There have been times in my life when I wished things were different with my body. I had an accident that left a large scar on the side of my nose. It healed and I thought nothing more of it until my mother took me for my annual physical, pointed out my scar and asked my doctor if he thought I needed plastic surgery. My doctor responded that he thought I was beautiful and saw no reason to consult a plastic surgeon. I learned a lot about how important looks are to some people that day. I also learned a lot about compassion. I have carried the kindness of Dr. Lambdin’s comment in my heart for 47 years. In later years I was often ridiculed for being too skinny. I so wished I could gain weight, so I would not be teased.<br /> Fast forward to being a woman who has the ability to see true beauty in others and within myself. I celebrate my scars, wrinkles and graying hair. I was tormented when I was 12/13 years old because I was very thin. (had a huge growth spurt at that time&nbsp; as&nbsp; well) </p> <p>But what made it worse is that my mother brought this my my attention constantly, even dragging me to&nbsp; the doctor who gave me nutritional supplements which did not help me gain an ounce. I have never dieted in my life. I exercise and&nbsp; eat healthy.</p> <p>Then when&nbsp; I turned 14, I blossomed.&nbsp; I was still thin, but I think my "female" development made a difference in how I was perceived by others. I was no longer the "sickly skinny kid",&nbsp; but now was the "hot teenage chick".</p> <p>Fast forward and I had a daughter who too was very thin at age 12/13 and still is. She is perfect for her. She eats like a teenage boy (she is 23) so it is not like she is trying to be thin. I won't let anyone say anything to me about it and&nbsp; politely tell them that she is perfect for her and to mind their own business.</p> <p>We are all individuals and should not look to one standard regarding our appearance.
