My husband bought me the EAS Active game as a Christmas present. He thought it would be a great back-up to have, after the baby arrives in the event that I can't make it to the gym. I have used it nearly every day since Christmas. I especially like the boxing segments and the track running. A great present from the hubs and a worthwhile purchase for anyone wanting to add to their Wii game collection.

Thanks Anemone, that is really helpful information. I will check into the titles you recommended. I know I will love the Wii as soon as I find the right combination of games.

Thanks for taking the time to respond with your vast knowledge! I truly appreciate it!

I second the recommendation for Dance Dance Revolution (the Wii versions are titled Hottest Party). Avoid the original DDR Hottest Party for Wii (too many bugs, doesn't maintain your settings, no training mode) and try Hottest Party 2 or 3. Since Hottest Party 3 is relatively new, it is generally bundled with a mat. DDR kept me exercising last winter when the weather was too awful to get outside. I would recommend going in to the option screen and turning off the gimmicks and hand movements, at least as you're learning. Using just the feet is a better workout anyway, IMO. I find DDR so much fun that an hour can easily fly by w/o my realizing it.

I just got We Cheer 2, and that seems to be another good one, though I skip past the "cheerleader-y" talk. It has fun choreography to pop music sung by the original artists, whereas most of the DDR versions of songs are mediocre covers. It's my understanding that the original We Cheer had quite a significant learning curve, but they improved the second version and it's a lot more beginner friendly. It can be very good exercise once you get past the beginner levels. It's best if you have two Wii remotes for this one--one for each hand.

Active Life Outdoor Challenge, which comes w/ a mat similar to DDR workouts, also can be a great workout. It's meant for the whole family, and it is probably the most vigorous of our Wii games, because there is a fair amount of running (in place) and jumping. Two children can use the same mat to play against each other or as a team for some games, but grown ups will do better in single player mode so you don't have to share a mat.

If you like boxing, the Gold's Gym Cardio workout is good. The original Jillian Michaels Wii game was supposed to be awful--don't know about the new one. I've seen a commercial for Just Dance and that one looks fun.

Have fun w/ your new Wii!

I wish that I could get 45 minutes or even 30 minutes without having to "start over". I appreciate the break, but my scale would rather i continue without a break! I will have to continue looking for that perfect game that keeps my heart rate up for a longer duration. Maybe those are "locked" until you can prove yourself??

I am going to look for that Sarah.
My kids love the boxing game, but I haven't played it.
Susan- that's my complaint about it, too- the cardio sessions are too short.
This may sound funny, but check out Dance Dance Revolution for cardio. It requires a mat, but we got one from Game Stop that was cheaper than the official Wii one. Actually, I think I am going to go play that right now. It's really fun, but it is one song at a time.

Khris, you can get an upgrade to Wii Fit PLUS for $20. It has a lot more games, so I'd recommend it.
I love boot camp style workouts, so Jillian's 2010 appeals to me more than the 2009. Maybe try the '09 Susan? And cardio is more than walking. Cardio is a heart rate range, so a lot of those games and things classify as cardio. Most of the Wii Fit Plus games are cardio centered. Have you done the obstacle course?
The boxing that comes on Wii Sports (comes with the Wii) is a good cardio workout as well.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I also got a Wii for Christmas and am wondering what games to get. I got the Wii Fit Plus and have tried the basic running and some of the yoga. I try to get 45 minutes of cardio each day...any games that you know of that offer more cardio? I sort of liked the jogging in place, but don't like that you go for 10 minutes and then stop and have to start over again. I would prefer a straight workout of at least 30 minutes.

Has anyone tried the Jillian Michael's 2010 - I read above that they have bootcamp style exercises, but not sure that is really what I am after.

Thanks and a Merry Merry Christmas to you all!

Wii Fit Plus is just another DVD, no need to get any other equipment. I really like it because it allows you to set up your own favorite routine of yoga and strength exercises, and then goes through them down the list instead of having to click through to each one.

I have the 2009 Jilllian Michael's one. I was looking online at the 2010, and it sound like it has more bootcamp style exercises- pushups, jumping jacks, etc. Those are not my favorite things. We have the regular Wii Fit- but you can buy the upgrade to Plus can't you? We have Wii Sports and Wii Play, but I haven't really played those. I'm loving Dance Dance Revolution, and that has a workout mode, too. I am going to ask for EAS Active for my birthday in January.
That's hilarious about the chicken suit. The Jillian Michaels has a paint grenade toss, and I thought "Oh yeah- big deal". You have to squat down to pick up the grenades, and then toss them with a big throw- it was much more of a workout than I thought it would be.
Rute- we got a pretty good deal on a used one. This was our family Christmas present, but my husband wasn't able to keep it under wraps.

LOL, welcome to your Wii addiction! I love mine. I am totally uncoordinated so I don't play many of the games on the Wii Fit or the Wii Fit Plus, but I love the yoga, the strength exercises, and the cardio workouts. Kung Fu, boxing, and the Step ones are my faves.

Hubby loves Wii Sports; he plays tennis all the time.

I wonder what my husband would think if I started flapping around in the living room?

BTW, Wii Fit Plus has much more fun games that will really work you, vs. the first Wii Fit. There's a particular game where your Mi dons a chicken suit and you have to flap to different perches. My triceps and shoulders hurt for DAYS afterwards.

Yes! Wii Fit games as well as the Wii Sports Resort are great for getting movin'. I don't have it yet, but Jillian's Ultimatum 2010 is rated fairly high, as is the EAS Active. Most of those don't compare to my daily workouts, but if I couldn't workout I know I could definitely burn some calories.

We just got a Wii yesterday, and hubby made sure the Wii Fit and balance board and a Jillian Michael's game came home along with it. I've used it a little last night and this morning, and I really like it. It's not like taking a class at the gym and getting a really intense workout for an hour, but you could squeeze in little activities with this and you can get a decent workout. Since I haven't been able to make it to the gym, and I can't go out and jog or walk, this is a good alternative for me. It's certainly better than sitting on the couch and watching a movie. Does anyone else have recomendations for other fitness games for Wii?
