This is a long way away from your original idea - but what about wearing them over tights/leggings in winter, sort of instead of a longish tunic?

Mama, I love the idea of harem pants -- or wrap pants that you could do in any length.

What about this pattern?

I think it is a fun look - there are a variety of women wearing them and they all look great!! They are super casual - beachy, lounging, park with kids.

I think they need to be long enough to show if you are wearing a looser top.

I could also see something similar in a crop/harem style being pretty cool.

I would be tempted to give them a go.

The beauty of sewing is that you can add (or take away) length without too much difficulty. If it were me I would add the length to the top of the pattern rather than trying to get the curve right on the bottom. It is an interesting pattern and if not too expensive, I'd give it a go!

For me a 5.5 leg inseam is the absolute shortest I can wear comfortably around the house. If I'm going out its more like 10"

If you have got the legs, I say go for it. You can always hide the waistline with a flowy top

I like them, but don't know what I'd do with shorts so short. I imagine the sticky feel of sitting in a plastic chair at a diner or hot car seats. And if it's hot enough for me to wear shorts, I also don't want to tuck. And I don't do crop tops...

You mention that tummy is a problem spot for you. While the elastic waist on these (at least it looks like an elastic waist?) would be good for that, it seems like you would need a top that covered a fair amount of torso, and a top like that would also cover all the detailing that's cute about these shorts.

So, dilemma.

Also, I'm seeing others' point about the shortness here. Short shorts ride up A LOT when you sit down. Not great when you're actually sitting, even less great when you stand up again and have to tug them back where they belong.

How skilled a seamstress are you? Could you hack the design to make it work the way you want it to work for you?

Could you adopt the pattern to make the length longer as you do sew? They are pretty but in my day we called them "daisy dukes" we also called them something else but it is not as nice. These are pretty. I wished that they would make them longer in plus stores also.

I would also wonder about tucking in a top. Buy maybe you could find one that would highlight your beauty.

Can't show the world my business plus or not.

One of the models shown (in two toned shorts) is a somewhat larger size, that might give you a sense of how the pattern looks made up in a larger size. If you decide these won't work as regular shorts, I think they would make cute summer loungewear/pajama shorts.

The shorts are cute, but super short. I would have a hard time with the length. Do you have other short shorts you like to wear? I could see this type of print/detail in a skirt for you to play up your legs. As for a top, I would say flowy and cropped.

I vote look for something longer unless your thighs are slim and you really want to call attention to them. you would need to be very careful that they don't pull so that they hang loosely and how they look when seated.
