It's an intriguing concept, but the devil is in the details. If they fit well, stay put, actually do what you want, they could be great. I would be wary of nylon and its lack of breathability. Great idea of checking them out in person.

I also like Mrs. E's idea of making your own, but I question if elastics across the shoulders would work. It seems to me that they would make a visible line under clothing. The shrug concept seems more viable.

I agree that they are not a layer that'd keep you *warm*. It is made of nylon which is a fairly cold materal, but I think for it might work anyway.

I like the Wingz idea better, especially as I can see them working with something like a maxi dress if you want to cover your arms a bit but don't want to wear a cardigan. You'd have to be mindful of how all the straps played together, of course. They might not look so hot in real life.

harmonica - no I haven't tried them, and I agree with you about the creasing. I'm a person who feels warm most of the time, so they appeal to me as giving arm coverage under something sleeveless without having to have a whole extra layer over my body, which would make me feel much too warm!

Rachy, armwarmers are more or less what I meant when I said I wear fingerless gloves with my 3/4 sleeve coats. I saw a beautiful Eileen Fisher ad featuring these striped ones, and am planning on knitting myself some this fall.

I am going to answer the original question. No, no, no, no. I would never wear these. I don't know why. They seem too gimmicky. I know sleeves originally laces to tops back in Ye Olde Renaissance days and were separate parts, but I am not loving this idea. Also, the name is uck.

Great questions and comment Shiny!

I live in Scandinavia with 4 seasons and a chilly/cold/very cold autumn, winter and spring. Summer is short, sometimes warm (though seldom *hot*) and often chilly.

Yes, I layer and layer and layer each season. Usually, I go for wool/silk cami, top, wool cardi, blazer and outerwear in winter. Lots of layers I love it for comfort and functionality and it give a slight boho vibe which I like. I am a fan of structured jackets, but sometimes I like a litte sleeve or 3/4 sleeve, even under the cardis and jackets I'm already wearing (esp in the cooler / cold months). These attachable sleeves might be an additional layer (in addition to 2 layers of wool, top and jacket), especially when I want a slightly dressier look but still need to layer when I'm out of the building. And of course for the days that are just requiring one layer + blazer, but no bare arms.

Harmonica, I wanted to add that I live in a 4-season climate and about 80% of my tops and blouses are sleeveless. I prefer them precisely because they can be layered and span any season, even the shortest one for us (summer). In the winter I layer cami underneath, sweater and/or cute jacket over top, then wool coat. (Yes I often wear a cardigan under a jacket/blazer under a wool coat).

I am curious, I haven't followed you closely enough to know your wardrobe and style. Does this idea appeal to you because you are not a fan of structured jackets?

It's an interesting concept but my initial reaction was, "oh... tights for your arms." There's something a bit too reminiscent of tights for me. I prefer the Wingz concept -- actual sleeves rather than hosiery for your arms. Also I question how much warmth these would add to your arms. Personally I think a cardigan or a jacket would provide more warmth.

Also, whenever I've layered a long sleeve, scooped neck top under a sheath dress, I've always felt it looks weird without a collar. That may be my own personal weirdness.

Ok - now I really, really have to try these and see what they are IRL. You've got me even more intrigued with the sleeves.

I would probably fail to wear them, because it seems a bit of a fuss to get them on. I have all convertible bras and always leave the straps off, I'm so lazy.

On the other hand, they're very clever. If I weren't so lazy, I'd have a lot of use for them. I like having covered arms under the A/C. I could wear a lot more of my clothing to work.

i go back and forth on these. I could use the warmth and coverage with some of my tops, but then some of these sleeves (esp. some of the lacy ones) look a bit 'off' to my eye, like 'hey guess what my numero uno priority is covering up my arms everyone!!! just in case you hadn't noticed :)'

i'm guessing that the key is that they be un-fussy in looks and in wear. I prefer the plainer sleeves myself. If a pair you want doesn't come with the piece across the back it's be a snap to attach a bit of elastic. Two straps would be ideal for comfort i'm thinking - one at the top of the back (just below shoulders) and one at the level of the underarm. Of course these would be scandalously easy to make yourself, just copy some long-sleeved tee sleeves you like, attach some elastic and there you go!

Though in the end i think it all comes down to how the 'intersection' comes across between armhole and wondersleeve top..........i could see that getting truly weird.

Let us know if you get some! i am very curious and highly tempted!! steph

I wish the site would elaborate exactly how they work. I agree that it looks like they have fabric across the shoulders, making it more of a long-sleeved shrug. Regardless, if they actually looked the way they did in the photographs, I think this is a fantastic idea! It really could transform a plain dress into something new, or it could change the look for travel, or it could make a sleeveless pieces more appropriate for certain occasions.

I believe from the photograph on the about page there is a piece of the lace that goes around back behind the sleeves, sort of like a longsleeved shrug.

ETA: Although some of them look like they do have a little strap that snaps over bra strap.

I'll try them before ordering. Important point about pulling of bra strap. my sloping shoulders don't always keep the bra straps in place and extra pulling is really not what I need

Interesting. I think it's a great idea IF it's comfy. I would be worried about the extra weight pulling down my bra strap, but it depends on how it's attached, I guess. Would you be able to try them on before ordering?

Sometimes when it is cold and I want to wear my silly, impractical 3/4 sleeve coats, I wear long handknit gauntlets (like fingerless gloves) over my forearms, which is kind of the same idea, only for outerwear. It would be nice if they attached to something so they wouldn't keep slipping down!

I'll keep you updated, Ramya I'm going to Tromsø in a few weeks time and they have a store there were they sell Wondersleeves. I have some time in between work stuff, so I want to see them IRL before buying.

That's a real cool idea... If you end up buying and it works do let me know... Would give a lease of life to all my sleeveless tops

Yes, that's true... the laces are more dressy. Actually I would prefer a very simple one with no pattern, but I don't think that is available. I can see velvet on your arms, would look very nice I think
