Interesting. I haven't read the responses thoroughly but have skimmed them. I would say that I don't have a unified style in that I crave variety in my wardrobe but simplicity (and minimalism) pretty much everywhere else. I don't do a lot of interior decorating, I don't have any fancy furniture, etc. The fewer things I can buy (other than clothes), the happier I am. However, the things that I do buy are of the best quality that I can afford, just like my clothes. I don't buy cheap stuff but buy something that will last. I usually buy traditional things because I know I will keep them a long time (furniture especially), and I find that traditional things become less tiresome for me over time.

If we're talking a general approach to areas in life such as work, study, chores, my "style" could be described as relaxed and bordering on complacent, punctuated by brief periods of frenetic energy. :-)

If we mean more material things, I think I have style when it comes to the space I live in. People comment a lot on our house, and the stuff in our house.

Are there more questions like these?

My home has style and if you knew me and saw my home, you'd say it looks like me. It's very traditional, good quality furniture, lots of accessories but they have been accumulated over the years and are on display because of their beauty, utility or sentimental reasons. I even have the same color palette as my clothes, white walls, dark furniture, lots of jewel tones in fabrics. Just like my wardrobe.

I work in retail and the thing I like best about my career is working on the floor, merchandising. I've worked in all kinds of stores, high end to discount, and to me there is nothing more satisfying than working with the merch, pulling it together and making a statement. I don't know if it's a knack or a talent, but I've worked with some people who just get it and others who will never get it. It's partly an organizational thing and partly an artistic thing. Plus you need to know what will make something sell.

Probably more than you care to know! But it is an art and a science.

Do you have style in any areas of your life beside fashion? Do you have a unified way of approaching your life, work, relationships, finances, chores, etc? Please explain.

Hmm. Yeah. Life... One of those cases where I have a style, but maybe not to the best effect. Lol. My life is at one with my fashion sense... quirky warrior waif... country punk... out of step, a little feistier than is wise, contradictory - moralistic and yet nihilistic... in the area of chores, anyways. Lol. I have a lot of cans waiting to be crushed so I can recycle...

I think I have rotating enthusiasms. I put a lot of energy into decorating and equipping my home when we first moved in, but not a lot after that although everything in my home was carefully chosen, it's just a little worn out and kitten scratched now. I also spent several years very focused on organic gardening. I'm an artist and have a distinct style to my work, people can instantly recognize it as mine for the most part. I also have ingrained habits and rituals with regard to shopping, eating, cooking or cleaning and really dislike any clutter around me. Like Rachy discussed in the other thread, I have opinions and preferences about almost anything aesthetic or cultural, I very rarely don't know what I like but usually want to learn more and am willing to reverse my stands on things too.

But there are other areas where I don't focus my attention or have a unified system --- gadgets: I'm way behind the times, my laptop folders are a mess, my car is an afterthought at best, although usually clean and empty. Finances, I have workable systems, but am always a little behind the curve in updating my information. Life and relationships --- at times I feel like I'm in a groove and in alignment with the universe, at times I'm kind of just bumbling along in hopes that something clicks.

Like Niki, I've put a lot of energy into my home environments -- house, garden plus rental cabin and garden design small businesses. Children and husband too for that matter, well turned out & cared for, and domestic pursuits like foods cooked from scratch and general organizational strategies. And I think I lost myself somewhere in the shuffle. There's a part in 'Women in Clothes' where one of the respondents talks about trying to put together a garden & realizes all she's ever really looked at are clothes... I'm her opposite! I've spent a lot of time looking at everything BUT clothes... hahaha.

That being said, I am an orderly person by nature and my wardrobe management reflects that. I would never be that person who can't stuff her arm into her own wardrobe, even with the money and time to acquire whatever I wanted. Things would always hang by category, then color. The hangers would always match. Unworn, unwanted items would be purged on the same schedule. Feeling surrounded by crap literally makes my skin crawl. I like open, spare spaces. I like minimal but intentional decoration.

So I would say yes, I do and it's pretty consistent provided I'm paying attention.

Good question. I think of myself as artistic. I hope this is reflected in our home.....it is the place we live so I want to be surrounded by beauty. I want my table to be lovely when guests come to dinner and our yard to sparkle in the spring. So yes, I hope I have style in every area of my life.

except my car... basic black! Well it does look good with most outfits!

This is a great topic. I am pretty well obsessed with interior design and can confidently say that my home is way more stylish than I am. Growing up I always wanted to be an interior designer and almost studied interior architecture at university, but a stupid boy got in the way. I ended up moving away with him and studying broadcasting instead, which led to me working in radio news for a few years. Awesome job, but my heart was (still is) in design. But I am nowhere near as confident with clothes.

Interesting question I was pondering just yesterday when I decided to tidy my linen cupboard. Why was I unsure about how to tidy this area- what to K/P when I am so confident about doing the same with my clothes?
Why do I keep a medium closet and crave variety, whilst I have only the bare minimum of sheets and pillow cases?
Other responses will be of great interest to me here
