I was just going to echo Queenie, if your child(ren) are young I would try a straight pencil skirt with a vent to ensure enough mobility.

If you are comfortable, go for it. You can always make it more casual with a denim jacket or shirt or graphic tee under a cardi.

a pencil skirt does seem a bit formal for MOTG, not to mention the mobility factor. Do you feel that you could easily perfom all your mommy tasks with a pencil skirt on?

I think it just depends on your preferences. I tend to dress up more (even on casual days) than most people, so I do not consider a pencil skirt dressy at all. I'm wearing a strawberry colored tweed jacket today. It's a great update on a very formal/old fashioned fabric.

While cobalt or fuchsia sound fun, I'd think that a neutral like gray, especially in a skirt, would give you more wear and more options. If a pencil shape seems too formal, how about an a-line with some fun seaming or drape?

I've been thinking of making myself a pencil skirt and there's a great sale on wool suiting - it'd only cost me $4 (plus shipping) to make a nice wool skirt - but is it too dressy for daily wear for a stay at home mom, or would a fun color like cobalt or fuschia make it work? (the fuschia is lambswool flannel suiting and the cobalt is boucle suiting, but it's dry clean only so I'd be more likely to do the fuschia).
