL in a wrap dress because I cannot fill it out). I do love those shades of blue on you though. Lets look for something that does you justice, beautiful Anne. xo

Hi Anne --

I think it's much improved in 4-6, and even if you were paying for it I'd vote "keep" as I think the color and print look great on you. The print's also one that elongates and IIRC that's something you don't mind your clothes doing.

So given that I think it's a nice change for you, what you want it for, that it was free, and that you have a very limited budget I'd wear it and enjoy.

Now, as a Rectangle I do get the feeling square-waisted in a wrap (and FWIW never see you as a pear shape, just as a Rectangle/IT with muscular legs). Women whose body shapes go waaay in at the waist in their wraps get to have a very different lovely curvy look.

But whatever one's structural shape, I've never gotten the "small-busted women look bad in wraps" -- as long as there's not drooping fabric, anyway -- since the INVENTOR of the wrap is small-busted! ;)

Yes Suz, and I have always thought that, so it is no great surprise or disappointment. They do look nice on others, and it would have been handy to stuff in a bag to wear to work straight after going to the gym with no crushing to worry about. But it was no loss to me!
(and yes I am a very weird pear what with the broad shoulders and slimmish hips! )

Yes Aquamarine, I tied it much higher, almost under the bust this time. So I think the bottom is even now. I am not feeling much love for how I look in it.
I look very IT ish from the back (and I am a pear!!) and my weight is up at the moment and I think this is showcased for me in how thick I feel in the torso (with of course, no bust to balance it). I think I'll put it in the holding zone and try again if I can lose the 5 or 6 pounds I have put on recently

Hi Anne --

I'd love for this to work on you, so first see if you can get the hems to meet up and see how that affects the expanse of V (cami/slip) showing.

If that's possible, also try tying the belt a little higher -- closer to your bust -- as well as at your waist. Good luck!

I like Deborah's idea about a cami in a lighter colour here Anne.
Also a chunky scarf might cover the exposed area and give it a more contemporary look too.

Anne, I'm on the fence for all the reasons mentioned above. It almost looks too big for you. But I love a wrap dress, they are so elegant. As suggested can you wrap it more firmly around you and can you raise the waistline a little? And a cami in a similar tone would create a more consistent look. Definitely worth playing with.

It's a pretty dress, the pattern is flattering and looks great on you, but the dress may need some effort to work for you as it should.

You'll obviously need a cami underneath. I'd suggest one in as close colour to the dress as possible, maybe the shade of blue so it looks very intentional. Black cami + black hose are paired well (bookending, check), but the width of the black cami that's showing makes the top area look very prominent to my eye and in combination with the hose overpowering. So, my suggestion would be brighter cami and brighter hose. Or at least closing the gaping a bit more or at higher point if you'll wear the black hose.

Also, if the front overlapping part being slightly longer cannot be fixed by closing the wrap closer to the side, can it be fixed by seeing machine intervention?

To sum it up: try as quick and as simple fixes as possible that will allow you to wear the dress and forget any issues, otherwise it'll be too much work to wear it and won't be effortless.

I agree with the others that the V looks too low. I also have a small bust so often have a lot of gaping at the neckline in wrap dresses, but this almost looks a little too fitted to me. I always like the edge of the wrap to hit closer to the side rather than the front (less chance of flapping open). It could also be a problem if you're petite and/or short-waisted, so the proportions just aren't hitting right.

To me, the dress looks kind of "meh," mostly because of what Joy pointed out: there is a lot of space that has to be covered up by the cami. To me, the V seems like it is cut too low and too wide.

I haven't tried to wear a wrap dress yet...I have a very small bust too and have been avoiding them!

Wrap dresses are tricky IMO! Is it possible to pull this one tighter - so that the actual wrap (where the top piece covers the underneath piece) hits you on the side of your body? - rather than close to the middle of your body? Another way of explaining it - can you wrap the dress so that the hems meet evenly - rather than the one piece hanging longer than the piece underneath? (Hope I'm making sense!)

ETA: Just looked at the pics again. Can you pull that "v" part of the neckline up so that the "v" part of the neckline is smaller and hits higher on your chest/neck?

A wrap dress fits you better than it does me but, to be frank, I don't think this one is working for you. There is such a large space on your chest, even with the black cami. Can the top be pulled together more? Even then, from my experience, it will be fussy to wear, moving around to hang strangely. You could tell the gifter that it doesn't fit you.
