Angie, you are too sweet and making me blush... :D. Of course I trust you! I'll bite and order in the green see what happens. Do you think i need to size up (solid colors show bulges more?)? Or do you think i should stay with this striped version as is?

Cloud 9, I dunno -- I have been on the fence about that dress as well, and without trying it on, I concluded that I may have too much hips and backside to pull off the effortless draped look -- it's my dilemma with all shifts & shirt dress types. I'm also picky with the forced ruching. I've tried on so many BR dresses this season with those stomach ruches, and my conclusion is that if all the ruches are going to be stretched out anyway, it looks like an odd placed permanent wrinkle, and I'm just better off in a Gemma wrap or one of their side faux wrap.

Cloud, one last thing. Your bottom looks absolutely DELISH in that frock. Flattering, yet not indecent. The dress creates a magical shape to my eye. You know I would tell you if the dress was not a good fit.

Donnat, high five. You see what I see. Thanks for chiming in.

The dress looks AMAZING from all angles. You have a gorgeous figure. (You are not at all pear shaped, Cloud).

But you have to be happy wearing it. You were right to leave it behind if it made you feel less than fab.

Don't know what I was thinking when I originally said Apple shape. I'M trending pear now.

So I went to BR as they have the striped version. Only medium available. The results are not good. As I feared I really don't like the rear view. The fabric contours my midsection and rear perfectly which made me very body conscious. Overall I felt very giggly. Size up may help but would be too big for the upper half. I have to say though the fabric is super comfy. Lightweight that you don't even feel it when wearing (probably why I feel so body con).
Thanks to all that chimed in. Trying it on gave me more insight.

Thanks for the validation, Shiny. It's a magical dress that kind of moulds to all body types. So far, everyone has loved that dress on - me included. It would have been mine if I liked the colour options.

I'm an apple + inverted triangle, and this dress worked for me. The ruching hides tummy bulges, provided you don't get the striped version. I did like it better pulled down (so it's more midi length) rather than scrunched up (too much additional fabric around the waist). However bear in mind that as an inverted triangle I don't have much for hips/thighs/rear -- in fact I like to add ruching there to give me the illusion of more curves than I've got.

For an inverted triangle with squishy arms and chestiness, the top part & sleeves are very flattering.

May I also suggest my all-time favorite dress? Ralph Lauren cowl neck jersey dress:

http://www.lyst.com/clothing/l.....l-peacock/

Comes in a wide array of colors (just google and you'll see), with or without sleeves. The ruching is high on the waist - great for short waisted gals. This dress is masterful for apple shapes. What's more the jersey is high quality and self-lined, smoothing nicely over any bumps and bulges, without clinginess.

Try the dress, Cloud 9. It looks better on my clients than on the models. The ruching can be quite forgiving on the mid-section.

(The dress is at BR - not Nordies).

I like that dress, and some shirrings can hide a lot of sins, but I usually pay attention to size up for a looser fit when feelin' the apple self:-)

If you don't think the colors available are flattering or what you want, move on. As to the fit, it sounds like it is forgiving but needs to be tried on to know.

I really like Angie's post on the BR dress. I really want to order it. However, in examine the picture in detail, I noticed it doesn't look too flattering on the bottom half, especially back view. Even on this skinny model it looks as if the back bottom is somewhat tight.

Also, I have a high but short waist, and with quite a bit tummy giggle and a big behind, an apple shape in the making. I'm afraid the shirring will ride up to my waist, and leaves the hip/tummy area more tight and highlighted.

Too bad they don't have this at my local Nordstrom for me to try. I don't like to order unless I feel I have a decent chance of Sucess. Is this a legit concern this dress is not for my shape, or I am wanting someone to talk me out of it ? Besides I am really looking for a raspberry/purple family color. What say you, oh wise YLF?

ETA: I meant a pear shape, not Apple. Lol. See my latest update below.
