Amy, I stand in awe of your sewing!!

I think the suit sounds very fun, and want to throw out the idea of some vibrant orange in there somewhere (like Ana's Jcrew pants in her Cheetah jacket thread).

I'll be looking forward to pics of your pieces and otufits

I absolutely love this suit Amy - with your fab hairstyle and funk-o-licious self, this will NOT be boring! Like others, I'm not a fan of the purple ruffled jacket - I think it might kind of swallow you up and it's a little too shiny.

Suit, suit, suit! And it's not a boring old suit you can get just anywhere - it's a print you already own and love AND has retro flair. A citron or red top would be awesome with that.

Amy, I think that skirt is an excellent investment at the price. Even if you don't wear it with the jacket, it will be an incredible workhorse with other jackets. My experience suggests that it is worth it to include at least one print skirt (or bright coloured plain skirt) in your rotation. My own patterned skirt is worn a surprising amount. Of course I wear all my clothes a surprising amount (and it isn't surprising at all when you consider how few I have, LOL!) but truly, I've realized that I enjoy pattern, but not so much near my face (or only in small amounts near my face, as in a scarf) so putting the pattern on the bottom still allows me to wear it.

Glad you are sorted on the jeans and purple jacket. I can understand your attraction to that jacket (i.e. it makes sense given your former fave outfits AND also with your aspirational style) but to be honest it seems more backward looking than forward focused and I doubt if you really need it.

There. Now I hope you will give me a similar talking to the next time I post some wild fantasy item or worse yet confess to having spent money on one!

Thanks for your input, everyone.

You're right, Claire, that doesn't fit into my budget at all. I got sidetracked! I don't need the bright blue pants either. Must stay on target...

I've sewn all of my jeans for the past few years. They've all been the same basic bootleg cut. My experience has been a lot like MsEccentric's. They are some of the most comfortable pants I've ever owned; however, I didn't hem them PPL (My Bad!) and now I want straight leg slim fitting jeans. We'll see how this goes.

As always I'm jealous of your sewing talent. And the chance to give the jacket a suit option in brilliant. Although I can see both the jacket and the skirt being worn separately in lots of different ways too.
I love the jacket. And for what it's worth, I am neither a ruffle wearer (I have 1 blouse with ruffles, that's it) nor an overly girly dresser. I'd try it out myself to see if it would work for me.
Perhaps, I need to go to the Nordstrom site and look at that jacket myself . . .

I would totally wear that suit to one of my dog shows! Add some colored tights and neat shoes or funky boots and I think it would be fantastic.

Not hot on the purple ruffle jacket. But if you love it, give it a try.

Hi Amy, I'm not sure the purple and ruffles are bad, but have you sorted your proportions enough to know what neckline and length of jacket and tops are going to be best for you? Would this be a top to wear with skirts for work, or would you wear slacks with it? Is it for going out to dinner, etc.? Which hole would it fill (you've shown me your budget, remember, heh heh)?
I love the idea of completing your suit for so little money. That seems like a no-brainer investment to me! And if you can *make* yourself a pair of jeans, you are a genius in my book. Steph (MsEccentric) has made herself jeans too and swears they're the best fitting pair she's ever owned. You might never need to purchase another pair!

Cool! This will be the cheapest suit I could imagine and the quality is pretty good. I think I got the jacket for under $50 too.

So, Angie, by "spunk it up," I assume you mean I shouldn't wear a black top, black stockings and black shoes with it? hee hee...I guess I have a homework assignment.

And, ladies, I appreciate your input. I'm going to steer away from the purple shiny ruffles.

I would love that as a suit! Not a fan of the purple ruffles, but if it's your thing embrace it. I have Blue Essence skinny jeans (very stretchy but don't stretch out) and definitely sized down. I'm usually a 10 or 12 and the 8 is perfect on me. Not sure if the cords have the same styling.

A. Would This Be Print Overkill?

Nordstrom's has a pencil skirt in its sale section that is made from what appears to be the same fabric as a jacket I own. The fiber content is the same and the prints appear identical; however the skirt is by Halogen and the jacket by Sandro.

My question is, would I be committing a fashion crime by wearing the two together?

#1 is a picture of the jacket on my dress form (along with some jeans I'm sewing).

#2 is a picture of the skirt (only $34!)

B. Should I Size Down for Blue Essence Jeans?

See Picture #3 (I didn't realize they were cords, which kind of kills it for me, but I'm also considering B.E. regular jeans)

C. Is this jacket Girly Overkill?

See picture #4. I have a weakness for purple and ruffles.
