Sara L., Thank you! I hope this dress works out--I'd "collected" it for some time and then freaked out once it sold out at Nordstrom. I had to forage around the internet to find one.

JAileen, Another vote for the juniper necklace!

SarahD8, Haha! Ecological confusion! I do see what you mean, but I was attracted to that combo because they share a murky color palette.

Angie, The kimono jacket sounds like a perfect complement to this dress!

Fashiontern, Thank you! I feel I could wear this dress at a variety of functions. Versatility is definitely a plus.

Sal, I'm curious, how is it that you and Angie have both suggested grey shoes? I just don't see it. There's one style of Sam Edelman shoes, "Hazel" that comes in a ton of colors. I have one pair, so I know that the are comfortable and they are not too pricey. If I were to buy, I might start there--definitely the easiest and least time consuming solution!

Lovely dress - I can imagine this suiting you very well. I think it is a perfect start to a formal/party/holiday capsule.....

I like all your options for jewelry and I agree it could be an easy dress to change the accessories for.

I would wear black, nude for you, grey or coloured shoes with this and probably nude sheers or black/nude fishnets. I would look hard on the sales for shoes that are discounted because they don't get a lot of wears but they need to be comfortable.

Wow, what a great canvas that dress is! You could wear it for years with various accoutrement, and no one would ever notice.

Holiday outfit has great potential, Emily. Wear black fishnets or sheer black hose. Grey pumps get my vote. I like the idea of metal earrings to break up the black.

And you need a wrap/kimono/jacket/ something.

Beautiful dress, I hope it works out! I love the idea of wearing the cast juniper jewelry set, it looks very holiday-magical.

In an ideal world I'd pair the jewelry with Joy's silver wrap and a pair of silver pumps, but I hear you on the budget limitations. I think the dress and juniper necklace would work with the nude pumps, but I personally wouldn't do juniper + leopard, that seems...ecologically confused?

I like the dress. It looks like a good background for whatever accessories you decide on. I love your necklace. I would wear it if I could. (I have a very small piece that is a casting of a twig. I think it's easy for jewelry makers to do.). The cuff and earrings would also look nice. I like Joy's metallic scarf. I like repeating a color.

I think the black dress looks dressy and versatile. You could change the look easily with your accessories. Since you have time, I would conitnue to look for tassel earrings. It seems like a fairly inexpensive way to add some trendiness to your outfit. Nude or leopard print pumps will look great with the dress.

LaP, I bought the necklace about 15 years ago at a tiny artist botique and I thought it was handmade by one of the participating artists. It was a surprise to easily find a photo online, so maybe the necklace will prove more readily available than that? There were many different types of casted botanicals from which to choose.

Fingers crossed about the dress. I wrote "Holidays" but I probably won't wear it until Valentines, so plenty of time.

Hi Emily! I'm in the midst of the exact same struggle (though none of the events I'm attending have a dress code, and so far what I've seen of people's attire has run the gamut). I'm going to write up a post of my in at some point. Do you have a back-up plan if the dress doesn't work out? Are you certain you'll have enough time for alterations (I hate having to get something tailored last minute)? I love the idea of bright pumps with LBD, but will adding a color feel "off" to you if it's not tied in by jewelry, bag, or scarf? That is, will you be left wanting g to buy more accessories if you add new shoes? And do you have other outfits in mind that could use bright pumps?

Sorry, that's more questions than answers! I hope the dress is a keeper. Also -- I LOVE that juniper necklace. I would wear that to a holiday event for sure. You don't have a link to the maker, do you?

I saw a lot of tassel earrings on Amazon, some that seem very manageable in scale, but it’s hard to know if they may look too cheap in person. So I hope you can find something nice at the mall.

Joy, I DO remember the thread about trimming your earrings. That is a good solution and one that I may employ. I think, though, in addition to length, many of the tassels seem just too bulky overall. But I should get out into the mall and see what I can find in person. Thank you for your thoughts!

Emily, if the tassel earrings are a fiber, you can easily trim them shorter with a sharp scissors. I did this taking about an inch off and they can still dust my shoulders. The ones made of beads would not work, but they are usually shorter anyway.
I like the black dress with your jewelry. You could dress it up with a metallic scarf. I sent for the one below from Nordstroms. It easily can be worn as a scarf rather than a wrap as shown. (will add find from my iPad).
The piece is soft, not scratchy, and has a gentle gleam.

Hi All! I could use your help. I am trying to wrangle a Holiday outfit. I have a big wardrobe hole where dressy and/or formal clothes are concerned--I have NONE. ZIP. ZERO. NADA. And I do not have a huge budget to remedy this, either.

But, here's what I am putting together. I have the black dress on order. I do not know if it will fit, but I nearly always plan on alterations, so I hope it can be made to fit. I do really like the look and style of the dress.

I have nude pumps and leopard pumps that might work and would plan to wear super sheer hose. I kinda want to wear brightly colored pumps, but they would be an additional purchase.

My first choice for jewelry would be black pom pom or tassel earrings. This is where I'd hoped to inject a little fun or frivolity--but all the examples I've found are so big! Huge! And a lot of the Etsy ones are not very well crafted. If you see some online that are well made, "classy" and not too huge, would you let me know?

Other options are: 1) Silver ball and stick earrings that I already own. 2) A necklace and earrings set that is cast from juniper (I already own it.) The necklace is clavicle-length. 3) Silver filigree earrings similar to one of those pictured below.

What are your favorites among this group? Should I look in a different direction?
