Angie, excellent memory! That is exactly the other coat I weighed against the raincoat for this. I wasn’t sure about the navy coat with black boots/pattern on skirt though.

I like the skirt for you!

I like it best in #5 and #6. Try the sweater in #5 with the combat boots, and just a long coat over the top. Your navy one from long ago, I think? And maybe your lace hosiery too.

Synne, thanks for popping by. Interesting point that the three different presentations of flowers are different enough that the overriding theme is hard to see/doesn’t pull them together. “Full Nina Hagen” makes me laugh. It’s a great descriptor of what I do not want to do. Over on CarolS’ thread with the lilac pants, Zaeobi just used the phrase “classy playfulness”. That’s where I'd like to go. I know I’ve done my maximalism right when minimalists enjoy the looks. Thanks for the compliment on the bod. Working out is good for my mental health.

CarolS, thanks for diving in. Cool idea to try other black-and-white florals with the skirt; maybe the theme will come through better that way. I do indeed have red boots. I shall have to give them a go with the skirt and the plaid jacket. I like the idea of adding brown to the mix. Black and brown/cognac is one of those combos I think of as rich and fancy.

Brooklyn, oh, I like that idea to put a belt around the vest—for here and in other outfits.

Sunflower, thanks for commenting. I will try the raspberry tights and heat tech top with the skirt, might need a topper too. Maybe the suede jacket.

Rachylou, “lonely”! We can’t have that.

Rachylou, Irina, CarolS, Suntiger, thanks for your thoughts for my friend.

Irina, you make volume on volume look so easy!

Kellygirl, Zaeobi, Cat2, Suntiger, truth be told, the simple black sweater is likely to be the fallback for how I wear the skirt.

It’s a gorgeous skirt. Definitely a keeper.

I enjoy your experimentation! I’d like to see the floral vest pulled together more (so the front parts overlap and it sits more like a wrap top/jacket). Then a black belt around it. I think reigning in the volume of the top would make it work better with the skirt. I like the pattern mix.

And the black lace up boots are fab.

Re the skirt… oh dear. ‘Burned.’ Strong words. I think the key to this skirt is pale tops. You’re right, the white comes on strong. I like it with your pale coat tho: makes the white less ‘lonely.’

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's hard to be far away when you'd like to be close by. I hope treatment goes well for him.

I really like this skirt -- especially with the high lace up boots. I find the shape of this vest overwhelming with the skirt, though. I think a jean jacket or short cardigan would be great.

I would be curious to see this skirt with the black and white floral top from your last post, and/or the floral tights.

I know the intent of this experiment was to get away from plaid, but I do think one of your plaid bomber jackets would be great with it for a future outing. I thought I saw you in red boots somewhere but can't find a post that confirms that, so pls forgive if I am wrong. Red boots would look great if you've got em.

Might be a bit subdued for you, but I could picture throwing that brown suede jacket from a recent post with this -- with the floral boots or your brown shoes. Over a plain black top would be great, but for a more maximal look, a B&w patterned top. Or B & W plus a colour would be fun. A very small or a very large pattern.

I think this is a piece you can have a lot of fun with.

I would be interested to see one of your looks with "too much going on" actually. I am rooting for you to go full Nina Hagen!

As for florals, maybe I am cognitively behind, but I don't see any...? Your fab boots scream metallic. The skirt awesome graphic black and white. The cardi festive 90s retro arts and crafts. But I wouldn't think that the florals somehow connects them.. anyway, GOSH how great you look in short skirts and tank tops! Your swimming is really paying off.

I would skip the vest, it’s shape competes with the skirt. Either just the black sweater or it or a similar top or sweater tucked layered under a short jacket.

Mary Beth, thanks for the link. Just scrolling through her page, I see so many happy colors. And thrifting! She has a whole bunch of videos on thrifting. Looking forward to watching some over the next few days.

Thanks Bijou, my sister in happy colors. McQueen with flowers instead of skulls My son is indeed trying to be funny with his comment. It’s a reference to this moment (which I never liked) https://youtu.be/ltpqPd3t5V0

Not to bring anyone else down, but I’m in need of happy colors today. My friend has just informed me that he has prostate cancer. The survival rate is extremely good (97.5-100%) when it’s caught & operated on so soon, but he seems convinced he’s gonna die. And of course the effects of that surgery are no fun. Should’ve visited him in October when I had the chance.

I think this skirt is really cute! I found myself looking less at the proportions, and more at the colors - I love the crisp white, and the bright blue, and the tonal black in #5, because they're allowing the skirt to pop. The color I didn't like against the skirt, is the puffer in #3, because it's muted, and it's damping down the visual impact of the skirt for me. GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Let me introduce you to Elise Buch and her YouTube channel. She mixes happy colors and prints like nothing and nobody I've ever seen.

So, I think the skirt has a skater shape, and would pair it with less volume on top, like a short jean jacket, and then put on your new rain coat.

To get dressed yesterday, I did a quick workshop with a skirt I recently sized into. It isn’t really new; I got it the same time as the b/w sunburst one. It’s got good twirl, but even just standing still, the pleats and thick material make it stand out from my body. After two weeks of double plaid, I wanted to try multiple florals. TL/DR 3x florals works, but not with a coat. I think I made a volume-over-volume, but you tell me.

The white is much more prominent in pix than I expected; I want to try it sometime with all-white and the metallic boots. For Christmas Day in my parents’ very warm house, I’ll probably wear it with the red sweater & red sweater tights.

But those looks are for later. Right now, I wanted to play with the floral patterns of the skirt and cape, and the red sleeves were too much, so I switched to black. As much as I like the triple floral look with the metallic boots, once I put the raincoat on (the red puffer is too short for the cape), there was too much going on, so I went with black boots to ground the outfit and simplify the leg line. That’s right: knee-high lace-up boots with buckles on top and lug soles to simplify things. If/when I get the boots—black or brown, similar to LaPed’s Thursdays and Runcarla’s black and red pairs—that are on my list, I think they’d work best. The end result was a lot of volume, between the skirt and the cape. but I thought it came together pretty well.

The bike pic was taken by an American I’d just heard on his phone. I asked him to take a pic of me being a good little Berliner with my bike. He didn’t seem to mind.

Your analysis please. Is my son right that the skirt should be burned? What do you think of these looks? Do you have any other suggestions for it? Thanks for playing!
