Go Rosie for going out running!!

I went to an RPM class tonight and knee felt fine. I'm so excited. Next steps are to get back on a real bike, and then to try yoga/jogging. They are the 2 things that really hurt it before! We'll see how that goes next week maybe!

YAY!! Good for you! So glad your knee didn't bother you much - very exciting.

OOOO I have a different one but this looks really cool! Looks like it's only to be used during exercise?

There is this newish product called the Fitbit out here that seems really cool. It's quite small and you wear it all day on your waistband. It measures all your activity fairly accurately. You then can enter your food intake. It is much cheaper than the BodyBug, which is also quite unsightly. http://www.fitbit.com I'm contemplating it because I don't like always having my phone on me.

Ack...I just got back from running - inspired by everyone here - and need to start getting ready for work!!

Is this the one you use by any chance Rosie?

http://www.abvio.com/walkmeter/

Seems pretty cool but I don't really understand why they have a seperate app for walking, running and cycling. That would just make me want all 3 apps which I guess is to their benefit, but really!!! Recording movement is recording movement no matter what activity you are doing!!

I'm pretty pumped right now....went to the gym FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR and did 20mins elliptical, some arm weights and then 15mins cycling. Knee is a bit sore, but not too bad at all. Exercise endorphins are good - I have missed them in the last few weeks!!!!

Tam, I have purchased a pedometer app but haven't really tried it. Reviews mostly say they don't really work that great. Given you just had knee surgery, a running app I like probably isn't the best idea. Fit Builder costs a decent amount of money, but they have so many great workouts.

I'll have to take a look at the other ones. I just sort of reset my phone so all my apps are on the computer.

Rosie what iphone applications do you use? I was wondering what was out there but haven't yet had a chance to look.

I was hoping to find a pedometer of some description, maybe combined with a calorie counter and exercise tracker. What else have you found?

Hi guys,
I am just starting to log my food and stuff. I was working out every morning from Jan till March and then went to Europe and I fell off the wagon. Now the weather is nice(r) and it's lighter out and I can't seem to get motivated again. Weird, huh?

Anyway, about the plateau of chewyspaghetti - I read on sparkpeople that some people have been successful at breaking through by varying their calorie intake. So, if you acceptable range is 1400-1700 then eat only 1400 for several days, then eat 1700 for several days. There are other articles on there as well about how to break a plateau. I can imagine how frustrating that must be (I always get stuck at 140) when you feel like you're doing everything possible and working hard and still nothing seems to budge! My other little suggestion is to ramp up your exercise. Even if you go only for 10 mins get your heartrate up as high as you can so you burn as many calories as possible during that time.

Maybe this week try a new class or something? You inspired me to get back to yoga and I had a wonderful time yesterday!

I'm up 2 pounds. I guess it isn't surprising. I used to have a 40 minute walk to work. Now it's only 15 minutes. I guess I have no choice but to cull calories, which is going to be immensely difficult for me as I think I'm at the lower end of what I can tolerate as it is. I guess I'm not unhealthy or overweight though, so maybe I should just call it quits here. There is no way I can squeeze in more activity. Work and commuting occupies my day from dawn till dusk.

Hi girls,

I'm not of much help or assistance in this discussion but just wanted to say how much I admire you for your weight loss efforts and think to myself that it must be difficult. While I'm not overweight, I don't always treat my body as I should, eating junk and not exercising. I have jumped on the exercise bandwagon before but usually fall off spectacularly, so I really admire you Khris for your persistence. You sound really wise and like you're thinking the process out really well. I think it's admirable that you're not going to settle for second best.

Go girl!

I have considered that, too, Angie. Unfortunately, unless it's something that is completely covered by my medical insurance (which is extremely doubtful) that is not an option either. We just paid off the hospital $900 for dd's last test, both she and I need eye exams and new glasses, and both kids should have braces.
I really need to work on building exercise into my life, and that has always been very difficult for me.

I'm having my own frustrations, having not lost anything this week. I'm thinking that perhaps my sensible, balanced diet didn't mix things up enough for me - it was pretty much the way I'd been eating. I did, however, go to yoga yesterday and it was awesome. I'm getting my exercise on track, just have to figure out what to do with the eating to really lose some pounds. With a long vacation in September and a wedding in November, I would really love to be able to enjoy shopping in Italy and then looking fantastic at the wedding.

Khris, have you mixed things up a bit? Tried changing your exercise routines or eating at all? Trying some new exercise is really good for the body. I'm not sure what kind of eating plan you are following, but is there a way you can mix things up a bit there? I understand what people are saying about maybe you're at a happy weight, yet I also understand you want to get into the normal range. It would be nice, for once, to be in a normal weight range, wouldn't it?!

You're not the first person to say that Tam. I have another 35 pounds to go to my goal weight. I can't be happy with less than 20 more pounds, from a health perspective. I know that BMI and other calculators are not perfect, but I'm not muscular and I don't have a gigantic skeleton so they should give a decent ballpark figure. I'm not shooting for low end of a healthy weight range, or a crazy tiny size, I just want to be healthy. It may not show when I have clothes on, but when I am nude, it's obvious that this is not yet a healthy body.

Khris, out of curiosity how far away do you think you are from your goal range? I know its hard to judge from pictures alone, but I'm thinking you must be not too far away. You're looking amazing. Remember that BMI is just a guideline and does not work across the board for all bodies. Many athletes are classed as obese by this method. Use it as just one of many tools to tell you how your body is doing.

(I posted my own efforts earlier today but on last week's thread - ooops! Here it is again)

My own efforts this week have been dismal. Last week the number on my scales was scary. Yesterday I was down 2kg, but my jeans were not fitting well. Today is TTOM so I'm hoping that's what the havoc was, although the thighs were fitting tight as well as the stomach of the jeans I tried on.

I have been eating badly, and exercising little thanks to my knee and my general laziness. Yesterday I went for a 13km walk though, and the knee feels fine today. I'm going to go to a gym today and find an exercise bike - this will be my first gym visit all year!! I can't let the knee and the cold weather here be a continuing excuse for doing nothing!!! As of next week I'm allowed to get back on my proper bike too - yay! I'm also going to try and start recording my food intake. I do ok in the mornings, but get lazy by the end of the day!!

(Update - I didn't go to the gym at all. Went back to Chadstone and bought the Esprit shirt-dress I posted about last week instead. And yet again I didn't log any calories after miday. Bad tam!!!!)

I've considered that Angie, but that's just not acceptable to me. My BMI is just barely out of the obese range and into overweight, and I am a good 20 pounds away from a healthy weight range (I'm only 5 foot five)- even for a large framed person. It's not because I'm muscular, because I'm not at all.

I agree about a "healthy happy weight." I'm 15 pounds heavier than I was 5 years ago (and at 5'3" that's a lot of weight to add) but also much healthier now. I don't have night sweats anymore, I'm not cold often while others are not, I have more energy, my skin looks better and I no longer miss periods. I may not fit into size 0 and 2's anymore, but it's obvious that my body likes this weight better. Numbers on a scale are just that, being healthy is all that should really matter. Edit-there's also always the chance that you have more muscle than you used too and that's why the scale isn't moving.

I do go through a maintainence period every so often- and like I said I have been maintaining this weight for the last two months.Obviously, I know what maintenance takes. I've always said that whatever I do to loose the weight I will have to continue to do to keep it off. I just looked back through my records and I have only lost 4 pounds since February. That's not even a pound a month. I'm fine with slow weight loss- my goal starting out was less than a pound a week. giving myself 2 years to reach my goal. The fact is, if I don't change things up I won't even make that. It's just been a long, slow process and I want to get to the finish of it. I'm tired of constant change, and I'm not satisfied with my current weight. The weight/size that I am at now is about the weight/size that I was in high school. Everything beyond is sort of unchartered waters, and that mental block has as much to do with it as anything.

I weigh myself every morning (works better for me), but when I'm out of town I'm always a little anxious about what's going on. I was happy to see this morning that while I haven't lost anything in particular, I haven't gained after a weekend of eating potato chips and bratwurst.

I think queenie's right on about occasionally laying down the burden of weight loss and just maintaining for a while. I've probably posted this before, but I go back and read it when I get discouraged: Losing weight slowly - the 2 pound a week myth.

Khris.. have you thought about just working on maintaining for a few months? You've been at this a long time and your body has gone through huge changes. I'm just wondering if allowing yourself a chance to "rest" from the expectation of losing weight might help you relax and then you can jump start your weight loss efforts again after you have wrapped your mind around what it takes to maintain your current weight (continuing to exercise and eat right in the process). I know you are very set on your weight loss goals and I know your first instinct will be "NOOOOO! I HAVE to continue to lose a pound a week!" Just chew on the thought for a while....

As for me... I have been "forgetting" to weigh in and when I stepped on the scale one day last week I gasped. I'm up about 5 pounds from where I really like to be so I have to quit taking eating liberties. And just let me say this... I know that for those who are trying to lose significant amounts of weight, for me to say I'm up 5 pounds is probably laughable and possibly even offensive to you. But 5 pounds a month will add up fast if I don't watch it. I have been heavier than I am now (about 25 pounds) and I know that I will always have to work at maintaining my desired weight and size. I just wanted to say that cuz I can see the eyes rolling

Cheer up, Khris. I hope that everything will be alright. You've achieved so much and you're inspiring others!

Me: ok, I guess. The only thing that bothers me is that my waist and legs are getting smaller way faster than my bust and hips. This is insane Actually, I wrote it in last week's WLS topic, so I don't have much to add.

I'm going to opt out of weighing in this week. I've been really frustrated and stressed out, and I am going to spend this week implementing some changes to my routine. I feel like I hit this weight and I have been ping ponging back and forth a few pounds for months. I looked up my records on Spark people, and saw that it has actually only been 2 months, but it's time to bust through. I have a long way to go and I am going nowhere right now.

How is everyone else doing?
