Helena--it probably is an easy fix, I will check, thanks.
Lise--I think just the seam. I don't know what you mean by "next to the seam," unless you mean a second row of stitches. This would be an easy fix for someone with a sewing machine, but I wouldn't be able to do it neatly with hand sewing. Thanks.
Robin--thanks, I don't think it has torn.
Janet--yes, I am surprised, it could just be shoddy work. I will probably take them in, thanks.
LJP--It is the center back seam. They felt roomy, and I even had to tailor the waist, so I don't think that's it. And I would repair them myself, but don't want evidence of hand sewing.
Angie--thanks.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at - is this the centre back seam? It would take 2 minutes to repair . It's usually a sign that the pant is too tight - sorry to say.

It looks like a simple fix as long as the fabric is not torn — more likely substandard stitching, which I’m seeing a lot lately. Manufacturers cutting corners, sigh. I think if you like them and are missing them now that the waist alteration is done, it’s worth the repair.

Unless the fabric itself has torn, this should be an easy fix.

Is it just the seam that has torn apart, or is it next to the seam? Either way looks like an easy fix to me, maybe even by hand unless I am missing something else?

Not an expert on sewing by any stretch, but I think it's always worth getting a quote if it's an item you like! I had a sweater do the same, it just unraveled at one of the seams ... It's weird but it happens and I do think it's an easy fix for them to repair and reinforce the ends of the original seams so that it doesn't happen again.

I got these pants from Calvin Klein in September, and just wore a few times, normal wear and tear, and this happened.

After going through the refund process, I have a CK credit of $40 to buy some new ones. However, I am wondering if it would be worth it to take these to a tailor and net the difference. Fixing/replacing a seam does not seem like a hard job.

For reference, the tailor near me did a pants hem on some brown pants, and a waist bringing-in on these pants, each for $25. So I don't know how much this seam fix could cost.

Of course, another reason to keep these pants is that I did already invest that $25 in the waist. I did ask CK for a credit on that part, but they did not give it to me.

(And $40 is fair for at least the pants and shipping--I got them on big Labor Day sale.)
