I have never really "weighed in" on these threads much. I tend to be very private about my weight and my struggles, but I am trying to become more open. Marianna and Michelle, I know exactly what you ladies are talking about. Khris, you are always an inspiration. Cheers to everyone with loose clothes! While we might not all have the same goals, the same challenges or the same methods, losing weight is hard no matter what!

I'm down three pounds this week, but it's not really for positive reason - sore throat stopping eating is not good. This month has been hard for me - I have been sick the majority of it from two different things! I have always been very healthy, but I'm almost 33 now and I am starting to become concerned that I may be getting to the age where my healthy body can't support my weight as well to keep me healthy.

This is the first time I've ever really felt that my weight might be affecting my health, and it is scary! So I'm completely committed to losing all this extra weight!

Still no loss! I'm definitely plateauing just 5 pounds away.

My waist is down to 25". which is frankly far better than I even expected. It's smaller than when I was 5 pounds less. So that I am very happy with. I can feel it in my belts. My ruffle belt fell off today, though thankfully I noticed and rescued it. Kind of bittersweet.

Unfortunately everything just above and just below my short waist is staying the same, so it's not as noticeable as I wish it were, and is kind of causing some fit problems. Also, the discrepancy between my bust and waist is growing larger and larger...it's sort of disturbing. I was hoping to go down a cup size at least.

So I guess the review for this week is mixed.

No weight loss this week, but no weight gain either! Which is quite surprising considering that yesterday was Norwegian Consititution Day, which is a public holiday where everybody celebrate and have ice cream, hot dogs and cake, and there are marching bands and parades in the streets all over the country. Of course I indulged my self with an ice cream and some cake, and roast beef with potato salad for dinner.

I'm planning a new exercize routine, as soon as I get my medication for my allergies - the sudden warm weather have caused everything to bloom, and I'm allergic to pollen.....

Maya, my Club Monaco microchecks are officially too big for me too (yay!) sagging badly at and under the butt even with the tabs tightened as much as they can. Is a good thing this, but I'm bummed because I LOVE these pants and I even paid the tailor $40 to have it let out a bit all over LOL.

Congratulations EVERYONE. Great going, keep it up and all that. But mostly thanks for keeping me motivated and inspired

I need to weigh in when I get home, but my Club Monaco pants are officially too big. Yay. Except that my rescheduled interview is today and I am wearing them :\ I'll have to fiddle with the tabs I guess. My belt also had to be tightened up a lot, even when sitting. All good signs...just wish it wasn't on an interview day!

Dawn, we are practically twins - similiar starting weight, although I can't realistically aim as low as you.
I am not going well. One would have thought my half marathon training might have made a difference, and it did, but as soon as I started "tapering" and ahem, "carbo loading" it all piled on again to the extent that the day of the race I was back up at my starting weight. While I am down a pound or so since then I still have about 3 pounds to go ( I think. I am actually thinking in kg). Self control has been very poor.

Well done to Khris. Commiserations to Michelle and Marianna.

May I join you ladies on these weigh-ins? Currently I weight 8 stone 12 pounds, and I want to go back down to 8 stone 4 pounds. I hope to reach this weight by the end of the summer but most importantly, I want to lose a couple of inches off my waist, stomach and thighs. I know it's not much to lose, and I know it won't be a long term commitment but I would like the routine of a weekly weigh-in.

Wow, hats off to the honesty of all of you. I think everyone on this earth has some sort of struggle, weight is just particularly hard b/c it is so external. I am an emotional eater at times as well.
I was feeling great b/c up to a couple weeks ago I was working out about 5x a week for 90 minutes at a time and it was really showing as I attempted to once and for all get back to pre-kid weight. I have not been able to for almost 2 weeks now and have gotten a little more lax in how I've been eating and I feel myself creeping back towards the extra 5ish pounds I still had. It's just something I feel in my clothes, I don't tend to weigh myself.

So my resolution for this week is to get back to they gym (I have to take my kids and the childcare option at the gym is limited right now so this is going to be challenging) and eat actual meals (stop grazing). I just had a big protein filled salad for a late lunch so I'll only do something light later tonight when hunger pangs strike, if they do.

I'm realizing for me that more and more as I get older it will be a lifetime commitment to eating modestly. I've always benefited from being athletic and having a good metabolism but I'm not as active all the time as I used to be so I need to always adjust my intake accordingly .

My mother is a big women and has always struggled with her weight as we were growing up...interesting Khris said "gobble" I remember my mother gobbling her food down...she was an emotional eater too.

She did lose 60 lbs. and she was telling me "I had the strangest gnawing sensation in my stomach" really I said "what do you think that was"...."hunger" she said she had never let herself get hungry before, she always ate enough to keep her full until the next meal....So you are quite right... the hunger, then eat cycle doesn't always work for emotional eaters.

I just want to give each and every one of you a big hug...you're all doing great, whether currently on or off the wagon, and whether the scale has moved or not. Chin up ladies, and keep on..

I was meticulous about calories last week, which is totally new to me; I've done South Beach before and periods of just general eat-well-and-eat-less-than-you-burn kind of diets, but never anything where I kept track of my caloric intake. I was fascinated to discover that a healthy amount of calories is wayyy less than what I used to eat. I'm thankful that I didn't gain more than I did, with my old eating habits. That being said, I did loosen up a bit over the weekend, didn't keep track as closely and indulged in a small treat. I worked out 5 days last week, and was gratified to see a drop of 2 lbs this morning.

I just keep telling myself: slow and steady...I can do this...

It's not as easy as that for overweight people- especially if you have been that way for a long time. "Hunger" cues have an emotional element for overeaters, and it's something that you need to learn to identify and deal with. As for feeling full- that doesn't happen until you've been eating for 20 minutes or so. Eating more slowly helps, but most overweight people are gobblers because they are not eating out of biological hunger.
Don't get down on yourself Marianna- you are retraining your brain, and it's extremely difficult. We all get to an unhealthy weight because there is a breakdown in our natural system somewhere.

Magda- sometimes it is just better not to. I hope you feel better soon.

Marianna and Michelle- I do understand!
Honestly, I think that tenacity alone has gotten me this far LOL
I do think that weight loss is a different game when you have such a large goal (as opposed to those wanting to loose much less). I feel like your body readjusts every so often. You hit that plateau, and your body sees that as your new "normal". So, now what you were doing to loose weight, has become your maintenance. It's at that time that introducing new exercise, fluctuating your calories/points (eating low one day, and high the next rather than eating the exact same amount every day), and experimenting with new recipes becomes important. It's also at these times that I start to take notice of how clothes fit more. Even thought I've been stuck at this weight for a while, clothes are fitting differently- which means that there is change occurring even if it's not on the scale. I can assume that my Yoga/Pilates is building muscle, and once I get to the point where the amount of muscle that I have built changes the way my body burns calories I will see the scale change, too.
You're doing great, ladies!

I'm so desappoited this month, I have eaten well, exercising 5 times a week and I haven't lost a single pound during the entire month... :(
I'm stucked :(

My trainer says that it's normal, the worst thing we can do is give up, I have to keep up and results will appear later but it's so desappoiting!!

More confessions -- Marianna and I have been in the same boat, and we both planned to come clean to the thread today. I, too, have fallen off the wagon to some degree, though I don't actually know if I've gained much. The fact that I fit into a smaller dress size last week signals that I'm likely stuck at the same plateau where I've been residing since freaking mid march. I can't justify the lapse all that well, other than to say that my head hasn't been a fun place to be of late and I let my routine slide. By and large I made reasonable choices, but I definitely let things go sometimes too. I couldn't possibly agree more with Marianna -- weight loss is a genuine battle for some of us, and sadly common sense is not an effective weapon in that fight. It helps, certainly, but it's not enough. I don't know why I relapse, nor do I fully understand how I went from being a size 8 at age 18 to looking the way I do now. I do have motivation to change, and I've proven to myself that I can make progress, but I know that guilt is often my downfall. One slipup and my conscience swings into overdrive, and that compounds any other emotional business that may be going on. I even feel bad about leaning too heavily on you fabulous people at ttimes like that, since I don't want to exhaust your patience or highlight my own lack of self-sufficiency. But I do know that many of you understand, and I hope you don't find this little rant too self-indulgent.

Back to business. I spent the afternoon cooking yesterday, so healthy options abound at my place right now. I'm feeling motivated and I've got a plan to get back on track, and I think that's a decent start. I also have short-term motivation in the form of weddings -- I have four of them to attend this summer, and I am thinking of getting a dress made for them. I want to look my best for these occasions, for my own sake and in honour of my friends at the alter. My lovely but critical parents will also be attending two of these functions, and I must admit that raises the stakes for me too.

Khris, great job on a huge loss this week!! As you can see, I fully understand your frustration, but I know you'll get back. If anything, you've proven that you're tenacious and get things done!

Magda, I totally understand fear of stepping on the scale. Give it a shot if you feel strong enough to do so, but if not, focus on how much you've lost to date and the way your clothes are fitting.

Thanks for hearing me out, ladies!

Confession time. I've been hiding from the WLS check-ins...

You know how some people stop eating/lose weight when they're stressed/going through a lot? I do the opposite. The past month has been super stressful and I have been eating to make myself feel better. It's what I do... and it's a huge reason why I can't lose weight -- I am inconsistent. I will be great for a few months, and then something snaps and I start overeating again.

I haven't stepped on the scale in weeks... I know I have put on some weight. For a couple weeks I didn't really care, but now that my jeans are feeling a bit tight, I care again... and I am going to start "trying" to be healthy again.

I think this is probably very hard for people who don't really struggle with their weight to understand, but weight loss is SO much more than eating less and exercising more. It really is a mental battle.

Congrats! I hope that you'll achieve your new all time low soon. I don't really know if I lost anything, because it's still that time of a month and I feel angry and bloated. No need to make it worse...

The good news is that I am down three pounds form last week. The bad news is that I am still not down to that new all time low- and I am getting really sick of being stuck at this weight. *sigh*
How is everyone else doing?
