Hi Anne!

Playing with items in our closet always teaches us, even when we don't get exactly the outfits we want out of it!

I like 2 and 5 of this batch, and I liked it with the skinnies tucked into boots in your first go-round.

I think the sweater may be worth keeping until you have a little more in your closet to replace it --- and I think it works for "work" with the black skirts.

I like the sweater, too, but the happiness factor is huge, and only you can say what matters most to you! Feel free to be the "boss of your clothes." I think it was Claire who first used that term!

Hi Anne.
Great to see that 'Your Skirt' now is getting some wear :)
I am surprised at the versatility of this top really, considering the initial uncertainty.
I still think it works best with jeans or maybe black pants with a straight cut, but don't mind it at all with the skirts.
Suz' idea re. tucking might be all that is required to lift your happiness factor too.

Thanks for your detailed input!

Vix you're right that I have a small and carefully thought out purchase - but I don't think this was. This was "oh no winter is half over and I haven't bought a casual sweater yet and I like colour blocking and it is on sale online" I had a sinking feeling as soon as I tried it on - but then Angie liked it.

My weight has been up and down, BTW and I appreciate your words. I am only a pound or so over the top of my range and it mostly only bothers me when I suddenly notice it in photos (or when the odd item is a bit tight just under the belly button)

Bottom line with this top really, is that although I may wear some of the suggestions that got approvals with skirts from time to time I really bought it to wear with jeans. And from both my last thread and this one I am getting very mixed reviews on how suitable it is. I don't think anyone including me liked it with the bootcuts (which I hardly wear these days anyway) but some liked it with skinnies and some didn't.

Would love to hear more of you weigh in!

Hi Anne --

So frustrating when clothes are problematic, right? Definitely the experimentation gets us closer to solutions, though!

Of this batch I really only like it with the darker bottom and Lyn's purple/black skirt (#4) -- and skipping down the the added photo of that skirt with the semi-tuck I think that's the best! The mix of pattern is fun and unexpected but the echoed colors make it very harmonious to me.

Do you think semi-tucking with the black skirt in #5 is worth a go?

FWIW in other recent outfit photos I actually thought you'd *lost* weight and thought, "oh, the new job and life changes must have her running around tons!"

But you know how outfit items + proportions can make us look so many different ways. I know you have a small closet and this sweater was a carefully thought out purchase, but if it's making you feel bad about yourself I hate it on your behalf. Anyone local who might want to buy it from you?

I think the only one it works in is the last - which is fantastic. I think the long length of leg showcased in the skinnies is what does it. It's a long, loose top - I think it truncates the skirts and the skirts are not, well, tight enough to balance the looseness of the top. A more clingy, tube skirt might be a better bet on the skirt front.

I'd wear a big top like that with skinnies. (You say there's a Pic 8 with waxed skinnies, but I only see 7 photos.) Or perhaps a long form fitting maxi skirt or dress (and by long I mean to the ankles, not the knees). Or how about with fun leggings for lounge wear?

I'm just going to echo what Suz said - she said it so perfectly! I love the semi-tuck and think it will work wonderfully with this top.

Yes! That's it! If it will stay, I guarantee this is a good look -- as long as the sweater has enough "fluidity" or drape to the fabric. It will adjust your proportions without the necessity for an actual tuck. It will make you look more long-legged. It also has the magic ability to give curves to those who need them while softening exaggerated curves on those who are sensitive about their hips!

Plus, what I really find exciting about this method is that it allows you to adjust for every bottom, depending on the proportions. You might find with a midi skirt you need it adjusted to x height. Then with a knee length skirt it could go to another height. It's really clever.

Anne, this is a great styling exercise! Good for you for taking the time to do it. And it looks as if you are having some lovely weather. Like your little accessory in #6!

As to the looks -- I think it works quite well in #1. In #2 I like it with the red, but don't think the proportions here are the best. If the skirt is shorter and straighter than the dress, it might work better than it does here. As a colour combo this is fun and unexpected and I enjoy it.

It is tough to say if it would work with the tube skirt; I think you might need different styling -- as in lighter footwear.

Potential with Lyn's skirt is really strong. The black band at the bottom ties it in.

Can you faux semi tuck with the skirts? What I do is just sort of fold the top under in the middle and rest it on the waistband and/or a belt that I put on. Some fabrics stay put on their own amazingly well (without a belt) but that might be because of my rectangular tendencies -- I don't know.

I think the volume is a bit overwhelming with bootcuts, even semi-tucked, but it may look a bit different in person. I definitely think a semi-tuck can help you with proportions and it's totally worth experimenting with!

This is a continuation from this thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....k-this-top

As I received lots of suggestions to try, particularly from Lantana, who wrote

"Anne I have had a quick browse of your recents and suggest you have a go at pairing this top with the shirt dress, red dress, red skirt, "Lyn's" skirt, the striped tube and the waxed skinnies"

soo

1 Red dress (red skirt is on the mending pile)

2 Shirt dress (a different dress as the shirt dress was in the wash, but very similar

3 Tube skirt

4 Lyn's skirt

5 Black skirt (acting on several suggestions to try dark bottoms)

6 semi tuck with bootcuts (yes my belt is sticking out) I just put this in on my own initiative

8 waxed skinnies

I'd love to hear your feedback. I am extremely ambivalent about this top, but the tags are are off, so I am trying to make a go of it.

I really felt chubby looking at these photos. Despite my recent weight gain, I do still have a waist, but this obscures it completely.
