Ha! I used to work in HR. Two reasons I can think of for a memo that seems redundant:

1) Somebody or somebodies need to read the memo again.

2) Somebody higher up** from your HR person, is getting all 'busy' in HR's business and generally making a nuisance of themselves. (**most common reason)

I think your dress code sounds pretty good, you have room to play with looks, but also be comfortable!

Your HR manager sounds like my husband lol - although he works in tech, he's been finding it difficult to adjust back to wearing full length pants in the office again. He would even wear cargo shorts in the lab, which I'm pretty sure is a health hazard!

Compromise: I bought him some of those lightweight zip-off cargo trousers that convert into shorts. He wasn't supposed to actually wear them to work, but baby steps lol... hopefully your HR adopts a similar approach, to avoid the inevitable 'basketball shorts revolt' from the WFH loungewear crowd lol.

That's great news! How funny about your HR manager--I can't imagine wearing that to work even in casual mode. Sometimes the handbook is more of a guideline. We haven't had a dress code in a long time but I think everyone currently working in the office demonstrates common sense about what is or isn't appropriate.

I'm excited for you and looking forward to more WIWs :)

Bijou- there is a specific dresscode is our employee handbook, which was just resent to all staff by HR. It specifies jeans only on specified days (casual Friday maybe?) and no logo tees. Our HR manager wears basketball shorts, sneakers, a logo tee and a ball cap every day- so I don't know how serious to take that yet lol

This sounds like it will suit you perfectly. Most HR departments can give you an outline of the acceptable garments, fabrication and hem lengths etc. which may be useful to have so you get a rough indication of how the dress code will change once you are back in the office.

My workplace is considered essential (homeless services), but since the pandemic things have changed a lot- including half time wfh for many of us, and cutting back to only essential programming and services. As of July 1st, we are back to our full program, including being on site fulltime. It also means, according to HR- being back to our business casual dresscode. I started this job during the pandemic, so I have only known the dress to be casual, and wasn't aware it was a relaxed dresscode they were operating under. I always feel like I am more dressed up than most of my coworkers, even though I still dress pretty casually. I hope people do start dressing up a bit more. I feel like it's just more professional, but also it will alllow me to dress up as much as I want to
