That's the only explanation I can think of. When the student finally bests the teacher… </p> <p>My Scrabble board game is the one we played when I was growing up. It was our family game, along with Michigan Poker. The box is tattered and taped together, but the pieces and board are still in good shape. In the box are pages of scores from games that I look back at fondly. I can tell from the names when these games were played (and from my childish handwriting circa 1974). My dad used to sit out a game but then lurk behind each of us, reaching over to move tiles around to give us hints on what word would work. Hard to believe it’s been over 30 years since those days. Word games were the first things I could ever feel that way about with my son. When he was in 4th grade, I told him I needed just a minute to figure out a wwf move with a friend. It was his first time seeing the game. He leaned over my shoulder and nailed it on his first try. We started playing each other. For a little while I had half a chance and could just be proud of my little wordster, but eventually I wanted to win. I still do.</p> <p>ETA my son taught me about playing defense in wwf. I never would’ve thought of it. Now I tried his method on one of the worldes today, got it in 3. The other one, with my method, took me 5.
