It depends on the fabric. Mostly, my experience positive, using methods others above described. (Front loading machine, no-heat, gentle/hand wash cycle, mesh bag, gentle detergent, flat or hang dry,

Even with these precautions, I've had rayon shrink in length. Mr Maximal is even more careful about laundry than I am, and hangs everything except bed linens, but we have different opinions wrt the washer settings "cold" and "no heat."

I love nice pajamas, and prefer they be machine washable. Seems the only way to get that these days is to have them made. Are there user reviews of this set available? They're very pretty!

I wash rayon in the machine and hang to dry. My issue with rayon PJs (which seem to be more common lately) is that I need PJs to be basic, zero-effort clothes that I can put in the dryer. Certainly my husband would never remember that certain PJs need to be hung to dry - forget it.

I would think a short cycle (40 mins), low temp (30degrees) and short spin would be fine. I agree with a ginger - labels are too cautious.

When the rayon is wet it is going to feel strange, stiff; but it will feel soft and normal when dry.
I do lots of hand washing but do rayon on the gentle or hand wash cycle and hang to air dry. If in doubt, you might wash the garment in a mesh bag.

Just want to add that when washing delicate items, I usually use a detergent for (silk &) wool.

I'm starting to become extremely irked at garment manufacturers who use that label. Very, very few materials need literal hand wash treatment. Why not just specify delicate cycle? It sounds to me like laziness. They don't want to be responsible for any quality issues down the road, so they specify the most careful handling and too bad to any consumer who doesn't follow the letter of it. Either that, or they are not bothering to pre-wash and otherwise properly treat their material before construction. (Or they're simply using the wrong material. Seriously, hand washing pajamas? And one of rayon's biggest selling points used to be that it was a washable silk equivalent.)

I think you can machine wash it. Have never handwashed any rayon items (and I have had many). Just use a "gentle cycle".

At present, I have access to a machine which has a hand wash programme (at 30°C). I use that programme for all delicate items, including some which are labelled "dry clean only". So far, all clothes have come out fine. And I let them air dry indoors.
